Amaryllis
Eh decided why not. Believe it or not I'm Christian Grew up in a baptist family on both sides with some family members being very involved in the church. My childhood town has a church (sometimes two or three) on every street. My parents worked a lot so I was one of the few kids who didn't go to church every week but did attend vacation bible schools. Growing up, I was curious about God and some of the biggest positive influences on my life (besides my grandmothers) were actually pastors both senior and youth alike. Despite this, my childhood wasn't the best and something happened to me that made me question God, so I was more agnostic then with a few times I almost went full athiest. I continued to question this until my junior year of high school when I was diagnosed with depression, living in a two bedroom apartment with five family members, and just completely miserable. The people there were again had the most positive influence in my life which lead me to believe in God again. With that being said, I don't tell people that unless it comes up in discussion, or if I'm going to interact with someone who might have problems with it so they can back out if they can, and even then I don't go further into it unless the one I talk to asks the questions. Its just a personal belief that religion is a touchy topic for a lot of people and usually the other person has to want to talk about it. Again my personal belief. Thanks for reading. Lannan13
So there have been a lot of religious posts going on. Practically nothing but, tbh. I was wondering, how many of us have changed from the religious views we where born into? Talk about where you started, where you ended up and why? I would ask that people wouldn't try to convert others in the thread, but that's still going to happen. I'll start. Born into the United Church of Canada (Christian), but when I went to a Catholic School, I actually started thinking of my own beliefs seriously. Explored westernized new age Buddhism, but found it just as constraining as Christianity. Tried my hand at a broad sort of Deism, but it still didn't feel right. Then I took a philosophy class and learned about the classic arguments for God and how bad they were. Turned into an Agnostic almost on the spot and hardened into an Atheist over a little time. Being getting more and more entrenched ever since. Kinda, I was born Roman Catohlic and still am to a degree. I disagree with some of the things the church teaches, but still associate with them though I probably fit under another sect of the church. I've changed my views on gay marriage and abortion. I remember when I was getting confirmed, we had to write a paper to the arch-bishop why we were against it. I too went to a Catholic school.
