Now I had the idea of that with the New RP that there is a 3rd factor added. Along with the Older Tech and NPC nations,  I was thinking of editing Geography. With more seas and waterways where land was there before to some land connecting and fusing and adding new continents.  Me and Ag have worked on the map with him doing the NPCs,  me reworking the borders with addition of more nations to make the borders not cancer. Now my question is in the poll,  running till the 19th of May on my end. (Central European Time)

I already brought up the issue on Discord, but I will do so again here. I'm kind of not a fan of messing with coastlines and other geographical features. I feel like messing around has a high chance to mess with certain nations who draw the short stick from this and might have to deal with unforeseen issues because the thought put into the map changes was minimal. It is in my opinion better to stick to RL geography, where any disadvantages can be blamed on the neutral reality than mess around and open a can of worms where maybe in a few months people will realise they were screwed over and they start kvetching about how the map makers are to blame, justified or not.

Also, it is far harder to determine how such features influence certain matters like climate or resources. One of the initial proposals I saw for example closed off the Sea of Japan on two sides, which not only has geostrategic impact, but also for example would mess with the currents in the area, which would mess with the climate of the area and have all sorts of consequences that are hard to work out for anyone who'd wants to get serious (or who will have to take it serious, because others feel that ignoring environmental factors is unfair).

I believe that things like canals should be permitted; but incorporating geographical changes from the getgo is likely to complicate things exponentially.

I kinda feel like if you're gonna do that just make your own map from the start.

So,  you can agree on more waterways but more landmass is not something you'd want?

Just let people dig dem canals in RP if they want more waterways. It's towards the end of the era where such were the great engineering feats like the Suez canal or the Panama canal.

Canals, yes, but I prefer we not redraw the world map except by in character effort unless it is the one we start with.
