For reference though, the implementation of the "thanks" reaction came simultaneously alongside the removal of the "downvote" reaction. This predictably resulted in several attempts to standardize the 'thanks' reaction as a sarcastic downvote.

These attempts weren't very successful, though; for the most part there's just a few individuals that use "thanks" as a kludge downvote with about the same number using it as an actual and specific 'thanks'. Most don't use it at all, but there's no reason why you shouldn't buck the trend and take it at face value. Be the rebel~
