    Goand Wins Orbolympic Bid

Crowds cheering in the city of Arrantilla. (GBC Photos)

Frand, Goand - After days of trepidation, anxiety, waiting, and excitement, the International Orbolympic Committee finally chose the winning bid. Goand won the bid after boiling down potential bids to four nations: Normanlandia, Fraggle Rock, Harzotchka, and Goand. Crowds cheered in cities all over Goand where city governments set up large screens in their city centres. The government then published a statement thanking the IOC for choosing Goand as the host nation, and extending a hand to those nations whose bids weren't successful.

The nation of Fraggle Rock wasn't so thrilled, however. After losing the bid, the government published a statement complaining about how they tried bribing the IOC into choosing them. They then decided to pull out of the Orbolympics, and will not participate in the upcoming games, then proceeded to make a thinly-veiled threat against Goand, saying 'If any nation sends athletes to these games, they are doing so with the risk out them not coming home, or coming home slightly glowing.'. The nation then established their own Orbolympics, dubbed the Super Duper Very Special Orbolympics, or SDVSO for short. Politicians in Goand, including the (ceremonial) President, John Brinks, critisised the threat and called it 'very unsportsman-like'. The Prime Minister is expected to release a statement regarding the incident later today.

    Elections Underway in Goand

    Frand, Goand-

Elections have recently started in Goand, a country that most pundits have agreed has been neglect at the hands of the Partido Conserbatibo (Conservative Party), with numerous raids by renegade nations, multiple alliance changes, a disastrous isolationist policy that has seen left Goand's foreign involment (which used to be high) at an all-time low (it is said that the Prime Minister, Helena Stratsberg, does not get briefed as much on foreign issues as her predecessor, Dylan Pascua). Multiple vote-of-no-confidence motions from the opposition Social Democratic Party have been blocked by the ruling Conservatives, to the chagrin of most opposition parties and even some Conservative MPs, a faction of the party known as the Wild Childs, led by Frederico Canto, a former Defence Minister. The group has threatened multiple times to bolt out of the party to join the more right-wing Bagong Goand (New Goand) party. Anna Fredericson, one of the MPs who represents Allo township in Bucidnon-Alsacoff, explained their opposition to Stratsberg. 'We don't want some idiot running the country', she said in Filipino.

While the Conservatives were mired in infighting, the Social Democrats and another minority party, the Centrist Liberal Party, have been relatively stable. The Social Democrats, headed once again by former Prime Minister Dylan Pascua, are in fighting form once again, after a few years of their own problems. Pascua, who is now 46, hopes to take back control of Parliament. 'The Conservatives have consistently shown that they are unable to form a united front to serve the people of Goand', he answered in an ambush interview near his house in Adlon. The Centrist Liberal Party, a relatively new party, have also had a strong showing in recent polls, have also been relatively stable. Led by Stennis Rickbourg, son of notorious hotelier Jacques Rickbourg, they have presented themselves as a moderate alternative to the two traditional parties. Other parties registered for elections is the far-left-wing Communist Party of Goand, the right-wing Partido Bagong Goand (New Goand Party), the classical liberal Libertarian Party, and the fascist New Unity Party.

As another conflict ravages Orbis, the government has recently announced that Goand will open all borders to refugees being affected by the ongoing war. 'It is our responsibility to help those who are affected by conflict, worldwide', said External Affairs Secretary John Gbplaisek MP. 'That's why we will open our borders to every single refugee affected by the war'.
Refugee centers, providing shelter, food, and refugee education centers have been set up by the government in all of Goand's 6 cities.
Samantha Yamouni, a refugee from a Mensa-allied nation, when asked about her perilous journey to Edenia, one of Goand's cities, says that the trip was worth it. 'Living conditions here are much better than those in Bithynia. They give us food and shelter. We are treated like humans;, she said. 'The government has promised me a job as soon as I finish the refugee education course. Praise Dio!', Samantha continued.
Experts around Orbis praised Goand's handling of the crisis.

    Goand signs NAP with Canada

Goand has added another nation to its allies list: Canada. After talks between the two nations stalled a few years ago for unknown reasons, Goand and Canada have finally signed a Non-Agression Pact. This comes after Canada made territorial claims in Scandinavia, similar to Sweden's (an ally of Goand) in Canada. 'This is wonderful news!' said Prime Minister Dylan Pascua in his trip to the Brotherhood of Kyro. 'We have been wanting for years to sign a treaty with the wonderful people in Canada'.

EDENIA, GOAND- After voting 139-71, Parliament has voted in favor of establishing the Bureau of Intellgence, Reconnaissance, and Covert Operations (BIRCO). The BIRCO will be in charge of gathering intelligence, reconnaissance operations against other nations, and training spies. It will also be in close collaboration with the nation of Khevin's own intelligence agency, the KIA (Khevin Intelligence Agency).
Defence Minister Augustina Mariano MP has praised the decision as 'the next step towards building a strong nation'.
'We believe the establishment of our own intelligence agency is the next step towards building a strong nation, so as to avoid what happened when we were attacked by multiple nations when we left Brotherhood of the Clouds.'
Some people, though, were not supportive of the decision.
'Forming BIRCO will destroy our nation's ideals of transparency and democracy!', said Libertarian-Anarchist Party member Max Woll MP. 'Do any of you realize how the government could use this against people? We, the people, must do something to stop this!', he said, addressing people during an anti-spying rally in front of National Park.

We're going to Kyro and Saxony to meet and talk to Lannan13 and Stormrideon, men I have deep respect for', he said during an ambush interview. 'We would also like to broach the idea for a Non-Agression Pact for Kyro and Great Saxony Empire', he added.

'We mourn the passing of a man me and Prime Minister Pascua are close friends with. There are no words to describe the sadness we feel now that someone we respect has passed on.' He also condemned the SARF (Shiite Anarchist Revolutionary Front) for its actions. 'I condemn the SARF for killing Mr Zhogin. The SARF are nothing more than terrorist scum and they should be removed from the face of the earth', continued President Brinks.
He also declared that the Goandian flag will be flying at half-mast for one month in honour of Zhogin.

Recently, a videotape has been found in the GBC's storage department containing a lost interview between the state broadcaster and Khevin's leader, Vladimir Zhogin. We are here to show you the tape, after 3 years gathering dust.
Please note that some of the information in this interview may be outdated.

    (Start tape)
Peter Hoelving: Recently, Thomas Aldon of the United Front criticised the Non-Aggression Pact between Goand and Khevin. What do you think of this?
Vladimir Zhogin: Although we may be Communist in a way, the people wrote the Constitution in 1987, and this is what they wished. They all heard my ideals and they agreed with them. As everybody can see, we are going in to our Golden Age because of our economic policies. Our social policies are actually moderate, not strict nor authoritarian. We would gladly invite Thomas Aldon to visit Khevin to see what goes on here.
Peter Hoelving: Most Zhoginists in Ordor (a Communist foothold) have started calling for an armed revolution. Some who attempted to form a revolutionary force were stopped by the government. Would you support or condemn what the revolutionaries are doing?
Vladimir Zhogin: I condemn these revolutionaries for trying to revolt against a country that Khevin is good allies with. They should be focused on running for government, not a coup.
Peter Hoelving: Fundamentalist Shiites here in Goand have condemned your government for persecuting Semyon Marshenko. What do you think of this?
Vladimir Zhogin: I can see why they would condemn us, but now they will be considered as terrorists in the eye of Zhoginism because they are supporting the SARF through this. Semyon Marshenko has committed a crime that can not go unpunished. This also shows that they think men should beat their wives. This is unacceptable. We are also not persecuting him. This is extremely public because he is a well known public figure who has done many things for Khevin. We are following our constitution and doing what Allah has told us and what we will and must do.
Peter Hoelving: What is your stance on the Third Great War?
Vladimir Zhogin: I stand pretty neutral on most of this, but I will be in support of my protector Arrgh.
Peter Hoelving: There have been reports going around saying you've gone mad, evidenced by you sending terrorists in Canada to help their government. Is this true? Or not?
Vladimir Zhogin: I am not going mad. I did send terrorists to Canada for various reasons. Michael Ventrous is coming to like me and that's what I wanted.
Peter Hoelving: Would you ever consider, when the time comes, leaving Roz Wei?
Vladimir Zhogin: No. I would only leave if we are going downhill and it is hopeless. I would also leave if Rozalia becomes oppressive.
Peter Hoelving: Have there been any instances where you considered leaving?
Vladimir Zhogin: No. Roz Wei has been good to me and my growth went up exponentially.
Peter Hoelving: Thank you for taking some of your time to answer me.

"We don't have a strong military and BoC might get pummeled!", he added. Frances Viditum MP (Libertarian), however, dismissed the Goandian head of state's remarks. Hello all,
You might have heard that we have recently opened a new supermarket in the city. Our goal was to increase our tax revenues, increase commerce, and improve our nation score. But a few hours later, I had a meeting with the entire cabinet to see if supermarkets were still viable, seeing as though not one dollar has arrived in our coffers. Later we decided that both supermarkets were under-performing and that we had to close at least one. We agreed that before we open another commercial building, we had to have enough money and people first. So starting today, I, the Prime Minister, and the entire Cabinet, have decided to close one branch of our supermarket. We have yet to decide if we will also close the other branch. We will now also increase our focus on production of raw materials.
