I implore you to consider just being a normal dude in another alliance. Playing P&W but not in gov. It's the best of both worlds because you get to enjoy the game and community without the burden of command. In any case, good luck on things fren.

Humanitarian aid to the third world actually undermines their success. Clothes donations destroys local business (you can't compete with free). Food aid disincentives people to learn agriculture. Plus, the populations of these third world countries are directly related to how much food there is. With all this food aid, the women - having no access to birth control - keep having children. These children are then in turn are used as justification for more food aid. So, you have all these people who don't know how to grow their own food, and they're reliant on the West for food. Well, what happens if that food chain gets disrupted? You're then looking at mass starvation. This already happened with COVID lockdowns. It's going to happen again - but worse - due to climate change. What happens if the Russo-Ukraine war causes a limited nuclear exchange? Won't be pretty! If I recall correctly, African fertility is starting to drop. They also are getting wealthier. Perhaps in the coming decades, their population will become more sustainable, and they'll be growing more of their own food. However, I am completely against more of my own tax dollars going overseas. American quality of life keeps declining, and we need to give more to foreigners?! Lol, no thank you!

New Pacific Order benefitted greatly from being an actual community. The unity of their members transcended Politics and War. If the P&W servers went offline right before NPOLT started (or even today), the New Pacific Order community would still exist. The same really can't be said for almost all P&W alliances. Because of this unity, NPO members were scarily loyal. They did exactly what they were told to do when they were told to do it. It also allowed their decision makers to conduct themselves with a completely different mindset from the rest of the game. P&W decision makers ask, "how do we further ourselves in Politics and War?" Whereas NPO's decision makers asked themselves, "how do we further our community?" Eventually they concluded that their enemies' continued existence in this game was an intolerable situation, and they acted as such when they had the opportunity to. Perhaps there are entities in P&W rn that do want to win, but I don't think anybody really has the spirit to do it. Unless you're willing to force all others to bend the knee to you or quit the game, then it's not possible to win. You also have to be very competent to enact that spirit as well; and again, I don't think anybody is competent enough to do so. A lot of the big power players would have to undergo a complete shift in principles, and then band together, and then stay together, and then survive all internal and external attempts to unmake their grouping, and then maintain a specific status quo indefinitely through diplomacy and war making. I just don't think the will or ability exists within anyone or anything for this to happen anytime soon. It took NPO and Inquisition years to do it (and they still ultimately failed). Now we have a multi-polar world where everyone in anchored to P&W, so it would probably be harder for such a puzzle to be started, let alone completed and to ultimately succeed.

First off, thanks Zed for blessing us with that post. High-level, articulate stuff like that is always appreciated. I don't think it's guaranteed that t$ would get shat on. People would be critical of Syndicate's war performance if there were severe issues (I recall some controversy that Syndicate deleted military and refused to fight in some past war, but I'm unsure on the facts of that), but that's true for any alliance. The only people who I imagine would be critical of the move would be those who you were be aligned against because of the war. That would be Oreo Bros and Midgard. I have a hard time imagining those in Withheld or HOGG would be critical of Syndicate honoring their treaty. As someone who has been critical of Syndicate publicly, I would not have held it against you guys at all in the hypothetical you're presenting. This is my broad perspective, as someone who is ignorant of many things in this game: The Syndicate has, for as long as I can remember, been a mover and shaker. When 'Syndisphere' won the game, you were the one who took them paperless for quite some time. There was the t$-NPO treaty (and the wild breakup shortly afterwards). There was Treasure Island. These are the examples that come to mind, but Syndicate has always been interesting and competent. An anchor of the game. After the war that shall go unnamed, this seems to have changed. I'm not sure what all happened, but I remember Horse's call out thread about you guys, which was immensely popular at the time. I didn't know what everything was that he referred to (and I still don't), but quite a number of people seemed to agree with the sentiment. Combined with the claims that t$ was refusing to fight and/or deleting military, it painted an ugly picture. I will admit that I can't for sure say what is true about all this, but it does influence what I think, and it's why I don't hold t$ is the highest regards at the moment. Now, what I can talk about more confidently is my interpretation of t$'s FA for the past two years: Syndicate, as it appeared to me, started to prioritize safety above all else. I didn't like Quack, and was pleased to see it dissolve. I also didn't like Celestial. The meta was shifting towards multispheres, but t$ seems to have stayed away from that as much as possible. So, I was pleasantly surprised to see Syndicate break off and come into Wayward. It reminded me of the t$ of old. It's risky to break up a solid bloc with another anchor like Rose, and to roll with two smaller alliances. But you guys did it anyways, and that was hella cool! Wana made his thread flogging himself, and I was excited to see t$ turn over a new leaf. Now, I say all this because I wanted to go back to what I said at the beginning on this post. As someone who has publicly spoke against t$ a number of times, I would've had nothing bad to say about t$ if they stayed in Wayward and fought Eclipse. At most I would've poked fun some if you guys had a particularly bad war performance, but I would do that for anyone. I'm sure there are some people who have an irrational hatred for you guys. I would say that I am not one of them. The Syndicate is home to a number of people I like, and I admire t$'s history. I'm just frustrated that you guys aren't what you were in the past. Instead of dancing on the knife's edge of disaster to put on a good show like y'all have in the past, it looks like to me that y'all prefer to hug pixels, and I just think that's unfortunate, because I've seen what you guys can do, and have done.

It's totally legitimate to use VM numbers as a data point to dunk on an alliance with. Mass unwillingness to fight Is worthy of criticism. That said, the key word there is mass. If it's not a strong double digit percentage, then it's probably not an effective attack. The reality is that war does require more activity than usual, and things do happen IRL. I don't believe the number of VM'ers in TKR (14%) Is high enough to where it's really indicative of a shortcoming in their community. Especially because I'm sure some of those were already in VM before the war.

Facts. It's something I tried to do with my first alliance in The Evenstar Empire. I know Dwight Schrute did it (and faced no repercussions for it at all). People do it all the time. The only people who get upset over it are the suckers who let themselves get taxed and don't use any vigilance at all, and people who are seething that they can't pull off an embezzling scheme themselves.

Although I think the war is ultimately a cool move, Midgard's numerical advantage was a bit offputting. This balances the scales. Very nice! GLHF to everyone!
