  1. Commons: Formalization of election process, and moderate restructure of the process Posted on Apr 12, 2013 by Department of Information, Website Office Press Release For Year 5 , the King announced the formation of the Summit on Civic Improvement. By 2008, 250 members were nominated to the result of that Summit: The House of Commons. From that original body of 250 individuals, they elected James Halmund to be the Minister for Commons, and the King approved. Minister Halmund has been a regular at the King’s weekly cabinet meetings, and while their terms were not up until 2016, several months ago, he approached the King about...
  2. Posted on Mar 21, 2013 by Department of Information, Website Office Press ReleaseThe Department of State, for all its importance, has been severely lacking in executive staff and capability. This is largely due to an incredibly underwhelming budget and a significant isolationist attitude within the Department. Unhappy with how the Department has been representing the Kingdom, the King has invoked his personal prerogative to, as he put it, “meddle.†Minister Dakota Hake has offered her resignation, and the King has rejected it. His reasoning is that she was handed a shoddy department, and without the resources to solve the problems, she has done her best. He is now putting all the resources necessary into empowering and redefining the Department. The old Department, which consisted of relations offices for each of three largest territories, has been expanded to include eighteen brand new departments with targeted focuses that will expand the reach and relationship of the Kingdom with all our allies and the international community. From Human Rights, to Energy, to Justice, and Youth related issues, the Department will take on a staggering new approach to promoting good, sound international policy. From the Critics Panel“This significant overhaul is something that many Resvernans have wanted, and we are happy to see the King intervening to deliver such a promising improvement to one of his core Departments. From an economic standpoint, our nation is sitting on an obscene amount of cash reserves, and with the increased funding for the State Department, we anticipate a significant boost to international aid and support will soon follow. Overall, we are delighted in this action.â€

  4. Marriage: A National Survey from the Christian & Maria College's Sociology Department Posted on Feb 19, 2013 by Department of Information, Website Office With too much time on their hands, students from the College of Christian and Maria 's Sociology Department conducted a national survey to get a better idea of where our collective heads are at when it comes to tying the knot. 5. Posted on Feb 19, 2013 by Department of Information, Website Office With too much time on their hands, students from the College of Christian and Maria's Sociology Department conducted a national survey to get a better idea of where our collective heads are at when it comes to tying the knot. Compiling the results from more than half a million responses from across the Kingdom, they answered the following twenty three questions. 1. What is the age limit for marriage? The age of maturity is 18, at the national level. Only a few regions in the former Kingdom of Vonara still have laws on the books allowing or referencing a younger age of marriage. Most of the nation seems to have adopted 18 as the age of consent as well. 2. Is divorce legal? After becoming a widow? If yes, in what way is it treated by citizens? Divorce is legal, in all situations. This does not take into consideration religious beliefs. From a legal perspective, however, divorce is allowed. In fact, many regional governments now require prenuptual agreements, since the court system was becoming overburdened in the last few decades. Societally, most citizens seem to accept that divorce is just a natural part of life: some people make a mistake and get married too quickly, or they have problems that they just cannot get past. 3. Is homosexual marriage legal? If yes, how is it treated by citizens? Absolutely. There are no restrictions. Consenting adults are allowed to marry, without restriction. In fact, so long as all parties consent, more than two people can be married together. In situations where more than two people are party to a marraige, all participants are equally bound to each other in the eyes of the government. If you have two women and one man, the two women are equally married, just as they are each married to the man. In situations like this, we've found that prenuptuals are again, mandatory. 4. Is sex before marriage legal? Frowned upon? There are no laws prohibiting sex before marriage. On the national level, there are laws protecting susceptible members of society from being taken advantage of, such as those who have not yet reached the age of consent (minors) and those who do not have the mental capacity to consent. Societally, it varies, and is largely dependant on the relationship. We've found that a large age gap seems to inspire more reaction. 5. What is your country's people's attitude towards marriage? Marriage, while totally permitted and widely used, is lately becoming less and less of a regular occurence among the younger generations. Cohabitation seems to be preferred. 6. How do they propose? With what? Are women allowed to propose? Anyone can propose, and in fact many female respondents have informed us that they've been the one to make the move. We're unsure what this says about traditional gender roles, but we like it. Women have always been empowered in our Kingdoms, and we're delighted that this hasn't changed. 7. Is parental approval needed? As the participants in the marriage ceremony are of legal age, parental approval is not necessary. Culturally, however, most report that they felt a strong urge to seek approval from both their parents, and their spouse’s parents. 8. Who takes the last name? While legally there is no requirement one way or the other, societally most husbands keep their last name, while most wives hyphenate, or keep both theirs and their spouse’s new name. For the founding families, however, there is a very different custom. Certain houses or titles have precedence, and membership of the family also entails a very complex set of rules governing naming. 9. Are weddings private or large parties? Both? Depending on the couple, a wedding could be small or large. Seemingly, it largely is determined by what the wife wants. 10. Are wedding expensive? While many weddings tend to be expensive, some organizations have been founded to promote weddings. Many of these organizations provide some funds to cover the costs of weddings. 11. What do the spouses wear at their wedding day? If the wedding is a strictly traditional Resvernan wedding, the wife wears a white dress with either blue (if they have had sex before marriage) or golden (if the wife is a virgin) accents; the husband wears a black tuxedo with a shirt matching the wife’s accent color. However, if the husband holds a peerage, then he will wear the traditional garment of his peerage. Most weddings do not seem to be strictly traditional, however many weddings adapt parts of the traditional wedding garment style. 12. Where are party weddings held? & 13. Where are private weddings held? Weddings have been held anywhere from small chalets, homes, or parks; hotels, banquet halls, and sometimes castles are rented for the occasion. 14. What sort of music is usually played? & 15. How is the ("I Do") ceremony played out? Do they kiss? As far as music goes, that largely is determined by the atmosphere of the wedding. The same goes for the “I Do†ceremony. Depending on the theme and atmosphere, anything from a light peck to an intimate, deep, elaborate kiss. 16. Are afterparties common? Are they separated by gender or not? We’ve found that afterparties are very frequent, with separation generally frowned upon. Only where the religion requires it, are there any sort of separation. 17. If yes, what is done at afterparties? Respondents overwhelmingly told us that afterparties that they’ve attended had dancing, eating, and cutting of a wedding cake. Outliers include the husband swearing an oath to protect the wife from harm, and the wife prostrating herself before her husband and swearing obedience. Again, though, these are outliers, and we only received a few responses. 18. What kind of lovers are Resvernans? & 19. Is sexual activity strictly for making children or also for pleasure and bonding? From both our own experiences, and from the responses that we received, as a people, we are incredibly passionate in all that we do; and that translates into the bedroom. With that in mind, sexual intercourse is often times undertaken strictly for pleasure. 20. Is rape recognized in marriage as a crime? Legally, rape happens whenever a consenting adult has not consented to the sexual activity that they are participating in. Being married does not excuse any activity. If one party expresses their desire for the sexual activity to stop, and it is not stopped, then that is rape. 21. Are there limits to how many children they can have? There are no limits, legally, however many members of society said that if they had more than three children now, they would feel very awkward, since most of their neighbors and friends only have one or two children. 22. Is your leader married? His Majesty, King Grealind is happily married to Princess Olivia of Montiverde. 23. What is a common pickup line? We did not find any common pickup lines, however many people expressed that they met their significant other, or someone that they dated, simply by introducing themselves. So in that sense, introducing yourself is the most common pickup line. edit: spelling
  6. Happy Birthday Princess Olivia Posted on Feb 1, 2013 by Department of Information, Website Office Press Release As the queen and wife of King Grealind, Princess Olivia is the most powerful woman in Resvernas. Happy 40 th birthday, Princess Olivia.

  8. Posted on Jan 17, 2013 by Ministry of Information, Website Office Press ReleaseAfter a long and illustrious career, Minister Nasih Bayhas Cham attended his final meeting of His Majesty's Cabinet Thursday, 17 January 2013. He had a long, productive meeting and introduced his successor, who was formally sworn in by the King at the end of the meeting. Minister Cham's protegee, Viscount Percy Fines, will be leading the Ministry as we enter the next stage of exciting, important Defence work. Percy Fines, The Viscount Wellman, has been an institution within the Defense and Intelligence community, beginning as an analyst for his local field office. When the Wellman fieldoffice was slated for closure due to budget cuts, he offered his family estate as an alternative location, which would significantly reduce expenses for the department. When that offer was declined, he instead sought to raise the funds privately to ensure that his fellow citizens remained employed, and the office remained open. He eventually ran for local representative, and briefly considered a stint in the House of Commons, before being tapped by his longtime mentor, Minister Cham, to head the Analyst Office within the Department of Defence. From the Critics Panel"This body is shocked, as is the whole country, with the resignation of Minister Cham. He has served the entire Kingdom, and not just a select few covert bodies. From a political standpoint, it makes sense that his protegee would take over. That said, we wonder how long the King, and Minister Cham, has known about this resignation, and how long Minister Fines has been being groomed for this new position. On the one hand, a drawn out transition process ensures that nothing is left to chance, but on the other, that same long process might indicate that there is something more serious going on. All in all, we tentatively support the appointment of Minister Fines."

  13. Posted on Dec 4, 2012 by Ministry of Information, Website Office Press ReleaseLast month the Treasury Department announced that Minister Bashir Harun would be stepping down from his post, and would soon be named Ambassador to The Kingdom of The Evenstar. His Majesty, King Grealind I has sent his credentials and a personal letter of introduction to King Thalmor I Septim, of the Kingdom of The Evenstar, and we are pleased to say that Ambassador Harun has been received. “Our Embassy in The Evenstar has become woefully outdated, and it’s high time that’s solved.†The new Ambassador will begin talks with the government of The Evenstar on acquiring a new parcel for a state of the art Embassy, which will take advantage of all the latest technological innovations, and will also, be carbon negative (meaning it produces more energy than it uses). The State Department has already commissioned several notable architects and building firms to begin designing the new Embassy.

  15. When I first read this, I thought you were basically saying instead of setting a quantity to buy (or sell), it would just be I will buy/sell "infinity" for this price. Based on your suggestion, maybe a better idea might be to have a toggleable (not a word, but you know what I'm saying) option that would allow you to buy the necessary raw resources for whatever the lowest price on the market is if you don't have enough on hand (and are not blockaded). This would solve the problem of when a player doesn't have enough coal or iron or (gasp) food. The market would solve the problem. Maybe every time your nation has to auto-buy something, it would take a hit to your approval rating (emergency buying is expensive, and stuff).
  16. Posted on Nov 16, 2012 by Ministry of Information, Website Office Press ReleaseThe Treasury Department has long been considered one of the King’s “pet†projects. Before he ascended to the throne, he began the process of restructuring the department, and has since taken a keen interest in its success. With the introduction of the Community Grants Program (CGP) in year 4, he signaled that the past was the past, and the successes and transparency was the now, and the future. Minister Bashir Harun has stepped down as the head of the Treasury Department as he is being named the Ambassador to The Evenstar, with immediate effect. Deputy Minister Michael Alegino will assume the responsibilities and position as the new Minister of the Treasury. As this week’s Cabinet Meeting, the King stated that as the Evenstar is our Kingdom’s most important ally, he could think of no finer, no more capable representative. Ambassador Harun will be formally presented to King Thalmor of The Evenstar at a ceremony in the coming days. With the change in leadership, a series of additional shakeups and promotions are coming. At Ambassador Harun’s request, Deputy Ministers Sr Neil P. Ensign (Trade) and Christia Browning (Agriculture) will be assigned to the Evenstar Embassy.

  20. Community Grants Program: How we’re impacting our communities, one grant at a time. Posted on Oct 9, 2012 by Ministry of Information, Website Office Press ReleaseAlmost £14 trillion later, the Community Grants Program within the Department of the Treasury is the single largest sustained contribution to society in our Kingdom’s history, even adjusting for inflation. Being homeless is unheard of, and the housing market is enjoying a sustained, and somewhat controlled, boom. Being hungry is now only a personal choice, as food banks nationwide are stocked year-round with healthy and nutritious options. Being unhealthy is taboo, with such an amazing healthcare system. Young children are learning at an unprecedented rate, and literacy is at an all-time high. One of the biggest breakthroughs that can be attributed to the CGP is Hasoline. Residents in the town of Bellham were fed up with the oil company polluting their water supply, so they banded together and came up with an idea. They wanted to invent an alternative to gasoline that would have all the positive effects with none of the harmful impacts. The idea was that if Hasoline could exist, and could be produced in large enough quantity, then the only companies impacted would be those who are already harming the environment, a net positive effect. Dr. Nora Marc, the bioengineering Baroness Bellham personally contributed thousands of hours of lab time to identifying the properties, and then reverse engineering the product to have the desired outcome. What resulted was the first sustainable model for Hasoline production. Dr. Marc is now the Chief Research Officer for the Hasoline Initiative, which partnered with the CGP to provide every municipality and resident with the know-how and equipment to replicate the successes of her community.
