  1. I was at work today and was having a typical day. My coworkers were all laughing at my witty banter and the women could not stop admiring my muscles as I furiously typed away. I was working hard on making sure The Land of Simple was in tip top shape while my boss was not at his desk. But then one of my colleagues politely asked me “What is that war and politics shit I always see you on?” I eloquently replied “Oh haha… It’s uh… like an online game...” “I think I’ve heard of that,” he said. “No you haven’t,” I assured him. My colleague is a fan of strategy games like Civilization so seeing a chance to bring glory to TKR I suggested he check the game out. He then went and looked up “war and politics” and quickly found the site (great job on the SEO Alex). However, when he saw the main page he simply laughed. This was what the front page looks like: He described it as looking like a “Wikipedia-ass game”. Now, while I think this page is this most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen, I can understand why some may be hesitant to sign up. Alex, recently you made an April Fools joke about updating the game’s UI. Are there any legitimate plans to do this? I believe if the site looked a little less “Wikipedia-ass gameish” the game would be more attractive to potential players. Just an idea. Yours Forever, Smith

  4. Honestly, it was a pretty bad April Fool's joke as the intent comes off as saying you won't make a major change to improve the marketability of the game. The UI and app should super high priority if you want to get more players The whole browser game veterans crutch is something you can't rely on forever. The fact that the article was posted 4 days before April 1st was even worse. So yeah I agree with Smith.

  5. A compromise -- Give alliance leaders the ability to see the embargo list for nations in their alliance. That way they can see if someone isn't following the order to "Embargo Alliance X" and instruct them to do so. Or when an alliance wide embargo is put in place, the member has to click something on a trade or embargo screen to agree to it. "Your alliance wants to embargo alliance X for Y reason(s) do you accept this embargo".

  8. A couple of things. One, raiding isn’t quite the end all to learning how to war, especially if you’re raiding inactives (which usually is the case). There is a lack of suitable targets around the city 10 range, but sub city 8 or so, you have a fairly decent pool of nations to pick from. The scenarios that play out in low tier raids have only a passing resemblance to how a war plays out. Echo’ing Monkey’s word’s here: test server is pretty great for learning how to war. Burnout happens, sure, but you can get your nation up and running at a decent size and kick off military manoeuvres within two or so days of playing there It’s important to note that raiding can familiarise you with base mechanics, and I highly encourage new players in the lower tier to do so, not simply because it’s a passing of knowledge via experience, but because it gets the lower tier to engage. Ideally, you would be getting members to raid till about city 7/8 or so. Once you’ve provided an initial start up package, prospective members should have the ability to make money via resource selling, raiding, and gaming the market. They don’t need to focus on infra so that isn’t really a concern until later stages. Having said that, I can understand why Kata put a ban on raiding (thinking it would cause more headaches than usual, believing it would draw gov’t attention - limited as it was and still is - to things lower on the priority list, etc.), I don’t quite agree with it. These beliefs aren’t as uncommon as being presented above, but it takes a bit of effort at the start. From there on out, provided that you’ve laid down the rules and given some guidance to people, you can pretty easily galvanise the alliance’s lower tier into something resembling a decent, engaged part of the alliance.

  15. Embargoes are an underutilized aspect of P&W, and could become a much impactful area. The solution to this would be to allow alliances to embargo other alliances/individuals. Just as the United States can control if its citizens can trade with Cuba/NK/Iran, alliance leaders should be able to embargo whole other alliances. This would lead to an interesting dynamic and potentially create conflict that could escalate. This would be a new element to trade and create a new political arena with leaders having to balance cutting their own members off from resources, retaliatory trade wars, and the increased tension. This beats the current decentralized nature of embargoes that lacks any real strength.

  18. Thats horribly inefficient and makes embargoes basically unenforceable trying to check 150 peoples embargoes. Members already have sovereignty by being able to vote with their feet, if they dont like the alliance policies they can leave. This is no different than being able to set an alliance tax rate. If thats your solution no one will ever do it and Embargoes will remain a pointless function of the game. Governments already control FA, and embargoes are an extension of FA. This is no different than how it would work in real life. The basis of this games are the alliance not the individual nations. They are citizens of an alliance and the alliance should be able to set "laws" so to speak. In game mechanical enforcement makes life easier and more engaging for the game.

  20. It's no particular hardship to defend Kata's decisions to a group of people who are essentially expressing their vehement disappointment that they're going to have to wait a little longer than they'd hoped to stomp on her current alliance of residence.

You're assuming people competent enough will run lmfao, I'm ex-pantheon and the biggest struggle of the alliance was finding active people who knew what they were doing/willing to listen to advice who want to help out in government/in the alliance. People sit in pantheon and do nothing, majority of the alliance. The majority of the remaining have absolutely no idea how to play the game, the only half competent ones are currently in government. Fist did more than just choose the new leader wrong. He streamlined somebody into his high government econ who's making policies that don't benefit the alliance (i.e. fully stepping away from raiding no matter the city count) and then he chooses this new leader who is unknown, at 5 cities at the time of leader transfer. Who then proceeds to use alliance funds to boost himself to 10 cities and being granted further. The second oldest government member at the time (slightly younger than fist) leaves because he was the workhorse of the alliance, officially the FA high gov but did a lot more than that. Fists choices forced out FA and milcom high gov, IA low gov gets promoted to milcom high gov, ia high gov coups then fails (lmao) and the IA low gov remains as milcom highgov. Does that sound like a stable government that is familiar with their roles? No, and meanwhile the new econ person (after the other econ person who lost their promotion to this new person resigns) is forced through and becomes and 2nd in command without any discussion from the other high gov members. The nail in the coffin is that this is the best option for pantheon unless others step up

  23. I honestly don't see this keeping them as an ally for the next 30 days thing as a big deal. If it's the price to pay for breaking up the sphere-ish gridlock, that's a low cost in my opinion. I've not seen anything indicating that there's plans to keep a secret tie to them in the future which separates this from the recent similar thing with TKR. It's a long standing treaty, while they likely knew the break was coming before the new ties were announced, they still might want some time to get some new allies as the dust settle. A month isn't going to impact anything meaningful unless a major war was to break out. With such a large shake-up across spheres I doubt anyone is going to rush into a war because they're getting their ducks in a row, and rushing to attack a new sphere might just push people back towards old ties for quick support (which would be bad). I think a month hold over on the ties removal is a good thing, honestly. It's like an amicable breakup. If secret ties, and/or this is being used as a smoke screen to launch a war 1 day or so before the 30 day mark, well then that's a little less honorable. But hey, at least it could make things interesting. At least it's not a 6 month NAP

Let's ignore years of history and friendships between our two AAs and just throw them to the wolves after three days, despite the fact that we believe they deserve a solid chance to get there affairs in order (no matter what anyone thinks of there chances), ya? There are actually people who think that way in our alliance, by the way, and I understand your point of view very well but let me lay it out for you: No one tells us how to manage our treaties, and you're likely never going to be close to a position to even influence them, specifically. Pantheon is far (far, far, farrr) from perfect, but that's no reason for us to cave to anybody's opinion of our reasoning. We made a promise to Pantheon, and we will see it through. End of Story. No secret treaties or promises to work together behind the scenes either, 30 days and they are their own responsibility. You may think that is more than they deserve, and that's all well and good but you're gonna have to drool at the fence line until that 720 hours is up regardless so be a good dog, and sit down.

  33. I actually don't view this as a problem, to be honest. It makes it easier for new players, who are already increasingly far behind on city counts when they begin, to catch up to the pack and participate in the global meta where it matters. I bet you'll find that the reason for the lower prices simply comes down to an ever increasing supply (more cities, more infra, more refineries).

  37. You obviously did not, because what you want, is not going to happen. We cant limit how many times 1 person can up ote/downvote a single person. We can limit how many upvotes/downvotes they can use in general, but that isnt going to stop them from downvoting you. A report was made, I decided that a general verbal warning in topic is more warranted than giving everyone, including you, warn points for rule violations. Silence the people who disagree with you and this proposal? I doubt Alex wishes to take down the reputation system and side with you, when you have been in the wrong in this topic as well. With notice, I'm temporarily locking this thread and discuss with the rest of the moderation team. This thread has turned into unnecessary arguments and the original topic isnt being discussed.

  40. As I said in my other post, it is frustrating to those who put time and effort into their posts and genuinely want to know what people's thoughts are. I realize this is falling on deaf ears to those who seem dedicated to "posting shit," which describes you by the way. However, I also said that the feature shouldn't be disabled forum-wide. I'll make an amendment to my original post and say that if the ability for a user to disable upvotes/downvotes for their own post is added, that should only be available in subforums such as National Affairs and any RPing subforums. Having it implemented everywhere would only censor the ability to react to posts such as suggestions, where feedback is critical.

  41. I don't quite agree with your point that those who mass downvote posts are insane. They're just trolls that have no better way to spend their time. If you truly want the reputation system to be altered, you'd have to contact Invision as they're the ones behind the forum software. I'm not sure what customizable options each individual forum has in regards to reputation, if any. An easier solution would be to provide users options in their settings to: Only display upvotes or likes in their Community Reputation score, keep it how it is currently where downvotes count against Community Reputation, or turn off Community Reputation for that individual user. The option to turn off the upvote/downvote feature for one's own posts is another thing to consider. As a personal note, I do believe the reputation system needs to be changed, or expanded upon at the very least. I've seen threads about this subject before that are simply downvoted into oblivion just to further rub salt into the wounds of those who experience mass downvoting. I don't believe the feature should be removed altogether forum-wide. It is frustrating, however, to see trolls mass downvoting a post you've put much time and effort into. I've been curious about this for a while, though, so maybe @Alex or a forum admin would be so kind as to let us see what options the forum has regarding reputation, if any?

I got an amusing email all about stupid people recently, so I figured I'd share it so everyone may be as equally amused as I was by people's stupidity. -------------------------------- Recently, I went to McDonald's and I saw on the menu that you could have an order of 6, 9, or 12 Chicken McNuggets. I asked for a half dozen nuggets. "We don't have a half dozen nuggets," said the teenager at the counter. "You don't?", I replied. "We only have six, nine, or twelve," was the reply. "So I can't order a half dozen nuggets, but I can order six?" "That's right." So I shook my head and ordered six McNuggets. (Unbelievable, but sadly true - must have been the same one I asked for sweetener and she said they didn't have any, only Splenda and sugar.) And they think they are worth $15.00 per hour? -------------------------------- I was checking out at the local Wal-Mart with just a few items and the lady behind me put her things on the belt close to mine. I picked up one of those dividers that they keep by the cash register and placed it between our things so they wouldn't get mixed. After the girl had scanned all of my items, she picked up the divider, looking it all over for the bar code so she could scan it. Not finding the bar code, she said to me, "Do you know how much this is?" I said to her, "I've changed my mind; I don't think I'll buy that today." She said, "OK," and I paid her for the things and left. She had no clue what had just happened, but the lady behind me had a big smirk on her face as I left. -------------------------------- A woman at work was seen putting a credit card into her DVD drive and pulling it out very quickly. When I inquired as to what she was doing, she said she was shopping on the Internet and they kept asking for a credit card number, so she was using the ATM thingy. -------------------------------- I recently saw a distraught young lady weeping beside her car. "Do you need some help?", I asked. She replied, "I knew I should have replaced the battery to this remote door un-locker. Now I can't get into my car. Do you think they (pointing to a distant convenience store) would have a battery to fit this?" "Hmm, I don't know. Do you have an alarm, too?", I asked. "No, just this remote thingy," she answered, handing it and the car keys to me. As I took the key and manually unlocked the door, I replied, "Why don't you drive over there and check about the batteries?   45. Found some error with the game? Good news! You're eligible to receive some sort of reward. The Bug Bounty Program is a system designed to incentivize reporting bugs in the game's code. From typos to very serious exploits, you can be paid cash for reporting it here. Rewards are separated into four tiers, dependent on what the bug is. Tier 1 - Typos/Very Small Bugs - $50,000 Tier 1 bugs are errors in spelling, or other very small, insignificant bugs. Ones that most people wouldn't even notice, and have no bearing on actual gameplay. Tier 2 - Miscellaneous/Non-Major Bugs - $150,000 Tier 2 bugs are more significant bugs in the game that are clearly evident, but have no bearing on actual gameplay. Tier 3 - Significant, but Non-Abuseable Bugs - $500,000 Tier 3 bugs are significant bugs that have an effect on gameplay, but do not have the potential to be abused or exploited. Tier 4 - Major, Abuseable Bugs - $5,000,000 + Immunity Tier 4 bugs are very serious bugs that can be exploited by players. Abusing any game bug is a bannable offense, so reporting a Tier 4 bug offers you immunity from being punished for abusing the bug. Determination of what tier a bug is is up to the discretion of the Administrator that addresses the bug report. Bugs can be reported through private messages as well as in the Tech Support subforum.
