Administrators Popular Post Alex Posted June 16, 2016 Administrators Popular Post Share Posted June 16, 2016 Hey all, You should be pleased to hear that I've refactored how the game verifies that it is, in fact, a person accessing the site and not a bot/script. Instead of making you enter a captcha for every baseball game, I've expanded the click-tracking mechanism that existed previously in trading to cover the entirety of the site. What many of you may find is that, if you're not a heavy baseball player or trader, you'll very rarely have to do a captcha to verify your humanity. For some who never played baseball or traded (is that possible?) you'll be forced to complete a captcha more than previously, but still not very often. Even better, when you're forced to do a captcha it will redirect you back to the page you were previously on. How convenient is that? This should be another simple quality of life improvement for players while still maintaining our defense against cheaters using bots to gain an unfair advantage in the game. Of lesser note, I've updated the City API page so that the improvement names match the improvement names in the upcoming City Templates (see: the imp_ prefix.) Additionally, you'll notice some cleaner buttons on the Baseball and Trade pages. The Infra Cost Calculator has also been changed so that it calculates infra purchases slightly more optimally, and will show cheaper values now than it did previously. Lastly, hopefully you've noticed the site is running faster than it was previously. Ss23 and I have been refactoring the database so that the game operates far more efficiently and is using less space than before. Enjoy! 15 Is there a bug? Administrators Alex Posted June 16, 2016 Author Administrators Share Posted June 16, 2016 Because someone will probably ask: I did intentionally leave the captcha on the war declaration page, because some players were using scripts to automatically declare war on players as soon as they left Beige. The current system is better configured to discourage trade/baseball botting, but is not particularly effective against something like a War Declaration bot that just needs to do one action. Yosodog
I've already been flagged as a bot just by looking at war stats Does this affect things like scraping? I've got quite a few things that scrape for information not included in any APIs for example bank transactions, tax records, and war stats. I see the point of having captchas for things like declaring war, trading, baseball games, etc, but for everything seems a bit excessive. Edit: Just ran my war stats script and got a bunch of errors. Logged in and had to complete the captcha. Pls Alex, for the love of god, don't take away my stats scripts Edited June 16, 2016 by Yosodog [22:37:51] <&Yosodog> Problem is, everyone is too busy deciding which top gun character they are that no decision has been made BK in a nutshell

Fiadon Clevae
This is great news seems though so many of the captchas I've been getting lately have been quite inaccurate, eg. apparently 'store front' is synonymous for 'anything that resembles a building'. Also it often seems to think roads are rivers. How are these captchas even made?

Chapsie
It'd be nice if I a robot could figure out these captchas. Ryleh
The captchas are a problem honestly. Easy now to have a script that does baseball. You can just have it run, when it encounters a captchas, just go back a page, problem solved for the script.

Yeah, it'll be back to 101 people trying to host baseball games at the same time. At least prior to the reduced winnings, it was actually worthwhile playing away games.
