Deep within the earth, they chitter and plan... What are the Skaven? Skaven are wretched ratlike humanoids that dwell in the hidden places of the world. Long thought to be locked within the realm of Warhammer Fantasy, malfunctions within the Skittergate have unleashed the hordes and war-machines of Clan Skryre upon Orbis. Craven in nature and cursed with an overbearing superiority complex, these foul beings have one common goal: subjugate all lesser species in the name of the Great Horned Rat and their leader, the Master Warlock-Engineer Ikit Claw. Who is Ikit Claw? A master of technosorcery and insane without parallel, Ikit Claw is one of the leaders of the four Great Clans. His obsession with Warpstone (Erroneously called Uranium to non-Skaven) has lead him to Orbis, seeking to harness its powerful and mutative properties to perpetuate his vile experiments and lend his clan the serrated edge it will need to secure its place in this world. Warpstone fuels much of Skaven society, from currency, munitions, to a coveted food source for those short-lived enough to not care about its negative effects. The nuclear age of Orbis has not only irradiated the planet, but has captured the attention of the Warlock-Master himself. And Ikit will have his Warpstone. What does that mean for Orbis? The age of man, beast, and alien is over. Even now, hordes of Skavenslaves tunnel and toil under the vast crust of Orbis, and innumerable plague ships will soon disgorge their chittering cargo to distant shores. Their warmachines are legend, their mastery of Warpstone unparalleled. The age of the Rat has come. Even now, their foul bells toll out the death-knell of empires, but in their arrogance they do not heed it. Do not ask for whom the bell tolls, for it tolls for thee...
