Thoughts on the global war and the nature of truth

A passage from the film "The English Patient" that I thought appropriate to our current situation:

My darling, I'm waiting for you .

How long is a day in the dark, or a week?

 

The fire is gone now, and I'm horribly cold.

I really ought to drag myself outside,

but then there would be the sun.

 

I'm afraid I waste the light in the paintings,

and on writing these words.

 

We die.

We die rich with lovers and tribes,

tastes we have swallowed,

bodies we have entered, and swum up like rivers,

fears we have hidden in, like this wretched cave.

 

I want all of this marked on my body.

We are the real countries,

not the boundaries drawn on maps, the names of powerful men.

 

I know you will come and carry me out into the palace of winds.

That's all I've wanted - to walk in such a place with you, with friends.

An earth without maps.

 

The lamp has gone out, I'm writing in the darkness.

Regarding Enemies

This is your enemy. That is your enemy.
This one is without doubt your enemy.
The enemy of the people is your enemy as well.
Ah, but do you not yet see, that this is the easy answer?
Words from those who look without seeing.
Perhaps that is the real enemy.

Enemies no longer charge out in helmet and armor, as in days of old.
Nowadays they use slide rules, advanced mathematics, and data to make their calculations…
And yet, somehow, this sort of enemy does not stir my heart.
You fear that upon seizing them, you’ll find you’ve grabbed a decoy, or perhaps even an ally.
No, the enemy I seek is not to be sought, lest we find ourselves surrounded…
No, but one day we will come upon each other.
And for that day, all of my faculties will be ready to meet him.

My claws and teeth, my ears and hands, my being will be ready for battle.
When I can call him Enemy! When I can call him My Enemy!
I believe that chance will come…
