With this post i do not support the actions of Islamic State but i wish for everyone to discuss how they are able to pull of this seemingly impossible victory even though they are in effect against the whole world.

TIL: The Syrian Army in Palmyra == The whole world.

Calling this a seemingly impossible victory is like saying that Brazil scored a seemingly impossible (consolation)goal within the last minute of the 2014 FIFA semi finals.

Yea you got one goal(Palmyra), it doesn't change the fact that you're down by 6(Dabiq(MUH APOCALYPSE), Sinjar, Kirkuk, Ramadi, Fallujah,Kobani ect... ) with less than a minute to go.

The Islamic State are competent fighters and are well-armed. Until they're completed defeated, they're still going to have victories.

With the loss of Aleppo for Syrian opposition forces, the tide of the Syrian Civil War sways even more in the regime's favor. Once Aleppo is pacified, security forces will target other areas and pacify them as well- it's a domino affect that's not likely to change as the upcoming Trump administration isn't going to stand by the rebels nearly as much as the Obama administration has, and the Obama administration hasn't really done a whole lot anyways to aid the rebels.

Once the opposition is dealt with, Syria will dedicate all their resources to taking out the Islamic State- even more pressure will be applied onto the terror group.

The Islamic State has their days numbered. They won a decent victory with taking backing Palmyra, but it's meaningless in the broad, long-term scale.

The Syrian Army is busy in Aleppo right now.  They have always played "kid gloves" with ISIS, preferring to kill US-backed militias.  Once they finish Aleppo, they'll get the rest of Syria in hand.  The Syrian Civil War is nearly over.  Barring major intervention at the last minute by Obama, Syria is back in Assad's hands now.
