Clearly need a flag with Mjolnir in a storm cloud and the Lightning resembling two S letters I think just to see some more faux outrage.

remember that these are the people who were arguing against me earlier under the auspices of not being right-wingers who just want to see the nazis get to stay

If I actually thought your opinion had any value I might actually put some effort into my replies towards you.

As is, you are OOC attacking a new alliance that is using a dumbass rune because "nazis used it" when the alliance has no connection to nazis, expresses no sympathy with nazis and actively denies being tied with nazis.

I bet you see woman that wear knee high boots and call them nazis cause nazis wore them.

P.S I'm voting for Trump, bye.

yeah tell me more about how you don't like OOC attacks

This is the flag I created in about 15 mins or so. I'm no Photoshop master, so I went with something simple. I'm still working on it tho.

Thats awfully similar to the NiR war flag :P

I like it! you could borrow ours if you wanted too, asuming Odin agreed.

you sure do know how to use a lot of words to say very little.

The irony. It hurts so good.

Welcome and congratulations on your founding, Ragnarok! Looking forward to working with you in the future!

One must imagine Sisyphus happy.

I suppose everyone is a right winger compared to you.

flattering, but reality is that i've a lot to learn

i'm pretty sure the nazis are to the right wing of just about everybody, though

love the way you just twist that around to avoid the point

won't be replying again because holy shit this thread is about ragnarok not hereno

I've never understood why Ragnarok themed alliances never include fire and ice themes, that's the whole theme to Ragnarok, the world ending in fire and ice

I feel like people choose it as a common name due to the cool factor - when really they want a viking alliance theme.

Nordic symbols were used, so of course Hereno has to pop in and accuse everyone of being a Nazi..... C'mon Hereno. I actually find it insulting that you equate runes to Nazis. Especially when this is clearly a Viking theme.

No, I'm not. I just don't think everything with a rune is the product of Nazis. In fact, I'm not even sure what exactly made you assume there was anything Nazi about this. I saw your initial response where you pointed out that the Odal was used by an SS division, however, the SS used tons and tons of runes in their symbolism. I'd be surprised if there is a rune or Nordic symbol they didn't use.

For example, here is a list of the Waffen SS divisions along with the patches/markings they used to symbolize each division:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Waffen-SS_divisions

38 in all and I'd say about half of them are symbolized with runes. But that doesn't even scratch the surface of the Nazis use of runes. So it can't just be the rune that makes you think this is Nazi. Perhaps it's the colors? Unfortunately, red white and yellow have been the colors of Norway almost forever. In fact, making the flag look more traditionally Norwegian would actually make it look even more Nazi, with the cross and all. So what else? The white circle over a red backdrop? That's just a typical leftist symbol, used by not only Nazis, but also Bolsheviks and even Latin Americans from northern California:

Nortenos.jpg

^This flag is flown primarily by Mexicans in Northern California and has become synonymous with Nortenos. Considering I know a few, I think I can safely say there is nothing Nazi about them.

So where exactly is all the Nazism in this?

We've been getting along lately and I'd rather not spoil that, but I really do find it insulting the way you attack people for using runes. I have a great appreciation for the Vikings, their culture and history and I hate seeing their symbolism equated to Nazism. NoR is different. They actually use Nazi imagery and their alliance incorporates many German "Reich" themes, but I think you're going a bit overboard with this one.

if you think half of those are runes, you don't know runes.

i see celtic crosses, several odals, and a few swastikas (which are not runes).

you want things to be one way, but they're another way. i don't know what else to tell you. you're just wrong.

I picked out at least 10 runes and numerous other Nordic symbols. But like I said, that doesn't even scratch the surface of the Nazis use of runes and Nordic symbols. The swastika (Hakencreuz) is a variant of a sun cross or sun wheel often used by numerous pagan cultures from all over the globe, despite the common misconception that it was stolen from Hinduism. The origin of the Hakencruez is explained in Mein Kampf. Although not a rune, it can safely be described as being heavily inspired by Nordic symbolism.

The Nazis used runes all the time. Quite possibly all the runes there are. The seal of Ahnenerebe has the division name written entirely in runes. Even furniture in Nazi Germany was decorated with runes. Do you even understand how much inspiration the Nazis took from Nordic symbolism? It effectively makes up half or more of their all of their symbolism. Do you think Volks Wagons are Nazi too?

As for the Odal rune, it's true meaning is the "o" sound and a symbol of heritage and comes in several variations. It is still in use today by the modern German Army. Although the "winged" version displayed in the OPs flag was first created by the Nazis it is very commonly used by Neo-Pagans who worship Odin with no relation to Nazism.

okay, so basically...

the nazis frequently used the same sort of symbolism from this time period in their propaganda

they created the rune on the flag themselves and gave it a whole different, nationalist meaning (heritage)

we are aware that this rune in particular has been reappropriated in these games as a stand-in for the swastika by white supremacists

we are aware that these people play this game and have re-used nazi propaganda in recent years, which was subsequently banned thanks to the efforts of decent people who play this game

...and you're STILL arguing that there's no connection whatsoever. like i said, fox fire, you can have your head in the sand all you want, i will continue with my lack of support of people who would have you murdered irl if they ever took power, and there's no amount of reading mein kampf that's going to stop me.

done talking about it. if you're not convinced by now, i can't be bothered to convince you.

No, the Odal rune has ALWAYS symbolized meanings like heritage, higher social status and the like. The Nazis did not re-invent it's meaning by any means. It has always meant the same thing. Similar to the Wolfsangel, also heavily used by Nazis, which would be more of a nationalist symbol and has always maintained it's meaning.

I'm also aware that the Sun Cross is used by white supremacists, but to me and my heritage, it symbolizes the mother goddess or "God" and always will. It's a symbol that even my family uses and they certainly are not Nazis.

But off the topic of symbols.... Who here is a Nazi? I mean I have no doubt that the rank of NoR would contain Nazis, but I'm also sure that not all of them are Nazis. In fact, I'm inclined to believe most (nowadays) aren't. Though I'm also probably not as familiar with their members or other Nazis in these games as you may be.... So I'm just curious, who is a Nazi here?

I mean I'm actually more inclined to believe that RL Nazis playing this game are most often members of alliances that have nothing to do with Nazism. Hell, we had some devout Nazi in The Sith Empire for a while along with the other variations of the same group under numerous names that had nothing to do with Nazism. Which brings me to my next point, which is that RP is not RL. If someone was RPing as a Nazi, I wouldn't immediately think they were a RL Nazi. I mean, I've RP'd as a communist, an anarchist and a capitalist.

In any case, I think you're jumping the gun on this one.

I personally thought that having a Black Heimdall was ridiculous, Americans are so funny in that they try so hard to be viewed as non-racist, but in so doing they just prove how racist they are. Well perhaps not "racist", more like "racially-obsessed", in the same league as South Africa. They haven't learned from Europe that the way to defeat racism is actually by stop caring so much about it. Northern Europe has basically bred tribalism and racialism out of the collective consciousness. American liberals think that they can defeat all intolerance by taking small divisions in society and then turning them into a canyon so everybody hates each other (gender wars, race wars, etc).

I thought a black heimdall was about as ridiculous as making a movie based on a marvel comic about a nordic god with a magic hammer. If you can have a magic flying hammer then why not a black heimdall?
