Well really it depends on what happens afterwards in the end.
1: Vanguard stops it's strong support of Rose. Mensa succeeded in undermining your alliance.
2: Vanguard continues it's strong support of Rose, and is then referred to as a protectorate by a great many people losing any possible dignity left. Mensa failed in undermining your alliance.
I'd personally go with giving Mensa the win on that, but there has always been alliances who've aspired to be no more then minions I suppose so we'll see what choice is made.
You're assuming that Vanguard are not calling the shots in this war.
That assumption would be incorrect.

Rose and all those allied to it are what's viewed as the enemy in this case.
If you attack their weak ally in order to get them to break the alliance.... you have essentially attacked their alliance.
If you attack their weak ally, you're essentially a coward who attacked their ally.

That maybe the case, but when you try to adapt this real life strategy to P&W, it's bound to take on a new meaning.

That's not a realistic prospect . You are the weak link, and his strategy has always been to attack your enemy were they are weakest, and avoid them were they are strong.
In order for that to work, you have to actually attack your enemy though.

The exact quote says "attacking their alliances", you can google it, and how exactly do you intend on breaking the alliances without attacking?
"alliances" not "allies"
The alliance is the relationship between the two parties. Sun Tzu is saying you should undermine that relationship and make them distrust each other so that they break their alliance.

From what I remember, it is trying to say something along the lines of breaking their alliances or severing their relationship with their allies. Not attacking their allies.

In any case, Rose have failed to honour their defensive pacts. 1 v 1 wouldn't change the fact that they hung Vanguard & Reichswehr out to dry.

Do not engage an enemy more powerful than you(Yes I'm admitting Rose + VE are more powerful than Mensa), and if it is unavoidable and you do have to engage, then make sure you engage them on your terms, not on your enemy's terms. If you know yourself and you know your enemy, you do not have to fear the results of one hundred battles my friend. Victorious Warriors win first then go to battle. Defeated Warriors go to battle first then seek victory.
In order to be victorious, you have to actually fight your enemy.

Because you guys don't seem bad at all. Rose members have tried to use Real life instagram photos and such to troll. Not to mention the photos were of the leader of our alliance. Not to mention that would have been a Permaban for Oblige and Chickensdick. We don't stand for any !@#$ like that. We usually don't start things but yet are very good at finishing them.
Maybe you should have attacked them if they're so awful.
