To the Americans in the community, which of the candidates currently running do you think are the best and who is most likely to win the nomination for the Democratic and Republican party nominations?

I think Bernie Sanders is the best candidate, for numerous reasons. I think Hillary Clinton will probably be the Democratic nominee and I think Jeb Bush will be the Republican nominee (Scott Walker might catch up though, and Marco Rubio is possible). Predicting the overall election, I think Hillary Clinton is the most likely candidate to win the presidency.

I think support for Hillary Clinton has dropped over time. I do however think that we will have a republican president after this election.

Statistically, she's huge. We actually just talked about some of the candidates on this thread: http://politicsandwar.com/forums/index.php?/topic/7347-why-do-people-say-donald-trump-is-not-a-serious-candidate/

The Republicans aren't really in such a good position for the presidency. The fact that they've broken up a little thanks to the growth of the Tea Party means that 1) they have a lot of candidates, obviously, and 2) their candidates have very diverse, specific values. The Tea Party's influence also likely means the nominee this election will probably be more radical than past Republican nominees (like John McCain, who is a respectable moderate). If so, many of the more moderate Republicans may be more comfortable voting for someone like Hillary Clinton than swinging too far right for a more radical Republican.

In contrast, Hillary Clinton has a very solid and ongoing presence in the Democratic Party. She's got strong connections with Wall Street, which is usually an advantage for the Republicans (who consistently back corporations and super pacs). She also has the advantage of being very well-known to the public, partially through Bill Clinton's presidency (which many moderate Republicans, and of course Democrats, view as a highly successful administration) and partially through her large track record.

The Democrats as a whole also do not have the disadvantage of being broken up like the Republicans are; this was no so problematic in the Congressional elections because those are much more local votes, but a presidential election requires a much greater degree of unified opinion, which currently the GOP lacks. Also adding on the fact that the Republicans lost a bit of electorate confidence after things like the government shutdown and the recent lawsuit against healthcare subsidies, I think as it stands now, it is unlikely that the Republicans will win this election.

I'm voting for David Cameron

David Cameron isn't so bad at all from the perspective of the Americans, haha. After all, the progressives here in America are equivalent to the conservatives in just about every other developed country. I like the SNP though.. Alex Salmond and all... an independent Scotland would have been interesting at least. :P

Anybody but Hillary Clinton, please

Given that, and given that your location says North Carolina, I'm going to guess you're a GOP man, haha. I'm a Democrat. B)

Personally, I think we need to model the success in Europe (Nordic countries). I think Socialism is the way of the future. Corporations will only be able to enforce crapitalism for so long. Because of all of this, I am a Democrat, as well as a Socialist. My ideal situation would be Bernie Sanders as President. However, based on the recent polls, I expect Hillary Clinton will win the race. Here are my opinions on some candidates:

Hillary: Meh, not bad, but a few too many scandals and flips for my likings.

Bernie: Socialist, so naturally, I love him.

Martin O'Malley: Personally, he's my least favorite of the Democratic candidates. I disagree with him on a few issues, such as the drug war.

Donald Trump: LOL

Jeb Bush: So far, he's my favorite of the Republican candidates, because he's the most reasonable.

Scott Walker: I despise him for a number of reasons. He is very pro-corporation and anti-worker, for one. Also, he never even finished college.

I doubt a Republican will be elected President in 2016. I'm not sure how the eventual nominee will repudiate whatever they say in order to win the primaries, dominated by right-wing voters. I mean, Donald Trump is ahead in some polls. That's right: Donald Trump is leading.

The problem is, the more popular he becomes with the segment of Republican votes most likely to participate in the primaries/caucuses, the less likely will he appeal to the broader public when the general election campaign gets going. Just read this: http://www.politico.com/story/2015/07/donald-trump-storms-phoenix-119989.html?hp=t1_r

How will Jeb Bush overcome the enthusiasm for Trump? No doubt that the other right-wingers running - Huckabee, Cruz, Carson - will no doubt follow his lead by being unapologetic supports for certain right-wing causes, be it rolling back Same-Sex Marriage, "Religious Freedom," Illegal Immigration, Public Spending, etc. Again, any Republican who wishes to have cross-party appeal (Bush, Rubio, Christie, Perry, Walker) are going to have to contend with these populists before they can even address Hillary Clinton. I just don't see anyone emerging without major bruises.

...

Right now, I'm supportive of Bernie Sanders, although I doubt he'll win the nomination. My hope is that his popularity pushes Clinton to address concerns Liberals have on many issues where Clinton has been unclear: TPP, Israel, surveillance, her connections with Wall Street. Can it hurt her? Sure, but it's far easier for her to win the general election than any of the Republicans.

Should be a fun election season!

Looks to me like Clinton will win the democratic nomination, but hey, I'm just a high school slacker.

For the republican candidacy, Jeb Bush seems like a reasonable guy, so naturally he can't win. Not sure who it will be, but pretty sure I won't like it.

Aw yeah, we've got the Bernie Sanders crew in here.

I'll be America's newest Democrat on July 20th. :)

Last time around, I voted for Gary Johnson of the Libertarian Party. Obviously he didn't do to well, but IMO, everyone is just crap. If he runs again, I'll probably vote for him again.....if he doesn't....who knows. If you start reading his wiki, read the whole thing. The guy did some great stuff as Governor of New Mexico.

Count me in on the Bernie Sanders train. I've liked what he says for a long time and I'm glad he's finally running.

On the Republican side, it really is a clown car and The Donald really is driving it. I think as some of the others bow out and start throwing their support behind other candidates, Trump will slip down the polls. But until then, I can't wait for the debates!

I like Ted Cruz pretty well, I feel like he's one of the, uhh, ''purest'' of the GOP running. As in I think he's honest where he stands on issues. Ben Carson is pretty cool, I feel like he may be a little naive, but I don't think he's bought off by corporations nor does it seem like he's just playing the politics game of just saying what's right in the moment (like Jeb Bush)

Rick Perry and Rick Santorum didn't win last time, they ain't winnin' this time. I'm sure they're nice guys, but come on.

Hillary Clinton's lack of campaigning (compared to other candidates) and her poor treatment of the media (wiring them off, pre-approved questions) really turns me off.

Bernie Sanders is a socialist. Although I commend his desire to take money out of politics; no, thank you.

I think this election season is better for the GOP than the last election, and it'll be fun to see how Clinton and Sanders play it out again some of the spotlight GOP heads.

Realistically, it's way to early to get a good idea who may or may not win the presidency.

I align with the Libertarian party most. There are ideas from both parties that I support, however.

I would have voted for Gary Johnson if I was old enough. I'm ready to vote this time around.

Unless Walker gets hit by a major scandal, I think that he will be the GOP nominee. Even his foes say that he is a good campaigner, is good with speeches and debates, and really connects with the voters. Whether or not you like his agenda, look at what he has done....won two terms and survived a recall election in a bluish-purple state as well as getting his agenda through despite some concerns by state GOP members.

Hillary will get the Dem nomination, but in the process may push the party too far to the left. Politically, she is not like Bill (who was more a centrist) and that will be an issue....Hillary does not equal Bill. I also question her campaign skills. Of course she won in New York, which isn't hard if you have a "D" next to your name. But look at her performance in 2008...it was pretty poor. It was way too easy for Barrack Obama to catch her off-guard. His campaign caught on to that early and capitalized on it. Now, we are seeing much of the same. She hit a couple of snags and they caught her off-guard.

#FeelTheBern Sanders 2016

On the Republican side who knows, I've learned that the guy who runs as the biggest !@#$ in the contest usually wins Republican primaries, so Jeb will probably end up losing and it'll be a contest between Walker and Trump

Bernie Sanders is gaining some pretty great momentum. Would I call him most likely to win the nomination? Definitely not. However, there is a lot of time left, and he is definitely the best candidate.

I had to check the OP to make sure this wasn't a "put together the worst possible presidential lineup imaginable" thread. :v

Jokes aside, Bernie Sanders all the !@#$ing way.
