  1. We knew this was coming sooner or later. It happened to others who left the coalition, it was always going to happen to us. The narrative of only hitting people who leave and act against them really doesn't fit anymore. But I'd rather be here, in this position, running on empty and taking a beating than be associated with that kind of conduct. I can think of little more toxic. Anyone on Orbis who isn't in Coalition B and thinks they're safe from this; you have my pity.

  2. Recently we made a request in The Knight Radiant for our members to write down some happy and joyful stories for the upcoming Halloween. I am glad to present you with the top stories both from very short and story groups. This is our way to wish all of you happy terrifying Halloween! Before moving onward I just kindly ask you to remember that all stories in the world fall into two categories: those which have truly happened and those which have not happened.... yet. Written by @Mitsuru Ichiro woke up. He was tired as it was the fourth night in a row that his boss had demanded he work overtime until he was barely able to catch the last train. He felt exhausted and wanted nothing but to get out of his sweaty clothes and go to bed. The train arrived at his station and he got off. As usual, he was the only one at this hour. The town he lived in was far away from the city but Ichiro couldn't rent anything closer to his workplace without selling his parents' house. But as he walked with his umbrella through the pouring rain, he once again realized why this wouldn't be so easy. Nobody wanted to live here anymore. Buildings had been abandoned after their owners had died and their children had left the town after high school. As he was lost in his thoughts, Ichiro suddenly came to a stop. He had heard a splash behind him as if someone had stepped into a puddle. But when he turned around, nobody was to be seen. He continued walking down the road. Suddenly he heard the splashing noise again. A frog? But would a frog be this loud? As he walked on, the noise returned. Terrible thoughts started to fill Ichiro's mind. Was someone following him? Maybe a thief? But this wasn't an wealthy area. When he decided to stop again, so did the splashing noise. He hesitantly turned around but saw nobody. In the distance, maybe fifty meters behind him down the road, he saw something laying on the ground. But since the light of the street lamps didn't capture it, he couldn't make out what it was. Ichiro took a deep breath. "You're tired", he said to calm himself down. He started to walk again but this time he took faster steps. To Ichiro's horror though, the splashing noise returned. Now he was sure. Someone was following him and they were walking faster now to keep up with him. Ichiro started running. Terror filled his thoughts. He looked for lights in any of the houses but everything was dark. He threw away his umbrella and the rain started to soak his clothes when he suddenly slipped and ran against a street lamp. Numb from pain he came to a halt. Fear and pain filled Ichiro's head. Although he had stopped walking, the splashing noise hadn't. And it came closer. Terrified, Ichiro slowly turned around one last time. What he first thought was an animal soon shocked him so much that his whole body was paralyzed in fear. On the ground was a woman with long, dark hair. Her body was cut in half as if someone had sliced her through and only the torso with her head and arms remained. The woman was crawling towards him on her arms as he stared in terror. She lifted her head and smiled at him with a cruel smile, blood dripping from her mouth. Just as Ichiro thought about screaming or running away, she jumped towards him. Written by @Kebsla I enjoy walking in the woods getting paid to do it is the icing on the cake, today the same as every day i've found me a comfy place to sit and have my dinner. A primal instinct in most people would make them fear this spot surrounded by dense ferns and coniferous trees i'm unable to see anything within or beyond the foliage sitting on this rotting log , but it doesn't matter its not like other parts of the world where you have to worry about Lions, Tigers and Bears , here in the Woods at the heart of the UK we only have to worry about bumping into a Stag or in more recent times a family of Wild Boar , sure there are Adders in the undergrowth but i doubt one of them could sink its fangs through my boots. I sit eating my sandwich and i am ironically thinking about what i am going to eat tonight , maybe i'll have a takeaway i fancy something from the chinese , erm... but what to have? *SNAP! The sound of a branch breaking disrupts my thoughts *SNAP! That was loud it sounds like its further away this time , i wonder what it was must be some animal wandering through the woods , i finish my sandwich wash it down with a flask of tea then go to investigate. Its getting dark but i know my way back to the road where my van waits , and anyway i'm certain i've found the branches that broke though they are not on the ground but still semi attached to the trees. *OINK! That must be a Boar i've never actually seen one it sounds so close, i need to keep going... I turn the corner and there's no footing "SHIT!" i shout out has i tumble down the slope "oof , ahh" *CRACK! I lift my head off of a rock, its pitch black how long was i out for? Gonna have to use my torch. *OINK! That boar must be right by me, i shine my torch towards the sound nothing there but trees, wait a second what's that?.... *Grunting sounds From behind the tree came a three digit hand and a couple of feet above that a huge tusked pale head, it turned and looked towards me , fear overwhelmed me i need to run... *REEEE! I grasped my way up the slope *SQUEE! Flat ground start running *REEEE! Straight into thick mud i'm stuck i need to get out! *Loud Grunts It's getting closer lose the boots... run! run! run! * CRACK! I tripped on a branch i need to get up its behind me i need to get up , keep running! *REEEE! There's the road , There's my van! My keys, need to find my keys , shit shit shit , YES! Found them , get in get in get in... Lock the doors! My hearts racing i'm safe , relieved i shut my eyes... I open them... Wait i'm on the ground this is where i tripped down the slope, all a dream thankyou... wait i can feel the ground with my feet what happened to my boots ... oh no... *Grunting above I feel moist warm air on the back of my neck , and a wet glob falls on the back of my head making its way over my cheek. I'm scared to look, i can't look, i start crying. I shut my eyes... Written by @Micchan It was evening, the school yard was full, all the inhabitants of the town had been reunited by the mayor due to an emergency, many citizens had been attacked by crazy dogs in the past few days, many victims, a virus they said "We must act immediately and exterminate all the dogs in the village before the virus spreads", heated discussions for hours between those who wanted to protect the animals and those who didn't want to take risks, Max listened to everything but he wouldn't hurt a fly so that evening he went to home and after eating something went to sleep That night he woke up, he was thirsty, while he was drinking he began to think, I like them but the situation is serious, if the situation were to degenerate it could be either them or me, he kept thinking and as time passed he became more and more convinced , there is no solution, everyone must be killed Max went out into the street and walked in the dark, "ok, now I'm going for a walk, I'm not going to look for them but if I were to meet one who attacks me I will not hesitate to kill him" Less than ten minutes later he saw one, seemed to be going his own way and was not aggressive, Max decided to come closer but when he was very close he realized, it was not friendly at all, "we are too close, I have to act, he or me" Max acted first, took him by the neck, squeeze squeeze, "I can't let you go or you will kill me", "you have to die now", after a few minutes he wasn't breathing anymore, Max won and he was pervaded by a strange feeling, it was the first time he killed anyone and he liked it, stood there watching the corpse for several minutes, pleased Max woke up from his violent thoughts to the screams of a woman, "no let him go, noooooo", others scream from the house next door, he hadn't realized how the situation around him had fallen in an instant, in front of him four eyes shone in the dark, they were approaching, they wanted him, Max understood that he had to run and run as fast as possible but the eyes were getting closer, they were faster than him, there was a corpse on the roadside in a lake of blood, he had to act immediately, he threw himself into the woods and ran all night until he collapsed to the ground exhausted, in the morning he awoke in a field, he had survived and so he went to the neighboring city in search of help This was the story of how Max survived that night, the only survivor of his town, his life lasted another two months before he died in a city far away, the virus had spread, mutated, infected many animal species, and finally even the humans, it was the end of civilization This was the story of Max, the dog that spread the virus who ended everything Noteworthy scary shorts: 1st prize by @redfive Blackie takes over as the leader of TKR. 3. Now, before this post begins, I am not an NPO slave. I was just beaten invited by Roquentin to post this idea. Trust me... Anyway, here's the basics of the suggestion. It's really, really simple. Alliance Taxes Now, I like a good quality of life update. I also like it when Alex changes the game a bit (I can't wait for the upcoming projects), but the fact that this hasn't happened yet, astonishes me. The basics of the idea, is that an alliance has the option (it can be forced, idrm) to do the upkeep for each nation in it's book. I'm talking about the $ upkeep and the resource upkeep. So, if my nation uses 700 bauxite a day, then, under 100/100 taxes, it would take 700 bauxite a day from my alliance to keep my nation running. And if my nation (still under 100/100) used 4 million dollars a day, then my alliance would have 4 million dollars taken from it daily. And the usage from the alliance bank is equal to the taxes. So, if I'm under 10% taxes, it would be 70 bauxite a day. Alright, that's the basics of it. If you want to add to this suggestion, feel free to comment. I want to know everyone's opinion on this, and I want to know how everyone would change it.

  6. Maybe you can speak for BK/NPO, but I don't think you really speak for KETOG. ------- On topic: The reason why peace hasn't been achieved in any manner is because there's multiple reasons as to why the war still exists. It's not just a matter of pride, but that is one of many factors. It'd be absolutely stupid to give in, as it'd simply cement the power base of IQ 2.0 when they're the cause of the war the begin with. Simply look at them consistently dragging more alliances in (Even going so far to continue hitting previous allies, such as OWR and Carthago now). Is that what you want? To pretty much give up to that? Older vets can say whatever about Syndisphere back in the day and our dominance then, but we never pulled that shit (Other than Mensa bullying Vanguard, but even those that surrendered/white peaced out were never dragged back into the same war). Let's put it this way. There's quite a few of you rumor mongering around saying, "Just surrender and rebuild, then go back at it again". What you're forgetting is that 'rebuilding' gives them time to consolidate their new numbers (Just look at GPWC and GOONS adding into this). Their current allies wouldn't give up their spot riding on the coattails, because they'd risk being put through the traumatic experience of getting their asses handed to them again. So you got IQ 2.0 + GPWC + GOONS + whoever else cowers to them. >"But we got top tier advantage if we rebuild!" You won't for very long. And it wasn't that much of an advantage when some of the upper tier nations simply sat on their ass and not attempt to even dive down to make use of their higher city counts, or even attempted to fight when they got attacked. If you're not willing to fight a war, don't count yourself as part of an advantage. Leave the war decisions to vets, or go hide off into some obscure place and build up pixels. Don't get me wrong though, there are some upper tier nations still making use of their city count with their raids. Those are the real MVPs. >"The war is boring though" That is literally the only way to lose. You cannot be pinned down. It's easy and cheap to rebuild. The only way to actually lose is by being bored of the game and the war itself. Congrats, you as a player, lost. And if you're one of those players, congratulations again - you've just contributed to regressing the game back into stagnation. If you think there will be big changes in the game after the war, well, you won't be wrong on that simple line of thinking - but you'll be wrong in what you want to happen. >"There's no reason why we're fighting" There's very clearly a huge reason to fight. Just go dig through the Alliance section of the boards and look at the initial DoWs, or hell, the big leak that came from TCW. If NPO/BKsphere were willing to plot together to roll the two smaller spheres - what makes you think that wouldn't happen again? It's already been verified that NPO/BK won't fight each other, so who else would they go after once their membership base got bored and wanted a fight? This isn't a matter of Roq claiming that it's in NPO's best interests to join in due to some fear of a MegaTKRsphere, it's their fear of losing BK as an ally despite severing that MDP tie. Which is dumb, considering how alliances in KETOG and Chaos have fought each other more times than NPO/BK has been in any kind of conflict within the past few years (Or even supported them too in Knightfall). >"But I don't like to fight" Why are you playing then? Just hop in VM and contribute to the forums. This is almost as bad as the players who whined about Baseball being their life. >"I don't know how to fight/raid" Talk to your local pirate or milcom player. Every alliance has them. >"I just need a break" Take a break. There will be plenty of targets and plenty of rebuild opportunities when you get back.

  9. or even better, Alex could create a project that would be needed to have this feature. It would cost 100k of each resource to unlock this stockpile contraption, and act as a drain on resources. It could also be the solution to nerfing planes. When bombing a nation with this project, planes take 50% more damage.

  11. The ability to use up city improvements slots with stuff like airports, hotels and national landmarks would really make the game more realistic for example this could lead to you being able to make money from this I do have a few ideas for the cost of these new buildings Airport (regional) - 250,000 cash and 100 steel Airport (international) 500,000 cash and 250 steel Hotel - 150,000 and 50 steel This could add to commerce or a new tourism rating which could be introduced

  12. I'm very much not excited for a project that buffs alliances with loads of members for having those members. Member count is already an advantage by itself, I don't see how this can have a positive effect on game balance.

  13. While I believe most of the community appreciates the new "hotkey" link to the wars page from the new mobile navbar, I can't really wrap my head around dislodging resource bar from there. It's supposedly one click away, but the resource dropdown table does not even work half the time, ironically on pages most relevant for resources (trade, wars). Very often you need to check on your resources. Making a trade offer? You need the direct information of how much you have. Calculating gasoline/munitions reserves and how many airstrikes you have left. And so forth. And then you hit this dropdown and it does not even work, so you need to go to another page, refresh it, *then* see your resources, head back to the relevant page.. and so forth. Frankly I don't think any mobile user of PnW cares about how much is some feature aesthetical or not, as long as it's useful and serves its purpose. So here are my alternative suggestions, along with some other slight navbar changes that I believe would improve QoL for mobile users. Variant 1* *The resource navbar has NOT been scaled in this example. Theoretically it would look the same as it were before the navbar changes. Variant 2 I've also included a poll but I have no idea if I've managed to set it up properly. Nonetheless, please share your thoughts! *For reference, this is how the current navbar looks like.

  15. taxes, Taxes, TAXES, TAXES Hello! Nice seeing you looking at this. Going away from all the huge game changer suggestions I've been seeing the past few weeks, this suggestion is more of a minor edit that can help (or not) those who wish to use it. It's very simple and I'm not sure anyone has suggested it before, but here's my pitch: -> Split up the resource tax rate instead of having it put collectively This idea is based on the fact, that perhaps someone can utilise it to micromanage a specific resource, or customise an alliance economy further. To all those who don't understand, basically, when creating an tax bracket you'll have the option of selecting an individual resource, instead of all of it collectively. So for example: You make the general resource tax 0% but create another individual rate for coal being 100%, this would tax only coal and nothing else. I'm not sure how it would be formatted within the game to keep it as easy and simple to use as can be, but I'm sure if this is ever implemented (Or not) someone will figure something out. Really this is just a simple suggestion of an edit, that maybe someone can use. Thank you! Nice seeing more tax suggestions

  27. For many years now people have wanted a change regarding planes being "OP". What makes planes the strongest unit is that they are the only unit that can attack other unit archetypes (ground/navy). Not only are they able to attack other units, if they have no air units standing against them, they kill units without suffering any losses. To address this, either planes need to only be able to attack planes, unit wise, or ground and navy need to be allowed to attack other units archetypes as well. OPTION 1 Planes can only attack planes. They lose the ability to target ground units and naval units. OPTION 2 All units can attack all other units. Ground can attack air and navy. Air can attack ground and navy. Navy can attack ground and air. If this option is selected then discussions can be made after regarding if damage rates are equal between the types, or if there is a rock paper scissors style such as Air is strong against ground but weak against navy. Navy is strong against air but weak against ground. Ground would then be strong against Navy but weak against air. Or however it plays out. OPTION 3 All units can attack ONE additional unit type beyond their own. For example, Ground can attack ground and air, but not navy. Navy can attack navy and ground, but not air. Air can attack air and navy, but not ground. Again, how the actual attack orders are will be up for discussions should this option get chosen. In addition there can be strengths here as well, units attacking outside their archetype might not be as efficient, or something of that sort. This thread is NOT for stating that "no change should happen". If there were a change, which of these options would you pick. This thread is NOT for politics. One unit type can attack all others, that gives that unit type an advantage, this is looking at ways to level that advantage. This thread is NOT for suggesting new unit types or projects that impact military units. Keep it civil.

  31. It's not an out-of-character problem, and therefore doesn't need to be regulated in an out-of-character fashion. If it's an in-character problem for you or anyone else, that's fine, but don't come to the suggestions forum looking for solutions to it. Regulating player associations is never going to work. Alliance membership and alliance treaties are the two most obvious ways this is semi-frequently suggested, and both have painfully obvious workarounds that are trivial or near-trivial to implement. We also shouldn't want these regulations, regardless of their efficacy. Unless an alliance is obviously sucking players into inactivity (particularly mismanaged or inactive micros are the only groups I can think of that would fit this description) then alliance size should purely be a matter of player choice. What you and the others are implicitly arguing is that the ideal alliance size is somewhere under 300 members (more specifically, it seems to be 50-100 members). Not only is there not a coherent, non-political reason for this preference (I don't see this suggestion as "persecuting NPO" so much as I see it as undue preferential treatment given to incumbent 50-100 member alliances), but there are good reasons to prefer larger alliance sizes. Larger groups tend to sustain themselves better than smaller ones because they have the resources and knowledge to invest in long-term player and community development. When you gaze long into the abyss, the abyss gazes also into you. Most of GPWC isn't "active" in a meaningful sense (there aren't anywhere near 1000+ people actively building nations, let alone raiding or fighting wars), so you're leaving out some important details as well. But more to the point, so what? I mentioned above that this isn't an OOC problem and that there are probably more and better OOC reasons to prefer larger alliances to smaller ones. I didn't say it was lazy or ridiculous for others to fail to replicate GPWC; I said it was lazy and ridiculous for them to frame large alliances as threats to game health, especially if they omit important details in their arguments. Even on its own terms, all that argument amounts to is a failure to adapt to a perceived threat. In other words, if you think it's somehow unfair for a sub-100 member alliance to coexist with alliances several times its size, then the onus to change and innovate is on that alliance's members, not the game's developers. That would be great. CN hit peak membership after it made international news, and I'd be very excited if PW managed to do the same.

  32. Awesome story. Well, the issue was you saw it as an all in or all out thing. I hope at some point you can come back to help Sandman and others out, but don't totally unplug if you can help it. Like I'm kind of an extreme opposite but you can always try to check in on your phone or something if you come back. It's not something you have to sit around for hours for. I know for most people it's just too much of a hassle if they have stuff going on to just pop in a few times a day, but if you're invested in what the other guys are doing, you should do that instead of quitting and joining back. Hope your father and family are in good health from now on.

  34. NPO has far more room to talk about “unfavorable circumstances” and how it would respond to them than almost any other group here, and our answer, historically, has been to cope, persevere and find a solution, however incomplete or imperfect. I have no doubt whatsoever that our response to a rival invasion alliance would fit that description. We don’t criticize others for expanding the player base because we think it’s an inherently positive thing. Other than cheaters and rule-breakers, new players are categorically good. If you can’t understand it in those terms, then the problem is you, not them. NPO had 1000+ members in 2006-07, many if not most of whom (especially the leadership) were from NationStates. GOONS had 1000 members at its peak in CN, and its entire identity was as an offshoot of the Something Awful community. It’s possible there are other groups that meet the 1k member criterion I’ve forgotten about, but my point is that it’s definitely happened before. It’s neither lazy nor ridiculous to worry about rival groups or to start in-character fights over their presence, but it is both lazy and ridiculous to frame them as a threat to the health of the game.

  35. I added some "paragraphs" to make it look better. It's honestly worth the read if you haven't read it. I tried to put the paragraphs where it seemed to fit, I probably messed up on the positioning in a few places. I'd suggest reading it, it's a nice read, and a better story. On a side note to Sol, what happened to you and your alliance, sadly, isn't too uncommon. There's been plenty of alliances that have had leaders take time off, and die while they were away. It's something no alliance leader wants, but it's the "curse" of this game when you're busy. It honestly sucks. But, I hope that in the future you can create another alliance, have good friends, and work on it as a group. I can't wait to see how your story unfolds.
    1 point
  36. That's not how alliances work, where everyone's jockeying for government and "internal tension." But keep trying to push that pipe dream because you don't want to get out there and recruit. I don't care if folks bring in larger invasion communities or wherever these communities come from, as long as the game can grow and the politics changes accordingly. In fact I'd urge you to try and bring in more players to the game. At the end of the day, if your answer to your lack of interest in expanding the game, is to punish others who do so, says a lot about you and what you want from this game. I'd urge you to look at positive ways to improve the game, rather than trying to actively break apart communities.
    1 point
  37. Doesn't solve any problem apart from targeting successful communities, thereby reducing buy-in to the game. Whatever potential diversity is up to themselves and should never be imposed by folks for shits and giggles. It literally is persecuting folks for being good at recruiting for no other reason than your own lack of it. I have no idea why anyone would want to kill communities who play this game because they may not have the strength to recruit as well tbh, its a terrible idea and that'll kill player retention faster than most other things.
    1 point
  38. It's a terrible thing. Invasion communities are the best means to expand the game and while the numbers maybe high for a while, you get an active different set of political bunch that changes stuff. Mind you, most of the older alliances you find here, are invasion themed from different worlds at different points and have been drivers of the politics for the last few years. New ones help replace that with newer stuff.
    1 point
  39. Oh look another politically motivated suggestion. Realistically limiting member count is restricting game growth. You are limiting invasion communities from coming here. So it's a solid no from me.
    1 point
  40. Sure, but then they're adding a lot of potential targets to loot their alliance bank as well. But really, what do you want me to do? There's not really a good way to force people to play the game a certain way or else (be banned? Idk.) I find it pretty unlikely that that many people are willing to just blindly follow orders and completely not play the game just to benefit someone else. Surely a number of those players will actually start playing and do their own thing, and a number of them will just go inactive and stop checking in.
    1 point
  41. Inactive (gray) nations don't get taxed. There's really no benefit to keeping around inactive nations in an alliance.
    1 point
  42. I don't really see a reason to cap alliance sizes. As was stated, all that would happen is a confusing mess of "Alliance Name 1" "Alliance Name 2" that are all allied together. To be a meaningful change, we'd also have to require some limit to the number of nations that can all be allied together through alliances and treaties, but that isn't really possible to enforce.

  43. I think it's a cool concept to be able to customize your military more, however I think there is actually quite a bit of room to improve this though. Firstly I think it's clear that some of these perks are better than others which I think isn't ideal, it will cause people to mostly pick the same stuff. Having equally good perks will cause a greater variety of viable builds. 2 of the obvious picks are Armored Panels on planes and Anti-Air guns for ships, they have their downside of increased cost but are essentially necessary for dominance in the game. Another strong one is the Advanced Chassis for tanks which is a straight up cost-reduction with no downside other than it uses a perk-slot. On the other hand there is some to me sorta unattractive ones such as the soldier perks. Soldiers are basically free atm so adding an actual cost with these perks seems unattractive to me, especially since they will force you to pick them with gas mask in a set, since you dont wanna have half of them blown up by missiles if they get an actual cost to them. The soldier perks are basically not a consideration if you are in a position where your soldiers die frequently, while they are kinda alright if you have plane control in which case your soldiers may survive, but then they just aren't as good as the plane perks. I think some perks that keep soldiers as a suicide unit would be more attractive, for example increased recruitment rate or more loot or something. Then by direct comparison some of these are oddly balanced with each other, take for example in the case of tanks Flamethrowers and Radio Comms. Radio Comms cost only 0.05 alu extra while Flamethrowers cost an extra 0.5 gas which is way more, while i dont think the Flamethrowers stand out clearly as being better. Then secondly to balancing them among each other there is balancing questions about who benefits from this stuff more than others. I already addressed soldier perks. Basically bad if your soldiers die and alright if they can survive, but that also means you are buffing someone with the perks who is already dominant, which is questionable? Then anti-air guns are the most controversial i think. This one will be an absolute killer for whales and not as good for the ones at the lower score side of things. Basically ships add score which is problematic if you are worried about downdeclares, but not an issue if you aren't worried about it. So for anyone low score getting ships this will buff their defense but also put them in downdeclare range of people with more planes, additionally when you consider this perk makes a ship equal to 2 planes but gives 4 times the amount of score a plane does then perhaps this isnt that great as a defense. On the other hand it makes whales a lot harder to take down as ships only act as aircraft in defense so someone with 2000 planes updeclaring on someone with 2500 planes and 300 ships will basically face 3100 effective planes instead in their offensive attacks. I'm not necessarily saying this is bad, perhaps whale-takedowns are a bit too easy atm and this is actually positive for the game, but it's something that needs to actually be given thought before this stuff is put into the game. About missiles: EMP warheads will be stupidly op at the zero tier. Someone shooting a missile at a 3 city nation will straight up disable a third of their cities. On the other hand chemical weapons will be better on the high tier than at the lower.
