  1. Nation Name: Taissaugh

    Alliance Name: Umbra

    Credit References: N/A

    Guarantor(s): Umbra

    Daily After-Cost Revenue: $430,278.58

Did Someone Refer You To Us?  If so, Who: N/A

Amount you would like to borrow: $3,000,000

What Is Your Investment Plan: Planning on using this money to invest in our alliance, and increase our tax rate temporarily to pay it off over time.

I, Taissaugh, agree to the following if I choose to accept a loan from the Cirrus Bank:
    -Pay all interest associated
    -Repay the principal
-Act in good faith to repay all my debts and refrain from misrepresenting my intentions or history.

I also give the Cirrus Bank, or whoever may hold my debt in the future, the right to reclaim my debt through the use of force.  I agree to inform any alliance I may join while holding this debt of this arrangement.

  2. Food is crazy high.  Is that just b/c most nations are in the northern hemisphere?

I think part of it is that when you're at war, your soldiers consume more food. There's a lot of wars going on, so I'm sure the demand for food has spiked a bit.

  3. You don't have to be in an alliance to get the color bonus, though, do you? Why would you need to create a "colony" alliance when you could just switch to a different color for the increased bonus. I mean, obviously it would appear that you weren't in an alliance, but even if alliances did immediately have a negative impact people could still do this -- leave their alliance and just switch to a color with a good bonus.

  4. Yeah this deflates the market really fast. Look at munitions for today, this morning they were posted near $2500 ppu, now they're down near $1500 because of undercutting. If only the producers would coordinate it could really help keep sustainable profits for all categories. I was considering attempting to start some kind of e.g. "Munitions Producers Union" to try to coordinate the market development, but PW players seem to really have a hard time resolving the collective action problem, so at this point I'm assuming it's not even worth an attempt. But who knows, maybe this thread will spark some interest in organizing producers, once they see that if we work together we can control the market.

I agree that it would be near impossible to get everyone to cooperate. I think Sheepy proposed a trade union idea where nations that joined a union would have a minimum cap when selling resources, but no one seemed to think it would be a good idea.

To really control the market for a resource I imagine you'd have to spend a lot of money to buy out everyone who undercut you and then sell at your price, but that would be an awful lot of micromanaging and take an awful lot of money to buy everyone out.

  5. One thing you missed, Athanasios, that Quelye was doing was listing the resources in order according to price (highest to lowest). So for your last post, gas should have been listed first, then steel, aluminum, munitions, and so on. It is interesting to see not only the amount of increase or decrease, but also which resource seems to be most in demand.

You are correct, I was tracking them in order of price. I've been too busy unfortunately though to keep up, so thanks for stepping in and posting an update Athanasios! Keep doing the updates if you'd like :)

  6. First, I just want to say thank you to all of you who had nice things to say about this DoE. I'm glad to see this much support and positive thoughts! :)

Good luck with this endeavor, I for one am glad to see a new democracy springing up.

Some advice, if you haven't done so already; appeal to one of the larger alliances to establish a protectorate until you reach a time when your alliance can finally stand on it's own two feet. Otherwise raiders and other alliances might go after you guys... and even with a protectorate that will probably happen, but at least then you'll be able to ask your protector for some rebuilding aid and make up any losses.

I like the alliance flag too, very minimalist.

Thanks! I considered asking a larger alliance about a protectorate, but alas I did not want to be drug into one side or another in this conflict. I have no qualms with either side specifically, but simply wish to be on my own, neutral side.

That said, my nation is pretty bulked up militarily so I'm prepared to fight anyone that might think I'm an easy target, and I'll work on aiding new members so they can defend themselves as well.

I would say new alliance, becareful who you recruit as your member later on, someone might see you as a threat and plant spies among you.

My philosophy has always been that there if there are going to be spies, (which there will be) there shouldn't be anything "secret" that they could find. I think a very open, transparent alliance government is the way to, and that way a spy wouldn't find out anything that everyone else didn't already know.

  7. yeah there's more to running an alliance than having ideas

you actually have to put them into action

good luck though - i don't want to spoil your DoE with dirty laundry, and you were fun to have around

I understand that, however seeing as I was just a member I did not have the power to follow through with my ideas.

In any case, what's done is done, and as I stated on SI forums I wish to leave on good terms and have cordial relations with SI in the future.

  8. Thanks guys,

I'm certainly leaning toward joining one as there is so many benefits and not many cons, at least for me.

Certainly looking toward the economic benefits to grow and expand as well as the social aspects.

I just formed a brand new alliance based on the principles of economy, autonomy, and democracy. If you want to learn more about us, check out the DoE I just posted, here: http://politicsandwar.com/forums/index.php?/topic/3104-umbra-doe/

  9. you're welcome to come back when you get tired of being raided

wish you had put half that amount of effort into SI but hey, it's your effort, do with it what you want

While off topic, I did make several forum posts during my time at SI that went nowhere. My proposal to start an embargo list to deal with raiders, while received well initially was ultimately ignored, as well as my request to lower the alliance resource tax rate. Ultimately I did not wish to build my nation in the way that I would've been forced to at SI (or lost half my profits) and quite frankly I was unhappy about the decision to treaty EoS (which I expressed days ago on the alliance forums).

  10. Anyone else start reaching for their popcorn upon reading the first two letters of that initialism? "Oh, !@#$, it's A DECLARATION OF -- oh." Either way, welcome and stuff. I dig the simplicity in your charter and your flag.

Thanks! I find simple is often the best.

Always good to see new alliances forming. Good luck mate.

    Thank you!

  11. Until this point, I have not been a very active participant in the global community. I have lurked in the shadows (pun intended) while others lead. Now, I find myself unhappy with the state of the alliances in the community, and cannot find an alliance that represents the core values that I think are most important. For these reasons I am creating my own, new alliance based on the principles of economy, autonomy, and democracy.

    Umbra: The Shadow Alliance

Umbra is going to be different from other alliances for a few very important reasons. First of all, the economy of our nations will be as laissez-faire as possible, meaning that aside from providing basic knowledge on how the game works and how you might want to build your economies, it will be ultimately up to the members themselves to decide how they want to make money. This also means that our tax rate will be as minimal as possible to ensure that each nation can keep and reinvest their profits how they see fit. We will still use money to give aid to smaller nations, but in the more traditional way where larger nations give donations to smaller ones as acts of charity.

Secondly, we shall focus on autonomy as an alliance. Umbra will be as neutral as possible without being a neutral alliance. This means we will sign very few, if any, treaties and during most conflicts (like the one currently happening) we shall remain neutral. Unless our alliance is attacked directly, or we have a very close ally that we are treatied with who is attacked, we do not intend to fight in meaningless wars.

Thirdly, and this part is probably the least unique, we shall focus on democracy. This means that we will hold regular elections where all members shall have a vote and be eligible for every position, including our Commander (top executive) position. This will ensure that Umbra will be an eternal alliance.

For all of these reasons I am forming this alliance, and yes, at this point I am the sole member. However I am hoping that there may be others who seek similar principles as I've outlined who will join me, and soon we'll grow far beyond just my nation.
