Community,

We have been looking over a new feature and were curious about getting some input from y'all  - this new feature is Clubs!

Clubs basically allow you to create a little sub community of people that might share the same interests as you from within the forums. There can be an admin group within the club, private, closed, public - all that fun stuff. You can read some more details about it here on the IPS website, which shows some screenshots and explains how they can be used.

We had some ideas for clubs, one of which being a club that is public for new nations/members to be paired up with experienced players and receive some tips and guidance without necessarily being on the alliance track. However, we thought it would be best to bring this to the community and see what y'all thought.

So, what would you use a club for? What types of clubs do you think we should open up?

or

Are clubs necessary? Would anyone actually utilize the feature?

The OWF is an awful way of communicating information to new players. Alliance forums usually have guides and whatnot but most alliances are moving away from forums anyways and using discord as the be-all-end-all for teaching new members. I can also say, from experience, the kind of idea you have is far more convenient when done in Discord rather than on forums.

TheNG - My favorite part is when Steve suggests DEIC might have done something remotely successful, then gets massively shit on for proposing such a stupid idea.

Well TKR forums basically are the same format as PnW forums. We have clubs and we never really use them. Of course, alliance scale to game scale there is a big difference, but the only difference between a club and a subforum is that you need to request to join the club, and can be denied the request. Other than that, it acts almost exactly like a subforum, in which case I think it's better to just move this over to discord and ask people for custom channels or masks etc, since the medium of communication is much faster over there and I don't really think anyone cares to spend time on clubs when they can just message people on discord instead.

The idea of newbies just coming up and asking veterans question is genuinely a cool one, but it's widely unrealistic. I don't think any new player has the balls to open up the forums and ask a veteran a question regarding the game, or even on discord for that matter. There would honestly have to be some kind of incentive for them to do it.

Alliances usually take care of that for the most part, but we have a subforum dedicated to various guides or ways to play the game that could be very useful to the newbies if it was updated, revamped and actually ran by the mods, and maybe even including the subforum in the little tutorial on the beginning like "Oh check out this subforum, it has guides that will help you learn the game faster!" or something along the lines added to it would incentivize them to check it out in the first place.

But I mean than again, if people want clubs just to mess around than god bless em, I just don't think new players would care enough to join them instead of simply checking a subforum.

So we could have private or closed clubs? Who would control the membership access, whoever made the club, or admin? Would mods still police these clubs? Would the clubs still have to adhere to sheepy’s forum rules even if they were controlled access? This could be cool if we could escape the admin generated groupthink that occurs here now.  Otherwise why bother?

I wouldn't personally see an issue with private/closed - as the idea would be to build depth within the community. I'm not sure exactly how it would work, but personally I would like it if say someone requested a club - then we could just open it up for you and allow you to manage it - I believe it allows you to just work within your own bubble per se. I am personally not against watering down rules for clubs - I see it as a great way to allow members to portray themselves without being attacked by those that might not agree with them 100% - obviously, lets not go starting hate groups and terror cells, but you get what I mean. If I make a far right group I'd expect to maintain those right beliefs without being talked to or having my ideas misconstrued - simply because those in my club will obviously be within the same realm. I could go on and on - my personal feeling on mods going into those clubs would be just general upkeep and for more serious notes like pornography, terrorist related stuff, and OBVIOUS inappropriate behavior.

I personally like the idea of clubs because I believe the forums should have that clean - 'this is a family restaurant please don't get wasted and hit on the moms/try to recruit people to the 8th reich' - feel to them. This allows people to kinda chill in their own bubble within their own crowd. With controlled access, I don't see why rules could be relaxed.

Yeah, I'd be with Critters on this...if the rules of a private/closed club with controlled access can't be removed or I guess limited to generalized ruleset, then there really is no point and I'll just keep the talk over on discord that will most likely get me in trouble here.

TBH you can't do much on these forums without someone complaining about something related to PC culture, even if its a joke.

If you are going to make clubs, I'd open a thread that people can request a club in with a lil form if you will, then just allow them to manage the club.

-> no porn, no terrorist groups, no obviously common sense stupid shit.

If you are already thinking same rules are gonna apply, just shove the idea back up ur ass.

Already been hit on, but the forums are a bad way to communicate. IMO, it would even be better to just use in-game PMs as most newcomers don't have a forum account. Even then, they'll probably be ignored by some/most new players.

I'd like to see a gun club to see if anyone else is interested. I already know of a few others who are into/trying to get into firearms.

Already been hit on, but rules would probably have to be relaxed or people will just open up Discord groups instead. Even then, it may end up like the entire game hub that almost nobody uses.

I am currently talking with the other mods on rules for these clubs.

I have proposed a generalized rule list that is your common sense - no terrorism, pornography, nudes,  - kinda like that common sense stuff that people shouldn't engage in. I believe the club admin should be able to make their own ruleset for their club.

I will update y'all.

Hey y'all  - I made a Test Club for y'all to check out.   Go to it, its joinable and just mess around with some stuff.

If you want some admin to see what its like, just give me a shout. I think it could be a good idea for niche groups, I'd personally join the gun group.

Additionally, we can edit 'fields' that are required or not-required (but present) upon creating an alliance. You can see this field display in the header of the club. If you have ideas of what these fields should be, also - give me a shout.

I'm moving forward with this as I think its a good idea and allows a bit more freedom for members while protecting the individuals that well... you know.

Clubs are live!

Just click the club tab up top or on the sidebar and you're set to making your own club OR joining an existing one.

here are some basic rules as promised.

  • Inappropriate Imagery
    • Porn/Nudes/Shock Images - common sense. If you're mom didn't want you looking at it as a kid, it shouldn't be here.
  • Terrorism Groups
    • If you support terrorists of any type, from any year/time, you're going to have a bad time. Don't do it.
  • Nazi Groups
    • Groups that represent nazis and support nazis will not be allowed. Feel free to talk about them in discussion, but we aren't about to make a new reich here on the PW forums.
  • Hate Speech!
    • There is a think line here, most opinions today are considered 'hate speech'  - discussion is a discussion, but blatantly hating on a person or a group is gonna be against the rules. Best thing to do, make a closed club and select your audience. ;)
  • Common Sense
    • If you're creating a club, you are auto-agreeing to the common sense rule. Keep it chill, don't do anything that would normally be considered wrong in the public or in front of jesus/santa/or whatever you consider to be held to high standards. :P
