  1. Hey everyone, This is Alex here, creator and Admin of Politics and War. I'm setting a new goal of writing a monthly update to everyone about what's going on with the game. I don't know that it will necessarily be anything fancy, but it is a way that I can be more open and transparent about progress in the game. I'm also aiming for a less formal tone here--largely I'm just presenting my thoughts on the current state of the game to you all. I originally wrote this as an email to send out to all current players. But I'm also posting it here to open it up for comments. So, let's dive in. What's on the docket for Politics and War in September and beyond? Well, for those of you that don't know, I did start working with a part-time developer back last year named Payal. She doesn't play the game and isn't on Discord, so you haven't really been exposed to her, but she has been really helpful in getting a lot of things implemented in the game. She's also definitely a better programmer than I am. *insert Alex sucks as coding joke here* 😂 Anyway, she is working with me on building out a new set of alliance positions and permissions. This is going to be a cool system that keeps the existing default positions, but lets you as an alliance leader add up to 6 more (total of 10) and customize the permissions for each position. This has been a long requested change, and I think it will really improve alliance management and roleplay which is great. We're also working on setting up a treasure trading system, where you can propose an offer in-game to buy a treasure from someone. There's a lot more to this, but back when I explicitly wrote into the rules that it would be a rules violation to coordinate treasure transfer (through war) I promised I would implement a mechanism for actually transferring treasures not via war. Well, that should be coming soon, another long awaited change. Behind the scenes we've also been working on a new draft of the Game Rules. After pitching these a few weeks ago and getting some feedback, I think we're ready to move ahead. Largely this is a logistical change - instead of having a “3 strikes and you're out” system, we are going to have a “100 Moderation Points and you're out” system, where each rules violation can get a different number of moderation points. Warnings will also automatically expire, which was another frequent request/complaint about the old system. The rules change in itself isn't a huge one, but Payal is helping me build out a really robust back-end to build in a lot of these things and make moderation work far easier. My hope is that getting all of this done will really free up a lot of my time when I'm working on Politics and War, most of which actually gets spent going through messages, reports, support tickets, and other general moderation duties. I'd love to get back to spending more time actually developing content and improvements for the game! The last thing that I wanted to mention in this email is that early this month we celebrated Politics and War's 7th anniversary, which is amazing that the game has been around for so long now. For those of you that don't know, I actually created Politics and War when I was in high school - all by myself and self taught. I had no idea it was going to turn into such a popular game or last for this long. Politics and War is a huge part of my life, and more-or-less my career at this point. I've always loved making games, and in particular had an interest in government and economics, so really getting to do this is like a dream come true. Most days don't feel like work at all, and I am really fortunate that you all have contributed so much into building the community that makes this game what it is. Without all the players and alliances, discord servers, player-run banks and other institutions, Politics and War would just be a funny old website. Thank you so much for the countless hours you have all put into Politics and War. Sincerely, Alex

  2. Typical HW posturing AS USUAL, I'm sure Benfro, Cooper and Morf and currently shaking each other in disbelief after reading Firwof's cutting exposè. Ever realise why Syndi, Oasis and Rose don't get these God tier posts from Firwof? That's right, Firwof is Roa$is's biggest weapon in destroying TKR's image. Sorry Vexz, Tyrion and WANA, had to be said. (/s, if it wasn't obv)

  5. Apparently I’m either illiterate or ignorant. Did I miss this reasoning being written somewhere? Or was I just supposed to know via osmosis? Thanks for rolling out the downvote brigade instead of just telling the rest of us that are otherwise occupied what this is all about. Oh thank goodness! I thought someone on OWF might have an original thought. Oh wait, never mind. Let’s just retread the oldest accusation in the book of TKR World Police. Forgive me for accusing the #15 alliance of smashing some micro without a stated reason as being classless. Maybe next time someone could tell the rest of us what is going on.

  6. --- NOTE: No longer accepting new clients as of 9/22/2021. This project has been shuttered. --- Want to hurt someone, but don't want to risk getting your own shit rocked or creating problems for your alliance? No problem! Just hire me! Damages and Numbers: A nuke will destroy roughly 1,750 infra in a a single go. In a 2,500 infra city, that's over $25,000,000 (25M) in damages alone. Nuclear fallout will also drop the population of a city for weeks. Causing hundreds of thousands of dollars in extra damage. Destroyed mines, farm, and factories cause damage for as long as they're unrepaired. If there's sufficient standing military, destroyed military improvement will kill those units as well (most alliances run 100% aircraft!) Finally, if a nuke takes out a nuclear power plant, that whole city is a loss until it's replaced. A single nuke on a 2,500 infra city can do $30,000,000 in total damage to a player. Even for big nations, that's a whole day of income lost. Now, imagine nuking a player with 3,000, 3,500, or even 4,000 infra. In peacetime, these aren't uncommon numbers. Benefits to Clients: For players, I can nuke someone who's pissed you off. Alternatively, maybe you just think someone is a noob and needs to be taught a lesson. Whatever you're motivation, you can take satisfaction in watching someone's P&W day get ruined when that all-to-familiar nuclear overlay goes over their nation's flag. For alliances, you can use me to covertly damage the big boys of some rival you have. Or, you can hire me to damage YOUR alliance so your people will have less to lose in war. Or, maybe there's some idiot that keeps building infra when you've told them to stop and they need some tough love. Whatever the case, I'm at your service. Clients will be able to pick what my war dec is when I declare on a target. I will hit whoever you want. I have no morals except that I will keep my clients confidential. Prices: I do not have a set price structure at the moment. DM me on Discord and I will give you a quote. Even if you don't hire me, the consultation is confidential.

  7. Here at Waffle House, our number one priority is good food fast. We're owned by our employees, so our number one priority is to our loyal customers, and not greedy executives and shareholders. The reason our food tastes so good (especially when you're drunk) is because of the care and dedication that goes into it, a byproduct of our homegrown leadership programs. Unfortunately, some individuals do not uphold the high standards that Waffle House has. One morning, Jacob and Duncan were sitting at the counter when Quackers ran in, yelling incoherently about meth chickens and this new restaurant across the street. Duncan looked out the window. "Los Pollos Hermanos", the sign read. Outside, a filthy old man named Dusty Dart was welcoming patrons in. The very same Dusty Dart that had destroyed the old Pantheon Diner, and ran off with Stratosphere Steakhouse's money. And now, he's selling drug laced chicken in an effort to steal Waffle House's loyal customers. It would be going against our moral code to allow these gross ethical violations to continue. As such, Waffle House declares war on Los Pollos Hermanos. The Waffle House Index is now YELLOW.

  9. I'm kinda tired of arguing with people on the forum. So: Good luck and have fun guys on both sides Smart move honestly, hitting someone while their ally can't, it's strategically sound Please just... Keep the salt to a minimum, this is just a game after all For legal reasons: It was all Boyce's fault I can't even afford nukes anymore so I hope you aren't waiting for counters Unless explicitly stated by an FA representative of The Order (currently being only Boyce and myself) the opinions of said person are their own, and not representative of the official position of the alliance 😉

  17. 1) It originated when someone mistook RP (dusty opening a competing restaurant and stealing customers with meth) for our actual CB. 5) Again, cowardly/dishonorable/not classy isn't an argument here. 6) BS, and you know it. 7) Dusty took the entire bank and demanded that it be kept on his nation at all times. When he was hit and blockaded, he refused to request any counters. Even if all three wars were lost, the majority of the bank would've still been intact and could've been returned to SMC. Instead, he chose to spend it all on himself. That's very simple. 9) Dusty is a leader of his alliance, and his actions (past and present) reflect on you and your alliance as a whole. You knew his full history when you started Los Pollos Hermanos.

  18. What the hell happened here. We at Los Pollos Hermanos haven’t even made a comment yet. Let me clear up a few misconceptions, then I’m dipping. 1. At no time did Dusty or anyone else attempt to poach from WH. I don’t even know where that idea originated. 2. We aren’t actually this hyperbolic pack of malicious criminals that we’ve been increasingly portrayed as with each additional comment. 3. We don’t care about this nearly as much as everyone else does for some reason. 4. Who cares about upvotes? (Not a misconception, just genuinely confusing) 5. Hitting an alliance 65 ranks below you while their protector is occupied in war, over an event involving one leader, which occurred from two months ago, is cowardly. The initial CB was weak at best, and they’ve now been compounding unrelated reasons after the fact, many of which aren’t even true. 6. Pancakes are better than waffles. 7. We don’t deny the SMC bank ordeal, however, there were more factors at play in that story. It isn’t as black and white as it appears. 8. I refuse to elaborate any further, because I don’t want to. Let this war wrap up and move on. 9. This last one is a pet peeve of mine. Check the damn alliance page before you start calling Los Pollos Hermanos “Dusty’s alliance.” We’re co-leaders. It’s very easy to find that out. Give me some credit where credit is due. 10. This do not matter. Any response invoking me to reply will be met with a handcrafted, top-of-the-line, certified grade-A shitpost.

  28. A majority of wars till date have been dogpiles. While there are few examples of how a side with superior activity and "competence" in general have been able to "win" against dogpiles, dogpiles are generally hated by the community. The reason for the hate is that it is extremely hard to win a dogpile. While there have been a number of changes to solve this problem, none of them seem to have been effective enough. The most notable among these failed changes has been the reduction to causalities for defenders in the war compared to the aggressor. While such a system looks good on paper in a 1v1 situation, nations have 3 defensive slots and hence we really need to look at a 3v1 situation, sometimes at 9v1 situations even. The biggest reason for the failure is that to oppose an invading force, the defender needs to attack the aggressor as well in which case the causality nerf applies to the defender. Plus, having already lost units in the opening hits by the aggressor, the defender is effectively already fighting an up-hill battle. The topic of this forum post however is not to criticize past decision - it is to provide a solution and maybe influence any future ones. Potential Solutions: Ending all wars in beige: This has been one of the most suggested changes to fight back against dogpiles. Dogpiles always rely on two things-Manpower and Beige Cycling. Ending all wars in beige makes Beige Cycling extremely difficult. Even at the current rate of 2 days of beige, at worst, the person on the losing side of a war would be able to get into a situation where he is being sat on by a single player alone and has upto 4 days of beige. Double Buys and coordination by the losing side could easily subdue this single person sitting on a zeroed person, letting them build up to at least some days of military buys and rejoining the battle against the enemy. Moreover, since both beiging and expiring the war would result in beige, players would be more inclined to beige their wars for the loot and infra damage than to just sit around and let a war expire. Ending all wars in beige do have some abusable points like where pirates could use this to get beiged before raiding new targets or slotfilling being hard to detect because the person is doing attacks. But such abuses would be easy to notice and punish. To make getting beiged by expired wars punitive for the defender, the target would lost 4% of their infrastructure as they would in case of being defeated. To make it punitive for the aggressor, a war beiged due to expiry will not give any beige loot to the aggressor. This would also stop abuses by pirates who might attack an inactive player, do a single attack to get their resistance below 100 and then expire the war without doing any more attacks but looting the target. Increasing Resistance Loss due to attacks: A second way to stop sitting would be to increase resistance loss due to attacks. Currently, the least number of attacks needed to beige a person 8 attacks. This implies that if you are attacked, the attacker would be able to do 8 battles against you and you will lose units 8 times. Now, if say the number of battles a person could do to you was reduced to 5. You would in theory lose 37.5% less units. The attackers would have to attack you more to zero you. This makes it more likely for the attacker to beige you and give you time to rebuild. This plus the lower causalities to defender would mean it is harder to zero a nation out without beiging them and giving them time to rebuild. The proposal hence is that the resistance lost per attack be increased. A new resistance table would need to be drawn up for this. However, that is something a person good with numbers should do and not me. The theory is if more resistance is lost, sitting would be harder and beige time would help people recover. It is also possible that the players would enter beige with some military leftover. Decreasing defensive slots: This might be a controversial suggestion and might not be liked by all. However, a 2 defensive slot system could immensely help a smaller side. In a war with say an opponent 10 times larger than you own, the odds would always be 3v1 since that is the maximum number of defensive slots you have. Any person other than these 3 would just be sitting out there waiting for their turn. However, 3 people attacking 1 person might actually be overkill. A 2v1 might be more manageable. Not only this, since 2 people would kill less units, it might be more difficult to sit as well. Plus, upon getting beiged, it is possible the defender would still have a part of their military leftover. As to why this would be a bad thing to do, this would make the whales in the game extremely powerful, especially since it would be very hard to drag their military down and inflict much damage on them. Increasing daily buy limits: Another way to let dogpiled nations fight back is to increase daily buy limits for nations. Being able to buy more military daily(say 25%-33%) of your military daily would allow nations to easily fight back their aggressors, even if they have more military. Even though these attacks would probably be suicide attacks, a well-coordinated team attack could easily help beat down or even zero the aggressors in such situations. The downside to this is that since the aggressor too can buy more military, it might become more of a stalemate war with the winner being decided by whoever has a larger bank or more willpower to keep fighting. To implement this however, causalities would need to be increased to make it worthwhile to fight and double buy against the aggressors. Different kill rates depending on whether you are the aggressor or the defender: I opened with how reducing causalities to make wars even didn't exactly work out the way it was intended to. This is a patch to that change. Basically, depending on whether you are the aggressor or the defender, your causality rates would differ. If you are the aggressor, you would lose more units and kill less units in offensive wars compared to what the defender would. That is to say, if you lose 100 soldiers and 10 tanks and kill 200 soldiers and 30 tanks in an offensive ground battle as an aggressor, the defender would lose 50 soldiers and 5 tanks while killing 300 soldiers and 50 tanks in an offensive ground battle as the defender(the numbers are just examples). The difference in numbers signifies the "Home Advantage" of the defender. This could make chipping at the aggressor by defenders more worthwhile than they are now and give a better way to fight back.

  33. Let's face it, the dark mode for PnW is a great attempt, but there is no way to use it for colorblind people. The official game version is light mode and its ok. It's hard to believe that after all these years, nothing has been done to add accessibility options to this game. Dark mode is great, except the links stay dark blue, so there is no contrast and its not usable. Light mode is ok, but the last active dots are small and very similar in color. Not enough contrast in colors. Many links are also hard to see. Please follow the example of many other games and make this game accessible to colorblind / visually impaired people!!!
