  1. Free market all the way.  People should feel obligated to not work any job where the pay is sub-standard.

You want to see what a free market looks like?  Go to Wiliston, ND and get a job at McD's or Walmart - you get paid well over $15 an hour since demand outweighs supply.

Don't want employers to hire at $8, don't work that job so they have to raise pay in order to fill job openings.

I generally agree, but low wage-low skill jobs are important.  They give people opportunities to BUILD skills.  When you raise minimum wage, you take that opportunity away.  Particularly from poorer neighborhoods.

  2. Literally nobody is arguing that increasing the minimum wage won't increase cost of living and prices.

But it is absolutely false to state that there are any statistics or studies that demonstrate that an increase in the minimum wage would increase cost of living more than (or even the same amount as) it would increase median and/or mean incomes.

    Except it's not.

Answer me this: Why does Wal-Mart lobby for a higher minimum wage?

  3. I can see why you would think that, but... I do disagree for the reasons I already mentioned.  There are things they could have done to make it a more radical departure.  I suspect that we will see alien playables in an expansion in the future, for instance.

I think they should have given the factions more flavor than they did.  Because there's really none at all.  I really liked the addition of orbital units; I thought that was quite clever.  I think that that could have been taken a step further, though.

If I had to pick the thing I liked most about the game it would probably be the new social policy mechanic.  If I had to pick the thing I liked least it would probably be the aliens and how the aliens are a necessary part of gameplay.  You couldn't turn them off even if that option were available in the interface (which it is not).  Games are less customizable.
