  1. All the other alliances we tried to join were to good and straight, so being the flaming home-of-sectionals we were, we founded our own really bad micro; Que3f on Me Daddy Fear us... or something. Or don't. We'll probably just get rolled and disband in 4 months. Gov lineup: Grand Wizard: MinesomeMC Not so Grand Wizard: San Fortunado Sneezing Unicorn (IA): Epi; Shifty The Dutch Oven Gang (FA): Cobber; Thalmor Chinese Firecrackers (MA): Kitschie; This Fckn Guy The Juice (EA): TheRebelMan, Simmons We are protected by GPC and Pantheon. We're also protecting BK and NPO. Proud member of the Micro Defense Network Oh and we're not going to form until the 15th or so. In fact we probably won't form at all. Wouldn't that be something?

  2. Wow Dio this is what happens when you retire you stop paying attention to all the major players. He is the leader of THE Centre of Offbeat Powers. Just read their alliance page, "We fight for unity, strength, honor but in the end, we're all fighting for 2 things. The fact that we have power that doesn't quite fit anywhere else other than one were unified and the fact that we fight for the almighty bird known as The Pheonix" Now you might be thinking something like "Isn't that five things not two?" But counting is for chumps not major players which you would know if you weren't retired smh. Also before you say it, they incorrectly spelled the name of their avian deity The Phoenix on purpose to keep their enemies guessing. A genius major player move.. Silly silly man.

  4. This idea is effectively just a quality of life improvement. I think the idea of a Color Trade Bloc preventing your nation from being declared on is unintuitive. This proposal is simply to remove the color Beige from the game, and instead add a new separate mechanic for nations to simply be "Protected." It would work exactly the same as Beige (no one can declare war on you, you would lose it if you declared an offensive war, new nations would be marked as "Protected" for 14 days, nations losing a war would get time under "Protected" status.) Benefits to this change would be: More intuitive / easier learning curve for new players New nations can participate in Color Trade Blocs without losing protection Less newbies will accidentally open themselves up to raiding early on Protected status could come with it's own income bonus similar to the existing Color Trade Bloc bonus for Beige. Again, the idea isn't to actually change how the game is played at all, just simplify things and help newbies help themselves.

  5. Funnily enough, despite not even having formed yet, Thalmor is already in peace negotiations with us. Fingers crossed we'll get some phat protection money and exclusive raiding rights on them.

  6. Dont get rid of beige, just make beige a regular color bloc we can choose.

  7. I'd like to first state that I appreciate people coming forward and suggesting things. It means that you're not merely interacting with other players but also actively working towards what you feel would be a better set of mechanics. I like theorizing, and it's always interesting to see how a change will affect certain stratagems. With that out of the way... The main problem I see with the suggestions listed here is that they are one-off purchases that won't scale well at all to the massive boosts that they can provide as the game moves forward. You also have to consider the impact on the game due to the criss-crossing of mechanics, and so on. I'll comment in-depth soon, but here's a few random thoughts. I'm actually not all that opposed to this idea, in-fact, it's a decent idea. The problem lies with the numbers and what they mean to bigger nations. It's 100 people per infrastructure unit. That would be 120 people per infrastructure unit, i.e., a +20 increase. I'll take my city as an example, which only has 1800 infrastructure, nowhere near what people have. This project would get me 36,000 extra citizens per city, i.e., 648,000 nation-wide. That's a significant income boost. Currently, I have 101 pollution in my first city. I've taken the liberty of assuming a 20% nationwide increase to pollution means a 20% increase per city. That's just over 20 points of pollution, which itself is an increase of 1% in disease. I don't need the drydock I have in that city, so I could just as easily buy another hospital. Effectively, that means I'm neutering the effect for a significant increase in income. On one hand, this will address the shortage of cash in the market, but on the other, this will become increasingly ridiculous as you go upwards in terms of infrastructure till it finally reaches a point where it'll begin to taper off. Perhaps a solution to this would be to make costs relevant to the boost itself, i.e., the infrastructure amount you have then. When you add infrastructure, you incur a continual sink as well. We'll have to tinker with the numbers but in my opinion we can work with this project. If I understood this correctly, this would be ridiculously overpowered. If I'm sitting at 30 cities, I could buy this project without blinking and neuter any chances smaller nations would have of ever taking my planes down. Hell, that would apply to similarly tier'ed nations as well. I don't mind the project itself, but it requires significant thought as to how you'll balance it, how you'll scale it and whether it'll have roofs/floors. I'll comment on the other projects later, feel like I might pass out.

  8. The current treaty web lists all treaties(except PIATs and NAPs). The suggestion is to add buttons so that one can turn treaties on and off if they need to. This way, we can turn off certain treaties(like ODPs or Protectorates) to get a clearer picture of who is in which bloc exactly while at the same time we can only view the treaties we want to view.

  16. Why post this at all? Everything done here is voluntary. I know people who haven't donated, that doesn't make them any less of a good person. Offering emotional support is better than this - cut the whole "unbecoming" crap: this isn't the thirteenth century and we aren't living in a society dictated by honour paradigms where having people help you makes you 'less of a man' or whatever. To Biel, I don't have a paypal account, but I will attempt to set one up and forward some when I get the chance. Till then, you're in my thoughts. I sincerely hope things work out.

  17. Pure brainstorming here, I'd like to find a way to make treasures more meaningful in terms of dynamics for the game. Right now their completely random with no real meaning. Sure the bonuses are nice but they don't inspire any sort of politics (they were originally created so people would go to war over them) outside of large alliances buying them off some lucky small guy who randomly got one. Here's my quickly patched together idea: Make it so every month an alliance can "invest" in treasures. Weigh the risk/reward and they can dump X amount of resources or cash or such into a dumpster. That dumpster then spits out a treasure to the alliance on that color for each investment. So if like 3 treasures, a, b, c would spawn on black, as a black sphere alliance you would invest into treasure b, 100M worth of resources to try and get it. This way alliances on the same color would talk to each other and try to wheel and deal on who gets what. It gives some meaning to the mechanic.

  18. Fighting in Nova's Not So Secret War has reminded me how vanilla combat and wars can be in Politics and War. There is a tried and true formula for how to attack. Once an alliance has the upper hand in a war, it becomes very hard for the losing side to regain the initiative or even be competitive. Back in 2015 and 2016, Alex had a few ideas on how to spice up wars and they deserve a second look. First, there was the idea from 2015 for military perks. The concept had 3 perks per unit type, of which you could only select one at a time, which nations could use to specialize their military for a specific fighting style. An example of one of these perks was the Nuclear Powered ships, which was described as "Nuclear Power offers a sustainable energy source for your ships. Nuclear Power eliminates the use of Gasoline by your ships. Upgrading to Nuclear Power will require 10 Uranium per ship in service, and all future ships will cost an additional 10 Uranium when manufactured." Complaints at the time were that most of the perks were offensive in focus. This system is a good idea that will spice up warfare and, if implemented right, could lead to a complex rock-paper-scissors type match ups. The second idea that deserves another look is from 2016. The Black Market was a concept Alex put together where players could buy units off of one another. This helps make wars more dynamic as it potentially could add more value to blockades as well as a potential military perk that involves blockade running. The black market would be a way for nations to buy units to supplement what they could make daily. This helps nations losing a war get back into the fight quickly. This also adds a unique ability to produce raw resources to make units to sell, rather than just selling the resource itself. Feel free to share your own ideas of military perks or ways these systems can be implemented into the game to add diverse tactics and game play. Edit: The perks are already in game https://politicsandwar.com/index.php?id=129 but they need a defensive balance

I’m trying to follow the Swiss model of things. “Commerce is the best weapon.” Let me know if that strat will work out or if it’s stupid and will just get me killed, lol.

  23. Mmm... Not totally agreeing with this. I mean just because your are on the same color block doesn't mean you like the alliances/nations on it. I know some alliances/nations don't want resources being put toward their political enemies benefit. Maybe having nations bidding within an alliance is more beneficial.

  25. Hey guys just wanting to drop a final update! We raised $519 for Charity Water through this PnW donation drive, 100% of that money has been allocated into field work for digging wells and providing clean access to water for third world areas! The email they sent me says over the next 21 months they'll be updating us on the status of the work being done so if anyone's interested in that I can make a new thread but I assume it'll be long time periods between posts. Charity Water has been a great way to raise money from gaming communities in the past for me, I know they'll keep up their great work going into the future. Thank you guys for your support, donations, and help getting this post visibility! And sorry for gravedigging

  28. Aight. So when I saw this, I was thinking, what if Alex adds helicopters and submarines. The helicopters are great at hunting subs and tanks, but are horrible against aircraft, etc. We could also limit how effective airplanes are against tanks. The submarines on the other hand are great at killing ships, but can be easily destroyed by the helicopters. Now, I am not giving any numbers or anything like that, but I think it is an interesting idea to make the war mechanics more intricate.

  37. HiHo. Biel here, this is some of what i said to Alex, excluding my DNI and the picture of myself because i don't know how the community will react (remember that i'm such an idiot/troll in-game, well i don't know how people will treat me after knowing how i am irl). So i come to you as a Diego, the guy behind the mask, behind Biel. I think everything is explained in the pictures, if you want to ask me anything, you can PM me in discord. As i've been telling BK, i really don't like to do a thing like this, literally begging for money, but this time it's an impasse to me. I want to apologize to all Orbis for this.

  43. Part of the reason people don't make threads for every new protectorate is because when you have a lot of protectorates already, announcing a new one opens you up to being criticized. Or maybe because the protectorate is a controversial choice and they might get criticized for that. Or simply because the OWF can be toxic (take your whining for example) so they don't bother. People aren't doing it because they care about keeping the OWF clean and tidy for you. The more threads that are created announcing changes in an alliance's FA the more potential for discussion and conflict which drives this game. I wish more alliances made announcement threads like this
