  1. Patriots, people who are proud of their country.

Patriotism wasn't invented in america, you know?^^

Nationalismus is more complicated then thinking Nation + alism = ...

Nationalism in its most known form took its roots in Europe, especially Germany and Italy and Yugoslavia area, since they were the last states to unite.

The people wanted an united country, thats why Nationalism, the urge to get a Nation.

And today maybe its Kurds etc. who are nationalistic, or people who demand older frontierlines, like the Russians.

State-driven nationalism comes mosten in form of fascism. Since people voted for those partys out of revanchism.

To set the own country above others and their thoughts about border-disputes.

National-socialism is tricky. Normally the words National aren't bad, and Socialism aren't bad.

Bad is though was the NSDAP made out of it, it was more Socialchauvinism.

Well, since they were the first and only NS-Party worth to talk about, they set how Nationalsocialism is today seen as^^

I actually did think that the concept of patriotism was an American invention.

  2. What I think would be an interesting development is civil buildings that improve the collection of resource buildings, perhaps.  So the respective buildings could increase the production of each resource-related building by, say, 5%?

  3. Well, I really like it.  I think calling it Civ 5.7 or whatever is a bit harsh.  Things are very different.  For one, settling cities is way less dependent upon resources and it's way easier to get "Health" which is the Happiness equivalent.  So there's more of an incentive for you to expand.  Faction abilities are still present, but they aren't all-powerful like they are in Civ V.  It will guide your strategy, but not dictate it.

You're incentivized to spread out your culture, not just focus in one tree until you complete it.  I thought the grid was an interesting idea.

  4. It is a good game and I do recommend it.  It's certainly much, much more than just a retheming.  Civilization is recognizable in the game, but it's very different.  Technology, for one, is quite different.  You also kind of get to customize your starting faction in the beginning.  You get to pick what you come to the planet with and stuff like that.  I thought that was a good touch.

  5. That's so true.

I was joking on the IRC that I got offers from several alliances that went like this:

"HEY! Ashland, we saw that you traded with one of our members!  Did you know that our alliance has the hurpader and the durpader?!  Join us now and you'll have access to all our hurpaders and durpaders!  You just have to go through this application process and there's some paperwork to fill out."

    Eh... Pass.

"Ashland, we invite you to join our alliance; the alliance with more dapadurs an durpahurs than any other!"

    Mm... I don't know...

"Join us, we'll give you 20,000 dollars."

Yup.  You, sir, have a deal.

  6. I don't know.  Honestly, it might grow on me.  I'm just not big on the aliens.  You kind of either have to embrace them or wipe them out... So I invariably choose to wipe them out because !@#$ being a disgusting alien sympathizer.

  7. Really it's a matter of playerbase... the majority of nations in the game are capitalizing on the market but because we only have a little over 1k players in the game we have way more supply then demand can really satisfy. Most of the major alliances and nations in the game have largely gained the stockpiles needed and so they're not buying as much anymore... but more and more people have continued to jump on the market fever leading to the collapse we've had now.

I kinda expected this to happen, as with every real life market boom there is eventually a "correction" that'll knock prices down a bit. Often times it'll be a bit of a recession of sorts in that markets will drop but after a time those prices become the new normal and so eventually when they rise again the cycle repeats itself.

tl;dr markets were on all time highs and collapsed as player demand exceeds supply, recruit more players to improve overall market demand & wait for the markets to rebuild themselves in the post war environment.

Thank God Benjamin Franklin struck the ground with his magical lightning rod and invented Capitalism.  That's also how he and George Washington won the revolution all by themselves.  With his magical lightning rod.

In all seriousness, he just said what I said only smarter.

  8. I love this guy.

Side note: !@#$ isn't censored anymore?

    Edit: The plural form isn't

I stumbled my way upon a loophole in the censorship.

Anyway, back to Nationalism, I guess.  Nationalism, I suppose, is just pride in country.  Nothing inherently wrong with that.

  9. The problem is that now that munitions are so high, people would rather buy lead and make them themselves (thus driving up the price of lead.) Then you have people like me who would rather sell 100 at 1,000 than 10 at 1,500 just so that I get cash before you.

    That's my kind of business.

  10. I think tanks would've been used more if it had been an even war.  Like if EoS only had declared war on TAC and not UPN/DEIC as well.  I still think they are a great way to win land battles when you both have the same amount of troops.  Costly, yes, but still going to be necessary cost.

I just think when VoC and UPN joined they felt they didn't need tanks to get the job done.  In an even fight that would change drastically as tanks don't get destroyed as fast and don't require as many improvement slots.

But I agree planes should have cost raised along with maybe 2-3x the alum requirements.

Can I inquire as to the math behind this?
