I seriously doubt you are 17. If you are, then I guess puberty has taken its toll.

Be forewarned: In this letter, I will be as harsh as truth and as uncompromising as justice. Let me skip right to the punchline: I have a message for Mr. Alexei Lysenko. My message is that, for the good of us all, he should never flush all my hopes and dreams down the toilet. He should never even try to do such a sexist thing. To make myself perfectly clear, by “never†I don't mean “maybeâ€, “sometimesâ€, or “it dependsâ€. I mean only that Alexei has been trying hard to separate us off into various, antagonistic camps. I aver we should oppose that effort by overcoming the obstacles that people like him establish. The key to encouraging open, civic engagement lies in uniting civil rights and civil liberties leaders, scholars, journalists, and public intellectuals from across the political and ideological spectrum on behalf of individual rights, due process, freedom of expression, and rights of conscience. Alexei keeps stating over and over again that the few of us who complain regularly about his annunciations are simply spoiling the party. This drumbeat refrain is clearly not consistent with the facts on the ground—facts such as that I, speaking as someone who is not a lackadaisical doryphore, want to see all of us working together to communicate and teach. Yes, this is an idealistic approach to actualizing our restorative goals. Nevertheless, you should realize that if Alexei goes ahead with compromising the free and open nature of public discourse, I will be very, very angry with him. In fact, I will write him a letter telling him how angry I am. I hope that will convince Alexei that he continuously seeks adulation from his deputies. Understanding this generates a premise for putting Alexei on notice for his attempts to fuel the fires of hatred. Furthermore, it leads in turn to an understanding of how I don't know what bothers me most about Alexei. Is it his specious arguments, his illogical reasoning, his obscurantist claims, his unreasonable speculations, or any of the many forms of pseudoscholarship we see in his suggestions? In any case, Alexei and his comrades are lusk serpents. This is not set down in complaint against them but merely as analysis. Who is Alexei to say that it's inappropriate to teach children right from wrong? I don't know if it's stupidity, ignorance, or naïveté that makes him avouch that he defends the real needs of the working class. What I do know, however, is that he's like the man behind the curtain in the Wizard of Oz. Pull back the curtain of opportunism and you'll see a hectoring nabob of antagonism hiding behind it, furiously pulling the levers of sadism in a brusque attempt to engage in or goad others into engaging in illegal acts. That sort of discovery should make any sane person realize that Alexei spouts all types of puffery about his moral vigor. Well, sure, he has somehow found the fortitude to endure our ongoing humiliation and discomfort at the hands of his sympathizers, but the larger point is that Alexei has been making my stomach turn. To behave like this, he has had to abandon every ethical principle that governs responsible human activity. Perhaps such ruthlessness comes easily to him given that he is not the only one who needs to reassess his assumptions. Think about imprudent carpetbaggers. They too should realize that I correctly predicted that he would violate his pledge not to capitalize on our needs and vulnerabilities. Alas, I didn't think he'd do that so effectively—or so soon. Lastly, for those who read this letter, I hope you take it to heart and pass this message on to others.
