You should coordinate the replies, your leader just said "I never won awards that I didn't deserve and I'm very butthurt about this so I rigged the poll to win everything... but this has no meaning, I don't care at all about the winner, I swear!"

EMC rigged one poll, the one for the name of the Trail of Tiers, and I'm still mad because Roq Bottom was a better name

I don't really care what Roquentin said. This doesn't have to be fair or tit for tat. If you want to do a different kind of contest, it could have been darts or we could have rolled dice or we could have selected names out of a hat. As for whether it's rigging...

As I said last time you asked, I am but a humble retiree.  Like many retirees, I do believe in the importance of voting though :)

We violated no rules I'm aware of and as far as I know (since I can't actually see who voted for who) every vote has been cast by a member of PW in good standing.  And actually, I think Sval is a funny guy, CS is an honourable AA and Seeker has done some good work in GoG and apparently a fair number of people agree with me.  If you disagree, that is your prerogative - you can vote for someone else and if enough people agree with you, they'll win the category.  What isn't your prerogative is to try to nullify my vote because you don't think that my choices are correct.  Every person who has voted has just as much right to do so as you or I and, quite honestly, it's pretty elitist to suggest otherwise because you disagree with the votes they've chosen to cast. When Syndi-OO dominated voting (in 2016 for example) I don't recall these kinds of objections being raised, which calls into question what exactly you mean by the 'spirit' that is currently being violated by our members voting.

You know, traditionally 'vote rigging' means doing stuff like stuffing ballot boxes with fake ballots, intentionally preventing people who don't support you from voting and refusing to count votes against your candidate.  As far as I know, no one (including Roq) has done any of these things, so you can't really credibly accuse us rigging the vote.  We are encouraging our members to vote, but that's called 'participating,' which really isn't the same thing.

Lmao, what sane person do you think you're fooling with all this bullshit rhetoric? Ya'll coordinated your voting efforts to lock up all categories, majority of which you shouldn't even be nominated for. Blah blah blah I'm EMC and butt hurt, bullshit, any sane person would say that the voting so far is just complete rubbish and embarrassing. There are people and alliances here that rightfully deserve these awards and you guys totally !@#$ed them over.

PS: You've locked up controversial player so you can put the campaign to rest.

Sorry, but I thought the mechanism for determining who "rightfully deserves" any of these awards was the vote.

If you feel that other people deserve the awards, then you're free to vote accordingly.  As it happens, I disagree, so we'll have to let the voters decide the matter.

I wasn't aware we were putting a gun to anyone's head to vote one way or another.  People are more than entitled to vote however they want (not like we would know anyways since it's not public).

~snip~ (because I'm not actually referring to what you said)

From my point of view I would strongly encourage you and everyone else involved in the organization of these votings to scrap the entire awards. It's obvious that people like Roquentin do not appreciate the work you've put in this in the slightest and that they're completely unable to show any kind of respect towards the hours you've invested in it. If they're going to whine about it being scrapped, then who cares? They have decided to be completely inconsiderate so why should you be considerate?

If you decide to keep the whole thing going I still encourage you to scrap the "Funniest player" voting and award the price in a non-democratic (but realistic) way to Zeebrus.

Having joined the game only about six months ago, I was hoping for a bit more in these awards. Of course I'm not an idiot who thought that people wouldn't vote for allied alliances/players but I didn't expect it to be taken to such extremes. I'm sorry your work was treated with such disrespect and I thank you for the effort you put into this event. Regardless of the outcome in the end.

So completely eliminate the community aspect? You're literally suggesting to award it based on your opinion. Personally I don't find Zeebrus funny, so how is it realistic? If you think Zeebrus is the most funny in the community vote for them.

Easy fix guys, don't worry about it. Change the topic title to "Worst Alliance Category Voting - Official" and change the sub headers from Best to Worst, and from Most to Least and suddenly everything is 100% correct. 2018 Awards saved!

So basically you're arguing that the vote should be scrapped and an award given to the candidate you prefer because someone else has recieved more votes?  On what basis do you think your opinion is more valid than the dozens of people who didn't vote for your favorite candidate? Why should their vote not count, while yours should?  That's literally the opposite of 'one person, one vote' which is the whole basis on this poll.

As for the rest, all we've done is encourage our members to participate which, if anything, is a validation of the work put in by the organisers (you're welcome). Just because you apparently disagree with the choices our members have made doesn't make their opinions any less valid than your own.

the issue isnt that IQ is winning the polls or whatever. it’s that we all can’t set aside our political differences for literally a couple forum threads to just vote who we think is best deserving. i think it’s pretty obvious IQ doesn’t even believe their own votes are the best choices in many of the categories

yes, EMC has done the same thing before. no, that doesn’t mean IQ doing it this year now gives them a free pass

usually people say “this is why we can’t have nice things” as a joke, but im being completely serious when i say this. we as a community are unable to set aside our IC/OOC drama to do something fun together. yes, it’s a competition. no, it really doesn’t matter that much if you win or lose.

im aware im guilty of doing the same thing as well, but i’m more disappointed than anything atm that something that was supposed to be fun has devolved into this

edit: telling your members to go out and vote their conscience? that’s a load of shit and you know it. you told them who to vote for and if you say otherwise that’s a lie and you know it

If they believe that whoever they voted for should be who should win that category then who are you to say their vote shouldn't count and be discredited?  Like I said before, people have the opportunity to literally vote for whoever they want to vote for in the poll.  This isn't a straw poll in which people can spam it.  These are individual people who are entitled to their own beliefs and they are expressing them in the poll.  Not sure why that's even a problem.

Um, it's kind of presumptuous to suggest that you know the minds of voters better than they do because you don't agree with their preferences. People vote for lots of people for lots of reasons - just because you think someone is more deserving doesn't mean someone else does, nor are you necessarily measuring that person by the same yardstick they are.  That's why we have votes - if we didn't disagree on who the best choice was, we wouldn't need to hold a vote at all.

So your plan to throw in a few marginal candidates along with the players and alliances you wanted to win backfired on you? Poor babies.

y’all nominated them, im only contending that the fact that it’s obvious votes were coordinated so that only people in IQ would win.

because it just so happens that the majority of people in the community find Sval hilarious? if that was the case then you’d think people on both sides would agree with you. or that people on both sides find Thantos to be the best community addition..oh wait that isnt the case. nobody has heard of him besides GoG

can confirm. nice to see the hours it took to put all the polls together (this is not an exaggeration) are just being rigged by Roq and his cronies.

nice to see a fun community activity was treated as something political

at least some people appreciate it.

So since when is exercising our ability to vote for whoever we choose considered "rigging" and "unappreciative" and since when is defending our freedom of choice by our own opinion from the attacks here on forums considered making it "political" ?? Seems the only ones making it political are the ones whining about it being rigged and throwing out these big conspiracy theories about how or why it might be rigged.

lmao okay next time you can waste hours of your life setting up polls for people who aren’t going to take it seriously and are just going to vote for people who aren’t deserving of it

by doing what you did you ruined it for people who may actually have wanted to see people who deserved it win

just a thought, since you obviously didnt think about anyone but yourself and how you can “get back at EMC”

Seriously? As if these other people you speak of who I'm sure are voting for themselves or their allies is any more objective? Obviously the matter of who deserves the award is decided by the one who gets the most votes, so how can you say that any other who didn't win by vote deserves it? They clearly don't deserve it if they fail to win the vote, now do they? You're just speaking from your own flawed personal views and opinion which I do not share.

So you're going to pretty much disregard my (and several others as well) vote and personal opinion on who I find more humor in all because you're apparently hurt that someone who you find more humor in that I didn't isn't winning, just in order to give them the win? That's lame and pretty messed up and that is the perfect example of a rigged poll.

Tip @ EMC posters from an old friend: This is not doing you a lot of favors. You're coming across as rather ...petty....

Yes. IQ probably coordinated its effort. No, this is not much different from things your sphere has done in the past, though it is at a more organized scale it seems.

No, it does not matter much in the bigger scheme of things. It's a voting contest. Everyone gets 1 vote. From there... there's no stipulations. Maybe look at improving the regulations and process next time. But for this year... just roll with it, is my advice.

Small correction.

Mensa coordinated votes on themselves during polls (At least the early ones after we started up and had 50+ members).  I think TKR coordinated theirs one year too, but beyond that - that was the only coordinated stuff.

So yes, we're guilty of it, but not as a sphere.  That was also before Sheepy decided to give awards to players who won the votes.

However, I honestly care less about the votes.  It's amusing.

Hm, I do think a bigger fuss is being made about this than it deserves.

These votes have been popularity contests every year, and have been stuffed by whichever alliance or group of alliances wanted to win stuff at the time and put in effort. The first year it was tS, Mensa and OO, then last year it was TKR and tS, and now it seems IQ is trying to get themselves some awards. Were people unhappy with who won every year? Absolutely, I remember people complaining pretty heavily whenever someone won who they thought absolutely didn't deserve it. That's just what happens with these sorts of votes. I'd encourage anyone who wants them or their alliance win to get someone to nominate them and then get out to vote, you can absolutely win! I mean, I won worst alliance leader last year just by bugging people to vote for me, and managed to unseat some tough competition. If TKR members want TKR to win, you guys should get people out to vote! Message your fellow members, remind people why you think TKR, or any nominee, earned their top spot this year. All you have to do is try!

And regardless, not winning isn't a massive loss. If Zeebrus doesn't win "Funniest Player", that doesn't mean they aren't funny or well-liked by a lot of people, and I'm sure all those who believe that now won't change their minds! So yeah, please don't cancel the awards, that's just cutting off the nose to spite the face. I can assure you guys a lot of people are having fun with these, I'm eagerly awaiting the "Worst" category so I can campaign and defend my title! The effort is really appreciated, and clearly a lot of activity has been sparked by these, which is great! Letting anyone ruin the fun is just doing a disservice to yourself and all those who are having a good time.

I mean, when Kastor ran the awards last year, he didn't throw a fit and cancel them because people voted him "Worst Player" or "Worst Forum Poster". It's not too often I say this, but everyone should be more like Kastor in this situation. Get out and let people know, have some fun with these. After all, they're only once a year! :D

Just goes to show how interesting this game is when the most controversial thing we have to divide ourselves is unsportsmanlike activities in a popularity contest.
