Ruled Britannia

Although the abrupt fall of the Hungadadan government hadn't preceded a civil war like with Occitania, the new government was its own worst enemy. Attempting to revive some patriotism after the recent civil unrest, the new government had attempted to gain control of the English Channel. After all, it was only right for the channel to belong to the people it was named after. They had mistakenly assumed that Lumia would be so preoccupied by their domestic war front that they'd be unable to stop another front from being created. The Hungadadans had correctly deduced that the majority of the Lumian navy would be preoccupied with subduing Portugal, and so planned a surprise attack on the Northern Fleet.

Unfortunately for them, their movements had not gone unnoticed by the Lumian Orbital Network, which had noticed the suspicious movement of their fleet in the previous week. When the Hungadadans sent their air force to destroy Lumian ships, the Lumian Air Force was notified, and fighter jets were scrambled on short notice. Ironically, the Lumian Civil War had made Hungadada's job more difficult, by putting Lumia's air force in an alert state. In the chaos that ensued, the Lumian destroyer Huxley was sunk, and the aircraft carrier Newton was temporarily damaged. 382 Hungadadan planes were destroyed, compared to 28 Lumian planes. Major damage was dealt to Lumia's northern naval bases, and would cost billions to repair. Lumia had gained the initiative, but the Lumian government may have lost the next election.

After the brief but destructive air battle, the Lumian military launched a combined aerial and naval assault on the Hungadadan navy. The Hungadadans were forced to retreat, and the south of Hungadada was blockaded. A cyber-operation cut off the urban power grid, causing widespread civil unrest. With the country threatening to revolt, the Hungadadan government was forced to sue for peace. The terms were harsh, but Hungadada was in no position to reject them.

President Cheuk shook his head, as a tinge of sadness interrupted his thoughts. Britain had been invaded successfully for the first time since 1066. It was not an achievement he was fully comfortable having next to his nation's name. A streak of almost one thousand years, broken without a single land battle. It was a far cry from the rhetoric of Winston Churchill. How the mighty had fallen.

The First Citizen of Hungadada, Rupert Hayes, made his first public appearance since his nation's humiliating military defeat at the hands of the Lumian Republic. In a televised speech, Hayes promised to avenge the nation's humiliation, and pledged to remove 'fifth columns' from Hungadada. Below is a brief extract from his speech.

"Over a century ago, Britannia ruled the waves. But other nations, nations lacking the fundamental spirit of ours, have usurped our position in the last hundred years. This is not the natural state of the world. History has shown that it repeats: that nations which were once powerful become powerful once more. Soon, it shall be our time again. Our first attempt may not have gone to plan, but we are defined by our determination. One day, we shall see all invaders banished from our doorstep. We will be respected once more."

Hungadada has passed laws for conscription into the military, and has increased troop concentration at the border with Lumia. In response, Lumia has deployed an army group to their British territory.
