as a womans rights supporer, i think pornography is disgusting, it objectifies woman and makes them seem like objects to people. not only is this bad, but it's also a muilti billion dollar industry.

I think pornography should be banned in order to promote equality of both sexes. it is horrible that we live in a culture where woman are seen as objects.

Well said.

I support women's rights as well and do support you on your quest to ban pornography ~ although you might wanna check to see if you can talk about things like that on the forums.

Nah, it equally objectifies both genders, plus it helps the economy like every other good that can be bought and sold. But this might be against forum rules, it's borderline material.

Admittedly, I'm a prude - I don't swear, I don't like or tell perverted jokes, etc. And in line with that I agree in full that pornography is disgusting and certainly not beneficial. However, I don't think it is anything that the government should have jurisdiction over; it's a terrible habit for those who watch it, but unlike issues such as drugs, it doesn't actively bring harm to other people thanks to one person's addiction. So my answer would be no, I don't believe that's something the government can justify banning.

Issues like child pornography could be different, as it has in the past been consistently linked with child sex trafficking and similar crimes.

Weird... some women are usually pretty willing to go do porn because it pays well...they aren't forced into it, it's their choice.

I understand your point, Hawkeye, but I don't think it should be banned. It is free expression. I think a more noble goal would be to fight for the rights of sex workers by making sure they are paid adequately and have humane working conditions. I also think that a comprehensive sex education curriculum in school will instill a more realistic, safe and positive perspective on sex. Such a curriculum could counteract the harmful, deceptive ideas that pornography leads to.

Is there coercion involved? Sure, but there's coercion when you go out and do other things like buy a car. And is it messed up, I guess it can be in some circumstances, but that's not porns fault, that's our fault, that's just one of the many ways humans interact with each other.

NOTE: While I am defending porn, and people who watch porn, I myself am not really an avid watcher of porn. I'm just not really into it. I just want to make that clear because I have a feeling someone is going to bring up the argument that I'm simply a porn addict trying to justify his addiction.

No, that's not how it works. At least here in the United States, they aren't impoverished people who can't afford proper jobs - they are content with doing it, which isn't exactly admirable, but that's still how it is.

Kenneth is very correct in his statement that better solutions would be things like sex ed in schools; programs like that have in the past proven very effective, and they are much better long-term solutions as well, since they can help influence a culture that is more respectful of both sexes and more cautious of the dangerous and irresponsible side of intercourse.

I don't know what to say but woman want to be objectified for the most part as long as it benefits them, there is no real argument against woman being objectified except that the perks can come with negative effects.

It would be the same with males except males would have sex with anything that walks and talks.

That would be why pornography exists and should exist, males need it because they're sex hungry fiends.

As with any issue, this isn't a black/white scenario.

There's obviously many cases of abusive pornography that should be investigated, while providing an out for those involved who can't afford or are too afraid to do anything else. That said, there's also many cases of ethical pornography, so it's rather unfair to outright ban it.

So basically, I think that there should be better regulations on pornography to protect those who end up being involved on the abusive side of things, while allowing those who actually enjoy it continue with their careers.

Check out Hot Girls Wanted. It's actually pretty interesting.

Um, I don't really think women are too fond of being objectified. That's why we have something called "women's rights" and "feminists." I'm not a woman, but it's pretty clear that most of them would like to be seen the same way as men in the eyes of society.

Males also don't need pornography. Otherwise males wouldn't have survived to see the arrival of the internet. There are plenty of guys, myself included, who have not and do not watch it and find no interest in it. Unfortunately I don't think that group makes up the majority, but nothing about pornography is necessary or needed.

Sex is an animal instinct. You are forgetting humans are animals, we're just also civil. The bible was written by men, not god himself and god's existence cannot be proven. You follow blindly to something that may or may not exist from words or ideas, this god you praise has never said.

Clarke, not all males are sex-crazed. I'm pretty sure half of the males in this forum are virgins...

That is a rather narrow-minded view. Its natural purpose is indeed for reproduction, but you forget that the impulse towards it is hard-wired into our brains as firmly as things like friendship. It is extremely difficult for people to simply avoid it for a lifetime if they don't want children, and it's unrealistic to want or expect people to be able to maintain that kind of abstinence.

I too don't like the "fun" perspective, but that's just me, and you do have to recognize that pairs that practice it don't bring harm to anyone else - it is their affair and theirs alone.

No I disagree. In fact I say restrictions on pornography and the looking down upon it should cease instead.

Censorship is bad and so is being a puritan.

I agree about the censorship part, but there are some legitimate reasons for looking down on porn viewership. Particularly because it is quite well known for giving people unrealistic expectations or desires from their partners, which can result in damage to relationships or marriages - its effects are notable enough that we learned about them in my AP Psychology class (Myers text).

So should it be censored or banned? No. But is it an okay habit to have? Not at all.

Then share such things with the partner. Made easier if porn (and fetishes in general) aren't so looked down upon.

5. There are a few types of porn that are illegal and SHOULD be banned and cracked-down on HARD. Incest (in many areas) beastiality, pedophilia. All these things are disgusting and perverse. They are NOT tolerated by most of the world and that's what I think should be banned.

I'm no expert, but didn't some girls over in Britain get arrested because they looked too young, even though they were of age? I think I remember 4chan !@#$ing about that when I was bored as hell. (I only go on 4chan when I'm bored, like at airports)

Britain does have stricter laws regarding things related to pornography, so I wouldn't doubt it.

In conclusion, my answer is: no, it's not going to get !@#$ banned and it never will. Is it bad? Perhaps, but it also does a lot of good.

And let's be honest here, every single one of us had at least SEEN porn. It has it's place, and you can't deny that.

If porn viewership and masturbation are so necessary to good health, then how did men of the past not suffer from all these "infections" and such that you mention? I am certainly not denying these studies have found benefit in such practices, but I am very skeptical of your claim that it is unhealthy not to do so. Or at least not nearly to the extent that you would have it seem. I also just turned 18 and have never done that before, and I don't suffer from any strange infections or symptoms, nor am I sexually "aggressive" in any way. I don't think those things are necessary in any sense of the word.

As for the second part, I am speaking quite honestly when I say I have not. I'm open-minded when it comes to what other people do - generally I don't care - but I am very strict about what I allow myself to do, and that is one of my personal taboos. Similarly, the only time I have verbally uttered any swear word was when I saw the f-word scratched on a bathroom stall in third grade, and asked what it meant when I got home. Simply because things like pornography - or swearing, masturbating, trying pot, whatever -  are commonplace does not mean they are universal habits.

Edit: In case that seemed rather pointless, what I'm trying to indicate is that things like pornography aren't simply natural and necessary for reproductive health. While they are common, there are plenty of people who do not view/practice those things and are not in any unhealthy condition, not to mention that the majority of people in the world don't have access to pornography and similarly lack any reason to masturbate. Pornography is much more well known for producing sex and porn addictions and for causing significant friction in established relationships and families than it is for producing any effects that are more beneficial than not watching it. Once again, I don't think it is anything within the rightful jurisdiction of the government - but to say that it is beneficial is highly misleading, because in fact it can become a very addictive and problematic habit.
