For those wanting stackable, you have to look at the extreme cases.. A maxed out raider would loot 40% of a nation they defeat and gain 8m for every war won.

One thought: Have some commodities with high benefits but also highs costs that are only imposed on the producing nation.

I think this could produce an interesting dynamic where smaller nations, for whom the "high costs" will be relatively modest in the context of a small nation, produce the commodities and sell the trade connections to larger nations, who probably would end up paying them something between the cost to the small nation and what the cost would be if they produced the commodity.

On the flip side you could have a commodity that requires an expensive project to produce, but that provides a significant benefit only for smaller nations.  A commodity that requires 20 cities to produce but reduces the cost of cities 1-10 by 10%, for example.

Have you ever played Stellaris? I think having consumer goods be produced as a resource and give different bonuses to your nation would work better than this.

I like the idea and see don't care if it originally comes from cn. Alot of the values feel worthless however. 1%commerce 1% income .5% pop 2%food. It just is so small its meaningless. Should be around 2-3% for the first 3 and 4-5% for the food. Most of the other things seem fine however.

@Prefontaine one thing I've been confused on; when you say things don't stack, does that mean that if I select Tea and Spices as my two commodities I only get 1% monetary increase? Or are you saying two Tea commodities wouldn't stack?

If you are going to steal from CN, why not go all the way, and make having certain combinations of commodities give additional bonuses.

Also lightside, at your size 1% income should be like 300k that's a pretty good amount of cash

Yes but that still worse then the static income ones even though I am a whale. It doesn't make any balence sense to have it that way. Larger nations should benefit more from the percent change goods then the static amount goods in my opinion.

Is that a problem?

Two tea commodities wouldn’t stack. Tea and spice would both give their benefit.

Honestly, it's a terrible idea.

We've been here before with Cybernations trade circles and all it does in that game is generate a lot of stress for the poor sucker in each alliance that ends up having to organise them. They're just simply not fun and will do nothing other than widen the gap between haves and have nots.

To be honest, I would significantly increase the bonuses. If the goal is to disrupt the meta and really add flavour via specialisation, then the bonuses have to be worthwhile instead of just just a couple % here and there. The bonuses have to really encourage a nation making the decision to specialise in a particular build so we can get rid of this approach to just whale it and buy everything and add some variety to the meta.

1 or 2% bonuses aren't really going to encourage much changes to the meta when the daily login bonus on its own exceeds most of the % benefits after all.

@Prefontaine So this idea is pretty similar to the mechanic of resources in CN. In CN, when you trade with someone in your colour bloc, you get +2 happiness per each trade within your colour bloc. This led to increased economic cooperation/treaties between alliances on the same colour. I would like to propose something similar, but for each trade you have with someone in your colour bloc, you get an extra 3% commerce (which also increases the hardcap). This is a meaningful reward that also increases the economic importance of colour blocs besides the extra turn bonus.

Best to add more resources in general rather than add a boring CN like mechanic. Trade circles will just hurt the game imo maybe even more so than a "tech" system being implemented.

I'm not suggesting adding it, on the contrary I think it would give unnecessary advantage to top tier nations and the game would be in a situation where there'd be a huge "wealth" gap. (Even though there already is a big gap)
