Gun Control (Some) Only citizens[1] who have legally gone through 12-month conscription in either the Cypriot National Guard/Army and a license issued by provincial police are allowed to own firearms. Firearms are strictly restricted to bolt-action rifles below a 5-ammo capacity, semi-automatic (or single-action) pistols/revolvers below an 8-ammo capacity, and multi-barreled/lever-action/pump-action shotguns below a 5-ammo capacity. Suppressors are not allowed. Turkish army veterans living in Cyprus who has not done a loyalty pledge, felons, and mentally unstable citizens are not allowed to possess firearms, unless under special exceptions.

Same-Sex Marriage (Yes) Only recently had same-sex marriage been allowed in Cyprus due to pressure from other European countries in 1984 – most laws of the old Republic of Cyprus Constitution (pre-enosis) had been moved to the new Constitution. Same-sex couples still must go through conscription. Adoption of children is not allowed for same-sex couples, married or not.

Capital Punishment/Death Penalty (No) While capital punishment had initially been banned in pre-enosis Cyprus, the Second Republic had allowed the death penalty in special occasions, such as acts of terrorism or treason to the Cyprus government; even so it must be approved by the Assembly. As of far there has been no executions.
Animal Rights/Protection (Some) Animal abuse is considered a crime, but the government does not specifically do anything toward abandoned or stray pets. Specific areas of Cyprus are considered protected wildlife zones, and logging or herding is not allowed there.
