The War Begins

Several days after the announcement of the Demon Army's formation, the first battles of the war would begin. Early Sunday morning, the Demon Army opened up two fronts - one in the north, and one in the west. Additionally, they would rely on decoys in the south for the purpose of distracting the Human Alliance forces. With the order to attack given, several hundred demons along the border of South Korea aggressively crossed the Demilitarized Zone. Sirens blared on the human side, signalling the attack. As the human military scrambled, the real attacks were taking place elsewhere.

In the Demon Army's Chinese territory, General Alciel was stationed with his troops. A massive force of 25,000 soldiers, 1,000 anti-tank soldiers, 500 ZTS tanks, 100 support artillery vehicles, 100 anti-air vehicles, 100 Dream End Jets, 7 Dream End Airships, 1 Aura-Class Cruiser, 1 Aura-Class Frigate, 1 Aura-Class Corvette, 1 Aura-Class Transport Ship, and 1 Aura-Class Submarine was ready to invade the vulnerable Human Alliance Chinese territories. With word of the attack on the Korean peninsula commencing, General Alciel and his troops bulldozed their way across the border. Before they could even strike back, the human military forces stationed in the area were wiped out. It wasn't very long before the demons breached the city defenses of Jinan and Weifang, massacring anyone in their way. 157 miles to the east, along the northern coast of the Shandong Peninsula, ballistic missiles were launched to target the city of Yantai. Similar attacks would soon begin further south in the city of Qingdao. It was the hope of the Demon Army to quickly and easily defeat the humans in China, opening up the possibility of invading South Korea from multiple sides.

In the north, General Lucifer led his army across the border into vampire territory. A larger force of 50,000 soldiers, 2,000 anti-tank soldiers, 1,500 ZTS tanks, 300 support artillery vehicles, 300 anti-air vehicles, 200 Dream End Jets, 14 Dream End Airships, 2 Aura-Class Cruisers, 1 Aura-Class Frigate, 1 Aura-Class Corvette, 2 Aura-Class Transport Ships, and 2 Aura-Class Submarines crossed the border into Manchuria. The demons' goals in the north were twofold. It was recognized early on that Vampiria would be the greatest threat of the other three newly formed nations. It was of great importance to deal as much damage as possible before they elected a formal leader and could launch more organized counterattacks. Their second goal was to create a connection with their territory in China. Not only would this make it easier to continue their invasion of Vampiria, but it would also grant the demons control of the Yellow Sea while simultaneously cutting off naval access for the vampires. Success in the northern campaign was critical. In the first few hours, the demons had secured Paektu Mountain and closed the large bulge along the Chinese-North Korean border. Their forces had also reached the port city of Dalian, commencing their attack to capture it.

As these battles raged on, General Esdeath and the Jaegers overlooked a section of the DMZ as the demons attempted to cross. Run, a member of the Jaegers, turned to Esdeath. "I assume our forces have permission to counterattack?" Esdeath simply chuckled. "Don't bother." Run looked at her with a confused expression. By now, several thousand demons were rampaging across the DMZ. "What do you mean?" Esdeath replied. "If this is their attempt at an invasion, it is indescribably pathetic. I will handle this." She took several deep breaths, charging up her power. In the next instant, she jumped onto a passing airship, using her incredible power to create a huge wall of ice. The ground rumbled, causing what felt like an earthquake for several hundred miles. A huge wall of permafrost ice erupted across the entire DMZ. By the time she was done, the wall of ice had permanently frozen the entire force of demons present in the DMZ, and stood at 100 meters (328 feet) tall and stretched for 155 miles. This feat certainly took a lot out of the general, as she collapsed immediately afterward. Instead of launching a counterattack, the scrambled human military forces would instead tend to the collateral damage caused by the formation of the wall. For the next 24 hours, the demons would continue to advance in China while Esdeath was unconscious.

Esdeath awoke the next day to discover Run sitting at bedside. As she sat up, he addressed her politely as always. "General Esdeath, good morning. You were out for quite some time. How are you feeling?" She looked at him, answering his question. "I am alright. What happened after I passed out?" Run sighed before proceeding to explain. "Shortly after you passed out, we quickly learned that the demons' attack across the DMZ was intended as a decoy. Their real attack was taking place on the Chinese mainland. Before we could properly launch a counterattack, they had taken the cities of Jinan and Weifang, as well as the Shandong Peninsula. At present, we have forces on the ground, sea, and air in our Chinese territories. The demons have the northern Yellow Sea pretty well locked down, which is preventing our navy from getting too close to the peninsula."

Esdeath frowned slightly and looked down. "This is my fault. I should have noticed that their attack was a fake out." Run responded. "Don't be too hard on yourself, General. Because of your feat, we managed to exterminate thousands of demons along the border, and prevent any future invasions by land across the DMZ." "I suppose, but what of the situation in China?" Run pulled up a map, showing Esdeath the current situation. "We have confirmation that General Alciel is commanding the Demon Army in China. Our forces have fallen back to the cities of Jining, Linyi, and Rizhao. Night Raid and the other Jaegers are on the ground combating the Demon Army. Emilia Justina and Crestia Bel are there as well. Their prior experience fighting the demons has proven quite helpful. We've managed to push them back a little bit, but Alciel's forces have formed a pretty strong defensive line around here. Things have been at a stalemate for most of the day."

Esdeath continued to study the map. "What about China? Any movements from them or the other nations?" "You could say that. According to reports, it would seem the vampires, or Vampiria, has secured China's entire northern and western border. The Chinese have attempted to launch counterattacks, but to no success. Their military is still severely weakened after the previous war with Rokkenjima. The Chinese haven't launched any attacks against us or the demons. At this point, it would appear that our only possibility to retake our lost Chinese territory would be to cut through the PRC's land in an attempt to flank the demons, but it wouldn't be wise to risk opening another front in this conflict. We still don't know if the witches are planning to launch an attack from the south. Which reminds me, it would seem that the Israeli navy was attempting to return to East Asia to aid us, but got caught in a deadly confrontation with the witches in the South China Sea and turned back."

Esdeath just shook her head. "Imbeciles. I told them not to return. Please forward a message to their queen to remind them that we do not want or require their assistance. If they attempt to reach us again, we will not provide any support." Run nodded. "Yes, ma'am." Esdeath glanced at the map again. "What's this?" She pointed to the marked area in Manchuria. "The Demon Army initiated an invasion of Vampiria at the same time as their attack on us. They've pushed pretty far into Manchuria. The city of Dalian was captured this morning. Our guess is that they're trying to connect with Alciel's forces in China, and cut off the vampires' naval access. General Lucifer is leading the invasion of Vampiria." He paused for a moment. "What should we do, General?" Esdeath exhaled, thinking. "For now, we will wait. Have some of our forces defend our southern border in China. Concentrate our navy presence in the Yellow Sea, Tsushima Strait, and Sea of Japan. We will monitor any movements from the demons and witches. We won't do anything major yet. It should only be a matter of time before the vampires start pushing the demons back. Then we will have our chance." Run stood and bowed. "As you wish."

The Queen receives the General's message, and decides to change her plan. As the Human's do not want help, they will not get help. The Israelis will still attack the Demons and Vampires.

With action on the western front stalled, the Demon Army continued their advance on the northern front. The vampires in the region fought hard, but they were ultimately no match for the Demon Army war machine. Lucifer's army had succeeded in entering the provinces of Inner Mongolia and Hebei. Within a week, the demons had reached the border of Mongolia proper and were on the doorstep of Vampiria's capital, Beijing. At this point, the only remaining naval access Vampiria possessed was the ports of Tianjin. With a stalemate on the western front with the humans, General Alciel began to turn his focus to the north, preparing to launch a coordinated strike with General Lucifer's army on Beijing. By no means would the capture of the city be the end of Vampiria, but it would be crucial the keep the Demon Army's momentum going.

Meanwhile, in an area unknown to the human realm...

The witches Bernkastel and Lambdadelta lie stretched out on a king-sized bed, surrounded by what can only be compared to the fanciest hotel room Earth had to offer. The eerie purple mist that surrounded the room, however, served as a reminder that the room was in fact not located on Earth. The two cuddled closely, their fingers interlocked as their faces lay only inches apart. Bern looked like she was half-asleep, her eyes shut peacefully as Lambda stroked her hair. They continued like this for several moments before Bern opened her eyes. Lambda spoke softly to her. "I wish you didn't have to go." Bern savored the moment for a few more seconds before slowly sitting up. "Indeed, but it is time I prepare for the invasion. There is something crucial I must attend to." Lambda pouted a bit. "Promise me you'll hurry back." Bernkastel looked back at her as she stood up. "I promise." With that, her form broke apart into several hundred golden butterflies as she teleported.

July 13th

At the crack of dawn, the Demon Army's forces initiated their coordinated strike on the cities of Tianjin and Beijing. The naval forces of Vampiria and the Demon Army were engaged in fierce combat on the Yellow Sea as the demons moved to capture the vampires' remaining ports in Tianjin. The resistance from the vampires was stronger than previously observed, most likely due to the impending attack on their capital. Rocket and missile launches from the demons were shot down before they could reach Beijing. It was close to 8 AM before the demons finally arrived at the outskirts of Beijing. General Alciel's forces were positioned in the south, and General Lucifer's forces in the north. Their mission was the capture of Vampiria's capital, which would allow them to lay siege to the city of Tianjin and thus achieve an easy victory after a hard-fought battle.

The vampires that were defending the outskirts of Beijing withdrew into the city itself, just as a thick fog began to blanket the capital. Visibility for the demons decreased rapidly until they were only able to see several feet in front of them. With the fog rolling in, Lucifer decided to contact Alciel to devise a new plan. "Alciel, are you seeing this fog too?" A few seconds passed before Alciel's response. "Indeed. At this point, their numbers are still unknown. Although our forces are accustomed to urban warfare, there isn't much we can do between low visibility and the sheer scale of Beijing. Sending in ground forces blindly would only result in a massacre. I would suggest sending in airborne scouts first and attempting to establish air superiority." Lucifer responded before ending communications. "Right. Can do."

Lucifer spread his blackened wings, beginning to ascend along with several others capable of flight. A few moments passed before they could look down at the buildings below, some of them protruding above the fog. They started to fly forward, seeing if there was any chance they could peek through the fog, but with no luck. Lucifer sighed. "It's no use. We'll have to go back and hold out until the fog passes. I guess I'll send word to Alciel and-gah!!" He was cut short as a massive burst of Ragnite was fired in his direction from within the fog, requiring all his might to dodge in time. The energy from the Ragnite was enough to split the fog above the city, revealing a large enemy fleet of Dream End Airships. As soon as they came into view, Lucifer and his forces were forced to quickly scramble as a barrage of Ragnite bullets rained down on their location. Most of them deployed magical shields to protect themselves from the bullet storm, but many were unfortunately struck and lost to the fog below.

"Reconvene with the ground forces and stand by! Call in our air forces while keeping an eye out for any enemy advances!" As they began their descent, Lucifer fired several powerful projectiles of demonic energy in the direction of the airships. None managed to land a direct hit, but they did succeed in halting the firing of their Ragnite cannons as the demons descended. On their way down, Lucifer sent word to Alciel once more. "Dude, they've sent in their airship fleet! We just had an extremely close encounter with their cannons. We need to send in air support now!" "Understood, and what have I said about using informalities on the battlefield, General Lucifer?!" "Like it really matters right now!" The sounds of gunfire and cannon fire surrounded the city as the battle for Beijing was now underway. No matter which side prevailed, this would serve as a turning point in the war.

July 16th

A few days had passed. The battle for Beijing was intense. The action never stopped for more than a few minutes at a time. In the end, the Demon Army was left exhausted, never managing to break through Vampiria's defenses and infiltrate the city. While both sides had suffered losses, most were suffered by the demons. By the morning of the 16th, the order had been given for the Demon Army to fall back. For General Alciel, it was south into Shandong province. For General Lucifer, it was into northeastern Hebei province. The loss at Beijing had confirmed previous suspicions that Vampiria had, up until recently, been operating without a leader. The mission now, however, was to determine the identity of this new leader. It was obvious from the battle that they were adept at organizing and leading people, a fact that would continue to spell trouble for the demons over the coming weeks.

July 19th

Vampiria, having managed to defend both Beijing and Tianjin, continued to further their momentum. Their army and air force moved to the south and northeast, securing Hebei province and pushing the demons back even more. Vampiria's navy started to regain their numbers and strength, combating the Demon Army's navy on the Yellow Sea.

July 26th

The battle for Dalian began. Vampiria secured a key naval victory against the Demon Army in the areas surrounding the city, allowing for a naval bombardment and subsequent land invasion to take place. By the time it was over, the battle for Dalian would be the longest and deadliest since the battle for Beijing two weeks earlier.

July 27th

Vampiria began their push into the provinces of Liaoning and Inner Mongolia. As this occurred, repeated attempts from the demons to advance from the south into Hebei failed.

July 30th

With Liaoning and Inner Mongolia secured, the vampires had managed to regain their connection to their northern territories. As a result, Vampiria's growing military would now be able to more easily launch coordinated strikes against the demons from multiple directions at once. The next week would be spent holding off the Demon Army's attempted advances while Vampiria constructed more military units and formed battle plans with their forces in the north.

August 7th

A massive push to retake Vampiria's remaining territory began. Within a few days, half of Jilin and Heilongjiang had been retaken by the vampires.

August 10th

King Satan Jacob of the Demon Army gave the order for General Lucifer's forces to retreat across the border to North Korea. Within hours following the retreat, Vampiria had reclaimed all of their territory lost to the Demon Army. King Satan, along with his strongest soldiers, would join Lucifer's forces at the border, reinforcing it to prevent the vampires from infiltrating the Demon Army's territory proper.
