LENNOXANNI (Orbis 2 August 2004) — Athretvars across the nation celebrated yesterday after Minister of Cities Mor Freima announced the completion of major construction operations in Athretvari’s seventh great city-state on the northern coast of the Indonese island of Sumatra.

Just southwest of the Swedish East-Asian colony of Singapore, Lennoxanni will serve as the capital of Athretvari’s newly acquired Natural Territories.

Strategically located at the southern end of the Straits of Malacca, the city has been designated as a major Athretvar trading center with Narvan, Sweden, Khevin, and most of the other nations located in South Azia, Afreca, and Europa.

Minister of Cities AG Mor Freima attended celebrations in Lennoxanni after announcing the city-state’s “openingâ€.

Minister of Cities AG Mor Freima said that to enhance ongoing efforts to improve relations between Athretvari, Narvan, and Nova Scotia; Narvanese- and Nova Scotian-flagged vessels have been granted special permission to utilize, as if they were domestically-flagged vessels, Lennoxanni’s anchorages, harbors, docks and warehousing facilities for the conduct of trade. He also noted that both countries were invited to utilize the city for joint maritime and air patrols and security operations with Athretvari in the waters and air-spaces of the Hindian Ocean.

As Athretvari is currently at peace, the city will be defended by 12 thousand soldiers, a thousand tanks, 72 aircraft, and 12 warships. Additional Athretvar Defense Forces bases and facilities have been constructed for the ready call up of reservists to fully arm and defend the city in event of an emergency.

MARIA (Orbis 7 August 2003) — The Athretvar Defense Forces confirmed today to RCBC that the ADF Missile Corps had conducted a successful test of the Scimitar CORBM-A1, a new three-stage long-range conventional ballistic missile built by ADIG Rocket Systems, that the government in Maria says will help strengthen the nation's defense posture.

An unclassified infographic of the Scimitar CORBM-A1 released by the ADF Missile Corps.

The new missile, estimated to cost the government Athretvar ¥19.5 million when including materials and fuel, is classified by some defense industry analysts as an offensive weapon. It was tested at the ADF's newly constructed ¥1.1 billion Cabo Carnival National Missile & Rocket Laboratories and Launch Facilities in the southern citystate of La Mencia.

The ADF stated that in line with Athretvari's official foreign policy of neutrality and non-aggression, the Scimitar system, while subjectively classified as an offensive weapon, is strictly intended to be utilized as a defensive deterrent and that like all other Athretvar defenses, will only be deployed against hostile nations that have initiated armed conflict against Athretvari.

MARIA (Orbis 26 April 2002) — Georgio Clunei was today appointed Athretvari’s first ambassador to the Empire of Narvan, the Ministry of Foreign Interactions announced.

Mr Clunei has recently served as national Infrastructure, Industries and Energy minister for nearly two years after he assumed the role of chief minister of the City of Julia from 1997 to 1998. He was Julia’s minister of Infrastructure from 1990 to 1995 and vice-chief minister of the city from 1995 to 1997.

Mr Clunei graduated and received his doctorate in Civil Engineering from National University in Maria in 1985.

He is married to Hasmin Al-Abda Clunei, founder and chairwoman of the Institute for the Development of Athretvar Foreign Relations, a powerful think-tank in Maria, the Athretvar news service ATR-1 reported.

Mr Clunei will receive his credentials at a ceremony at the Defenderate afterwhich he will travel to Narvan to take up his post.

Athretvari and the Empire of Narvan established diplomatic ties in January of 2002.

Mr Clunei said of the news of his appointment, “I am honored and humbled to be selected to represent Athretvari before the imperial court of Narvan. I hope to foster good, friendly, and mutually prosperous relations between our nations. And hope that our two great nations can cooperate toward insuring the peace of the greater Indian Ocean Region and Orbis."

GLORIA (Orbis 4 April 2002) — An Athretvar masterpiece worth up to 5 million Athretvar Ƀitcoin has been taken from the National Museum of Art (NMA) in Gloria, amid speculation that it may have been stolen on the order of a private collector.

The small oil painting entitled "Hungry Cat", is by Subo Figgs, an Athretvar painter from Cantos d'Aves whose mastery of light and shade has drawn comparisons with Rembrandt and Walt Disney.

It was stolen in the middle of the night from the Modern Art Hall of the National Museum of Art in the northern Opera District of Gloria earlier this morning.

The painting, completed in 1939, would be hard to resell in Athretvari because of stringent controls on stolen art works, but the thieves may try to off-load it on Orbis's notorious blackmarket, experts said.

Or it may have been stolen to order by a Bond-style criminal mastermind, one art historian at the NMA speculated.

"It may have been taken on the orders of a very rich, passionate art lover who wants to have it for himself, a bit like the head of Spectre in the 007 films," said Claus von Burns, an expert on Subo Figgs.

Victor Scarbo, a well-known Athretvar art critic, said the painting was "a monumental work and national treasure" that would be worth between five and six million Athretvar Ƀitcoin.

The theft is being investigated by officers from a specialist unit of the ADF Gendarmerie police force.

The heist of the painting has shocked the nation, the museum’s curator said. "This precious painting is part of the cultural heritage of Athretvari," said Jon Carlos Mozilla. "The theft has affected not just the museum but the whole country."

MARIA (Orbis 22 January 2002) — Citing concerns over what officials in Athretvari’s Intelligence community say was a worrying uptick in anti-neutrality chatter, the Athretvar Government buckled down on its “all in†National Defense Posture, ringing in the new year with the delivery of 72 new Ath-96/OWAc “Medusa†Omni Warfare Aircraft from the Athretvari Defense Aerospace Corporation (ADAC).

Defender Tyro Leif, along with Admiral Saner Orkala, Chief of the Staff of the Athretvar Defense Forces (ADF), and Air-General Yila Kameri accepted the four new squadrons of aircraft on behalf of the ADF Air Corps at a military ceremony at ADF-AC Maria Airbase Gamma.

The ceremony also included the delivery of 500 new Ath-80/MBT “Tigra†main battle tanks to the ADF Tank Corps.

After inspecting a new Tigra tank and Medusa aircraft, Defender Leif spoke to a gathering of the ADF’s senior staff, ADAC employees, and journalists. He addressed the government’s continued commitment to its “all in†defensive posture, saying in response to a question—

“... We are saddened by the renewed threats against the general peace of Orbis. Our neutrality is national policy and irrespective of our alliance. We do not commit destructive offensive warfare out of respect for our fellow nations, not out of weakness or indifference...

“... While we harbor no illusions we may overturn or deter any act of aggression against Athretvari, we can guarantee that it will be a net-loss for the aggressor...

“... In so far as we should lose our treasure and resources in any event of a war against us, we make it so we hold nothing, except the steel in our tanks and ships, the alum in our jets, and the lead in our munitions...â€

The Defender said there was little that could deter masochists or warmongers, but he hoped the "more reasonable, yet still dreaded pirates of Orbis seven seas would realize Athretvari was nothing more than a bitter, little nation, a waste of time and money and sail toward easier, and plumper prey."

MARIA (Orbis 20 November 2001) — The Government of Athretvari and the players of the nation's beloved baseball team, the Jellyfish, gave special thanks today to three WTF teams that often visit and play away games at Athretvari's famed Stingray Stadium to the thrill and excitement of Athretvari's many rabid OBL fans.

Jellyfish management commissioned the Athretvar National Mint to create original logos for the three teams as a special thank you for, as Jellyfish General Manager Clive Owen was eager to tell this reporter, "... Being super-sports and moving the games along by playing away games and not just hosting them!"

The logo designs will be displayed and stored indefinitely on the Athretvar National Archives web server, so any of the teams desiring to use their logo can either reference the "gothamloki.com" URL, or download it to their own site for future use.

Cooper Pennywise, Director of the Athretvar National Mint told RCBC that for logos such as the ones created for the Falcons, Panzers, and Super Sluggers the Mint would normally charge $1 to 2 million, but the Jellyfish so appreciate the efforts of these teams to make the long journey to Athretvari and playing at Stingray Stadium that the Jellyfish commissioned the logos as gifts to each of the visiting teams.

In other news, Athretvari has completed construction of rapid mass transit systems and nuclear energy power plants in each of its six cities.

MARIA (Orbis 12 October 2000) — The Government of Athretvari and the players of the nation's beloved baseball team, the Jellyfish, also known as the Felandia Athletics Batting-Practice Targets, gave special thanks today to those OBL teams displaying what soon-to-retire Jellyfish star-pitcher James Earl Jones called "exceptional sportsmanship," and have gratiously visited Stingray Stadium to the thrill of the nation's sports fans.

As a show of gratitude to those OBL teams making the long effort to visit Stingray Stadium, the Government of Athretvari authorized the National Mint to design team logos for each team that doesn't yet sport one.

Abraham Jensen, a spokeman at the National Mint said, "We weren't giving much information to work with except the team names and maybe some colors from their flag. We know these may not exactly represent the vision the teams might have had of their logos, but we hope they appreciate our desire to thank them for playing away games at Stingray Stadium."

"The logos will be hosted indefinitedly on the Athretvar Archives web-server, so should any of the teams desire to actually use their logo, they can simply use the "gothamloki" url or download the logo and then store it to their own image-host."

The Jellyfish often travel around the globe to play other OBL teams, but many of those same teams never reciprocate the effort to the disappointment of Athretvari's many OBL fans desiring to attend and watch live games at Stingray Stadium.

Jellyfish management became so upset with the unequal scheduling of some teams they approached senior government officials in an effort to thank those teams that do often visit Athretvari to play. They also released a snarky ad during one of their away games visiting one the most notorious offending teams before pulling it.

RCBC was able to save the ad before it was pulled.

None of RCBC's numerous inquiries asking about the ad to Jellyfish management and the Athretvar government were returned.

MARIA (Orbis 26 April 1999) — After careful consideration, the Council of Supervisors and the Council of Ministers have agreed to a major initiative to reconfigure the national energy production system from coal-base to wind-base.

In February of 1999, the Council of Supervisors instructed the Department of Energy (DOE) within the Ministry of Infrastructure to conduct a thorough study of the effects of continued utilization of coal-based power, and to investigate the possible utilization of alternative forms of energy.

At the end of March 1999, the DOE’s Office of Special Projects (OSP) completed the study and investigation, issuing a report recommending the reconfiguration of the nation’s power-production system from coal-base to wind-base, citing greater advantages than disadvantages in doing so.

Pollution can be easily seen rising from the Magdalena City Coal Power Plant.
Coal-based power currently accounts for 100% of Athretvari's energy needs.

The OSP noted that coal-based power generation requires at minimum 2 city-improvement slots for every 500-infra of energy generation—one slot for a coal-powered plant, and one for a coal mine to support the power plant. The coal-powered plant and the coal mine together contribute 14 pollution points and cost overall $1600 per day to operate.

In contrast, wind-based power generation for every 500-infra also requires 2 city-improvement slots, one for each wind-based power plant capable of powering up to 250-infra. However, the wind-based power plants contribute zero points to pollution and cost overall only $1000 per day to operate. OSP noted that the primary disadvantage of wind-based power generation versus coal-based lie almost exclusively in wind’s much higher upfront investment cost, being $24,000 and 25 aluminum higher than building a coal-based power plant and its associated coal mine.

The OSP also noted that wind-based power plants permitted more flexible energy generation extendability. For example, in order for the capital city of Maria to grow it requires an expansion of its current power infrastructure. If coal is selected over wind, it will require the city to purchase a minimum of 200-infrastructure to acquire 4 city-improvement slots in order to make the expansion immediately meaningful. Two slots would be needed solely for a new coal-based power plant and a new coal mine. Whereas if the city decided to utilize wind, it would only need to purchase 100-infrastructure to acquire 2 city-improvement slots, using one slot for a new wind-based power plant, leaving one slot open for another type of improvement.

In the capital city of MARIA, the OSP recommends the closure of the Capital City Coal Power Plant, the Monarch Coal Mine, and the Jeanne d’Arc Coal Mine to create 3 open city-improvement slots. The OSP report further recommends the reconfiguration of the 3 open city-improvement slots to 2 wind-based power plants and 1 supermarket for a total cost of $65000 and 50 aluminum.

OSP notes that by choosing wind over coal the capital city of Maria will decrease its pollution by 20 points, gain a 4% increase in commerce, and save $400 per day in operational costs.

In the city of MAGDALENA, the OSP recommends the closure of the Magdalena City Coal Power Plant and the Irt District Supermarket to create 2 open city-improvement slots to be used for the installation of 2 wind-based power plants for a total cost of $60000 and 50 aluminum.

By choosing wind over coal, Magdalena will decrease its pollution by 8 points and save $800 per day in operational costs. However, it will also experience a 4% decrease in commerce.

Overall, by choosing wind over coal, Athretvari will decrease pollution by 28 points and lower operational costs by $1200 per day while having a minimal effect on the nation’s economy. Total costs for the reconfiguration are $125000 direct investment, plus 100 aluminum @ $1930 each for a grand total of $318000, being 154.25 infrastructure @ current price of $2061.50 each, or just over 3 city-improvement slots at current price.

MARIA — In honor and commemoration of Athretvari’s ascension to the Green Protection Agency alliance, the alliance’s second RL anniversary, and the founding of Athretvari's second great city of Magdalena, the Athretvar Ministry of Treasury announced during a lavish ceremony at the Athretvar National Mint the unveiling of a rare collectors’ edition Orbis 1999 two-dollar coin.

An image of the new Athretvar 2-dollar coin commemorating the nation's ascension to the GPA and the founding of the City of Magdalena.

The coin was designed to mark Athretvari’s acceptance into the alliance in a rare ten-thousand unit minting that will produce coins with a face-value of only $2, but will have an actual metallurical value of nearly $20 each.

Each coin is struck from two alloys of aluminum native to Athretvari’s far-western volcanic Grande Terre region. The inner core of the coin reflects a metallic green, a distinct property of Athretvar North Grande Terre alumi-alloy, while the coin’s ridge and embossed markings are forged from silvery Ile Ouest alumi-alloy polished to maximize the capture of light and shine brightly.

Khevin Szei, Director of the National Mint’s Sales Office said the coin “reflects the enthusiasm felt throughout Athretvari. 1999 has been a momentous year for our small country. We have emerged from several decades of foreign occupation, colonialism, and ethnic oppression, and then most recently ten years of an oftentime brutal armed resistance for independence. We followed this great achievement with our acceptance to the GPA and the founding of our second great city.â€

Mr Szei said the Mint decided to use the rare alumi-alloys for the coin specifically for their vibrant colors, noting the GPA’s colors are green and white. â€We wanted a coin that not only honored Athretvari, but also commemorated the GPA’s second RL anniversary this December.â€

The new coins won’t be distributed for general circulation, but are available to collectors through the National Mint’s sales office.

Mr Szei also said the Mint has plans to offer its currency design, minting and printing services to the nations of Orbis in the near future once it receives Athretvar government authorization, which is expected to include provisions giving members of the GPA “preferred alliance-client†discounts and special options.

MARIA — After nearly a decade of nationalist tensions and relentless armed resistance that claimed thousands of lives over the years, Tyro Leif, leader of the Athretvar National Liberation Committee (ANLC) took to the air waves yesterday to declare the signing of an historic peace treaty acknowledging and accepting Athretvari's independence, and formally ending hostilities between Maria and its former colonial oppressors in the Southern Indian Ocean Region (SIOR).

The ANLC, a broad coalition of armed ethnic Athretvar rebel groups and liberation organizations led by General Leif, has appointed him chairman of the National Provisional Government and Defender-of-the-Realm, the nation's highest military officer and supreme commander of the armed defense and security forces.

GPA Headquarters, Amazon — Ministress of Foreign Interactions Naavia Kihr met with top officials from the Green Protection Agency to formally sign Athretvari’s ascension treaty to the alliance.

Beginning her new role as a governing ministress in earnest, the former Lieutenant General in the Athretvar National Liberation Committee travelled to GPA headquarters in the Amazon to initiate Athretvari’s diplomatic and security relations.

“As a small and developing nation, Athretvari must take every opportunity to forge and strengthen its relations with a reliable and respected alliance such as the GPA. We are impressed with the strong sense of community and its sincere desire to assist its membership develop.â€

The Athretvar government chose to apply for membership within the GPA because the alliance exposes a clearly defined philosophy of defensive neutrality, a philosophy strongly shared by the nation’s leadership back home in Maria, which is focused on getting the nation off to a proper start after recently achieving independence from the nation’s former colonial masters.

After signing the ascension agreement, Ministress Kihr also requested and then accepted an alliance aid package in the form of a $1 million city construction and infrastructure grant. The alliance leadership quickly moved on the grant request, the funds of which, Athretvar officials have confirmed to Red Castle, will be managed by the Ministry of Infrastructure and used for the construction of the city of Magdalena.

The new city will be located on the northern shores of Grande Terre island. It will be the location of new lead and coal mines, and the center of Athretvari’s new Ammoworks (munitions) and Tankworks SOEs.

Athretvari’s new digital input/output hubs (ports) prepare for surge in trade.

CPU — The Government of Athretvari has given final approvals to the city development plans (CDPs) submitted by the city-states of Qwerty and Wysiwyg.

The CDPs represent the last two chapters of the government’s “Infra-1900(II)†National Development Plan (NDP-19/II), the Athretvar equivalent of a five-year plan except spanning a particular quantity of national infrastructure development as opposed to a period of time.

NDP-19(II) is the second to cover the upgrade of each city-state’s infrastructure from 1800 to 1900. The “II†series of NDPs specifically cover the massive reconstruction of infrastructure lost during Athretvari’s simultaneous conflicts with four nations within the Nuclear Knights.

NDP-20(II), covering infrastructure upgrades from 1900 to 2000 throughout the Pixelate, will be the last in the “II†series.

Along with upgrading each city-state’s infrastructure to 1900, the two CDPs also authorize the construction of a total of 12-thousand housing units to accomodate approximately 20-thousand new citizens and residents, and the expansion of state-owned Petrovari refined fuels, gasoline, and plastics production facilities, as well as the newly formed AthMetal’s steel manufacturing operations.

In an effort to diversify Athretvari’s exports and move the nation’s products “up the value chainâ€, Petrovari and AthMetal have been given approvals to begin refined petroleum (gasoline) and steel exports starting in 2006 after national reserve requirements are met.

The approvals come as the Orbis raw commodities markets are currently facing price-per-unit slumps, harming overall Athretvar revenues from crude oil, uranium and iron ore exports.

AthMetal also received a licence to import a limited quantity of coal, a rare resource in Athretvari that is vital in the production of steel.

ATHRETVARI DEFENSE INDUSTRIES GROUP (ADIG) REQUESTS MUNITIONS PRODUCTION AND LEAD IMPORT LICENSES

CPU — Athretvari Defense Weekly is reporting that ADIG, the nation’s primary state-owned defense conglomerate and contractor has requested licences to construct and operate 8 munition factories in the government’s upcoming “Infra-2000(II)†National Development Plan (NDP-20/II) currently being debated and drafted within the Corps of Specialists-Select, the government’s official “think-tankâ€.

Hoping to take the lead in Commander-in-Chief Tyro Leif’s economic revitalization “Make-in-Athretvari†plan and his ambitious top-secret “Anti-Arcanologic†weapons program to counter magic, ADIG seeks to begin indigenous production of the new weapon systems and their specialized munitions within Athretvari starting with the next NDP.

The request is contraversial insofar as it also requires the importation of large quantities of lead, a raw natural resource lacking within Athretvari.

ADIG has been rumored to be in talks with defense contractors from two other nations. The talks apparently surround the joint research and develop of sophisticated anti-arcanologic (anti-magic) weapon systems and munitions. The company did not return requests for more information on the talks and refused to identify the two nations in question. However, rumors are swirling in Cpu that Nova Scotia’s Tetravaal Industries is one of the companies. The other company is believed to be located in Narvan.

RCBC could not confirm the rumors.

NIVÃRIMA (Orbis 20 Feb 2005) — Red Castle Broadcasting Corporation (RCBC) begins broadcasting again.

It has been more than five months since 12 thermonuclear devices were detonated in a series of devastating nuclear attacks upon Athretvari in September and October of 2004 by a rogue terrorist organization known only as the Nuclear Knights (NK).

The attacks, which killed more than 1.48 million people in seven Athretvar cities, took place after Athretvari, in what the Corps Parliament (the nation’s lower legislature house) has since pronounced was a violation of the nation’s official external policy of neutrality, declared war and began offensive conventional military operations upon four leading members of the NK. The declarations occurred after the NK announced hostilities and threatened nuclear strikes upon members of the Green Protection Agency (GPA) in an attempt to extort 1.5 billion from the nominally neutral alliance.

While the Athretvar Defense Forces (ADF) executed flawless immense victory after immmense victory against the nuclear armed terrorists, the NK was successful in launching a dozen catastrophic blows against Athretvari. The attacks, while striking and destroying massive chunks of infrastructure and several vital improvements, mostly killed the innocent civilian residents of Athretvari’s greatest cities.

In two major acts of defiance against the terrorists, large sums of cash looted from their treasuries by the ADF were used in the midst of the conflict to rebuild military loses, reconstruct parts of attacked cities and even begin the construction of Bodhisatvani, Athretvari’s eighth great city-state, which shall serve as the administrative capital of the Filipino Palawan Island District of the Natural Territories of Athretvari.

General Luzhe Anké, ADF Deputy Chief-of-Staff reported that the ADF Ground Corps suffered 52,841 casualties, the ADF Tank Corps suffered 1141 casaulties, the ADF Air Corps lost 36 aircraft due to the loss of two airfields, and the ADF Naval Corps lost 10 warships when two naval shipyards were destroyed.

Gen. Anké said that the ADF was successful in quickly helping to erect and sustain brutal naval blockades against the four nuclear powers. Coupled with sustained ground attacks to sap the opponents’ cash resources, the blockades effectively began to starve the terrorist states of vital revenue.

Gen. Anké reported that the ADF destroyed over 8,465 in enemy infrastructure, killed over 193 thousand enemy soldiers, and destroyed over 12 and a half thousand enemy tanks.

ADF Special Corps also suffered an undisclosed number of losses, but reportedly were capable of killing numerous spies and destroying four nuclear devices before the terrorists were able to detonate them.

    ATHRETVARI LEAVES GPA

The Corps Parliament declared in a sternly worded resolution immediately after hostilities with the NK concluded, “Insofar as each member of the alliance is committed to the defense of the other, the Government of Athretvari defines by its very nature and being that the Green Protection Agency (GPA) is not and cannot be ’neutral’, and that its refusal to partake within the politics of Orbis does not make it immune from said politics, and that Athretvari’s participation therein is dangerously hypocrital and destructive to the nation’s reputation and national security. Athretvari does remove itself from the GPA and renounce the external policy of neutrality.â€

The Athretvar government informed the GPA that as part of its exit process it would not seek compensation for the estimated 80 million in infrastructure damage alone sustained during the war, and that two basic grants received by Athretvari in the previous 30 RL-days totaling just over 7.2 million were considered by the Athretvar Government as paid back in kind and full.

Members of the GPA leadership initially rejected the terms of the nation’s exit from the alliance, and began hostile diplomatic acts against Athretvari as it sought to apply to new alliances. However the government in Nivárima, the new Athretvar capital, made firm in several private communiqués to GPA officials that it had no intention of allowing Athretvari to suffer any further after the conflict and considered the issue closed.

    RECONSTRUCTION CONTINUES WITH NEW NAMES

Normalcy is beginning to return to many of Athretvari’s beautiful canals, plazas and streets as the nation continues its long independent drive to reconstruct from the devastation brought by the NK’s horrific attacks.

As radiation in the major urban centers drops below dangerous levels, expats returning and tourists visiting Athretvari will encounter a new country. Not only are new and modern architectual wonders replacing the charred remains of the nation’s old neo-renaissance buildings, but the names of all of the major cities have been “naturalized†to Athretvar names. The change is in line with Commander-in-Chief Tyro Leif’s desire to remove all vestiges of the nation’s pre-independence ASEAN influences in a nationalistic effort to bolster the country’s cultural identity.

MARIA (Orbis 26 May 2003) — The people of Athretvari joined the world in mourning the sudden passing of the musical genius known as Prince.

The 57-year old musician is immensely popular in Athretvari, having sang his famous song "1999" on December 7, 1999 to celebrate the nation's one-year anniversary of its independence. He graced fans with his unique music at Athretvari's Stingray Stadium a total of seven times since then.

Defender Tyro Leif said today, "I know I speak for all Athretvars in saying, we shall miss him, but he will live on in our hearts forever through his music."
