Just Monika
Following the Meiji Restoration of 1868, the ancient Japanese state had reformed itself into a modern nation state as the Empire of Greater Japan. Through the tireless efforts of the Japanese people, guided by the Emperor and his advisors, the Empire made great progress in catching up the western powers and soon overcame its status as a victim of imperialism, as it joined the ranks of great powers, after the victory over the Qing 1895 and over Russia 1905. With the expansion into Korea, Taiwan and Karafuto, Japan even cemented its regional standing and soon became one of the premier powers in the Pacific, following the occupation of the Russian Far East following the outbreak of chaos in Eastern Siberia, as well as taking over the Philippines and other Pacific posessions as the United States of America seemed to fragment. Now, ruling over a true Empire of several thousand islands, the Empire seems to be at the zenith of its power, yet, it is hard to tell how Japan will develop, as the country still is split between the different factions of Imperialists, Liberals and Moderates, with great powers vested in the military, which is viewed as a stabilising factor in these harsh times where countries seem to disintegrate all around Japan.
