  1. In a world where villains have grown in popularity and strength, the world cried out for heroes. One hero stood up amongst the sea of chaos, and fought to bring justice to all. His name, was All might, and he became the Symbol of Peace. With his passing as a hero, the villains of the world grew emboldened. The world that the Symbol of Peace had built, now faced a danger long since forgotten. To combat this danger, a new organization would be formed, and it would be named the League of Heroes. We hereby announce the creation of an alliance of heroes, henceforth known as, the League of Heroes. The League of Heroes vow to uphold the integrity and resolve befitting that of a hero, to protect and defend its members and allies from unjust assaults, to help it's heroes(old and new) grow over the course of their service, and to build a world that all can call home. 4. ALLIANCE CATEGORIES Alliance of the Year: Black Knights or Knights Templar - hard pick, honestly, between these two. Both were active throughout the year and actually did things. KT fought against BK, NPO, and TKR/Friends blitzes, and still performed well against that adversity - as well as made a drastic move to leave the comfort of the treaty web clusterfrick. Black Knights actually took the initiative for once and hit KT/TKR. Most Powerful Alliance: Before the rolling, I would've said TKR. Then before Partisan left, I'd have said Syndicate. Now? No idea. BK I would lean on now given their sudden activity. Maybe CoS too, if they continue on the path they've taken. Best Military: TKR - Despite the rolling and despite their boneheaded FA moves, they still perform well and maintain activity with the core group of TKR members. Behind TKR, I'd say TGH or KT. Best Rookie Alliance: TGH? I guess? Are we really a rookie alliance? Maybe United Hoods? They were created this year and did stuff, right? Technically CoS since they did a 180 with Ripper in charge. Camelot maybe? Nobody really stands out. Best Flag: Mensa HQ Best War Flag: Mensa HQ Most Active Alliance: KT Most Honourable Alliance: N/A Most Improved Alliance: BK, KT, and CoS deserve to be on this list. Queen M/Sheepy, Felkey being stupid, Lordship not giving a damn about the FA consequences for TKR, negotiations with Nizam, etc. All of which eventually led to the culmination of how they're being treated now. A shame, really. I could rant on about this. 7. As a consequence of the USNE's lavish spending on scientific research, and widespread scientifically-minded public attitudes, discoveries and advances are frequent, and the time from discovery to implementation is short. Recently, research into genetic engineering has begun to pay off. The following breakthroughs were made: The refinement of a viral method, known as adoptive cell transfer, to treat leukaemia and aggressive lymphoma. It involves collecting T-cells from the patient's immune system, and infecting them with a specially designed virus, which reprograms the DNA of the T-cells to target cancer cells. The T-cells are then introduced into the bloodstream, where they will target the cancer cells. Work is being done to see if this treatment can be effectively translated to other types of cancer. The development of a viral method to edit the DNA of a donated organ, so that it will not be rejected by the patient's immune system. Human organs have not yet been edited, but the method has proved successful in tests on mice. An edited pig lung was also successfully transplanted into a terminally ill human, and at least for now, the patient is healthy. The discovery of some genes linked to intelligence. The successful erasure of cystic fibrosis alleles from 94% of recessive allele-carrying human sperm cells in a sample.

  9. From the desk of Uncle Traveling Matt The most handsome Fraggle Greetings Friends!! It feels like it was years ago that we started our journey. Only 100 days ago, we celebrated our 500th nuclear deterrent. Today, with a generous donation by Ryanzilla, we shall build number 600. As we finish phase five of The Fraggle Plan, TFP, we want to thank a few of our friends. El Commander: You've always been there for us. Daddy Critters and Soup: Your desire to buy discounted food from us has helped more than we expected. Zeebrus: Your spirit keeps us going. Ape and Hayley: Your weird relationship keeps us up at night wondering if the Sam and Diane aspect will ever play out. Thrax: You disappoint at times, but I count on that. Others of Orbis: You push us forward with your contempt for a peaceful Nation. Fraggle Rock will continue to be the thorn in your side Phase six will begin soon Many Hugs Uncle Traveling Matt

  10. Sorcha went through the signing and the cameras the best she could, and when it was all finished, she followed the President again, now for some food. It had been almost half a day since they left, and now her stomach was ready for more food. The scottish decorations were warming, although ancient. Most of Scottish culture had been anglicized over the past few hundred years, but she appreciated the attention to detail, even though some were almost medieval in nature. It almost made her feel homely, and she knew the Allied States were going to be friends, through thick and thin, going through all this trouble. "My goodness, President Harris, you've went through a lot for little me and Scotland!"
    1 point
  11. "My pleasure Queen Sorcha," was her reply As they take their seats, and then an unnamed man approaches the table and announces he will announce the terms for the cameras. After they were done, they get up to leave the room to enter the Diner hall, which was decorated in a Scottish fashion

  12. Sorcha agreed, following into the flashes and trying to smile and look presentable. It made her happy, thinking the American people recognized Scotlands need for independence, but she was equally embarrassed. She had just gotten accepted by less than a million people as their Queen, now she had to be a Queen with several million, how does one even start... How does the President know what to do, what to say? The thoughts slowly left as they approached the table, "thank you again, President Harris."

  13. ALLIANCE CATEGORIES Alliance of the Year: Black Knights - BK absorbed two major alliances (Zodiac and Cornerstone), played pivotal roles in both the Ayyslamic Crusade and Knightfall, and became the most powerful alliance (see below). Most Powerful Alliance: Black Knights - NPO was a close second, but BK's more diverse set of treaties (including a promising protectorate in Camelot), along with TKR's fall from grace and The Syndicate's relatively fluid position, gave BK an edge in my book. Best Military: Black Knights - Other alliances arguably have better fighters on average, but no alliance has been more consequential or indispensable to its respective coalitions, especially among alliances that recruit and train new players. Best Rookie Alliance: The Golden Horde - It says rookie alliance, not rookie players. TGH has been by far the most consequential alliance founded in 2018. Best Flag: Best War Flag: Most Active Alliance: Black Knights Most Honourable Alliance: Orange Defense Network - ODN unilaterally continued a losing, defensive war against TGH and KT just to make a point, and it did so without complaint or fanfare. Most Improved Alliance: Best Diplomatic Team: Best Economic System: New Pacific Order - Maximal tax revenues and efficient resource allocation make NPO uniquely capable of developing new nations, building tier cohesion, and safely financing its growth with loans. Best Recruiting Staff: New Pacific Order Best Propaganda Staff: Black Knights Best Alliance Growth: New Pacific Order - GDP grows faster when your citizens aren't allowed luxury goods or bathroom breaks. Best Forums: New Pacific Order - Sleeker and more active than any other alliance's forums by far. Alliance Most Likely to Succeed in 2019: New Pacific Order - Steady growth in membership and score; experienced, stable leadership; and a solid group of allies make NPO a safe bet for this category. Whether or not another alliance will outshine it is another question, but it would take a series of blunders on NPO's part for it to fall very far from its current position. Most Immoral Alliance: Most Controversial Alliance: Best Alliance for New Players: New Pacific Order Most Missed Alliance for 2018: Mensa HQ - No one did arrogant, self-aggrandizing shitposts quite like Mensa. Best Re-started/Re-branded alliance of 2018: Terminus Est - The archetypical paperless alliance and vehicle for Prefontaine's shenanigans. PLAYER CATEGORIES Player of the Year: Leo the Great/The Mad Titan/Thanos - Led BK to alliance of the year (see above). Changed his name twice with as little ridicule as could be expected. Most Powerful Player: Roquentin - NPO is roughly as powerful as BK, but NPO's larger size and unique economic system make Roquentin the most powerful player. Best Alliance Leader: Leo the Great/The Mad Titan/Thanos - Led BK through two mergers and the two most successful wars it's waged since the formation of The Inquisition. Most Controversial Player: Sweet Ronny D - As an advocate for the interests and intrinsic superiority of the whale tier, SRD is unrivaled in his narcissism and contempt for small nations. Most Dynamic Player: Ripper - His leadership has made the Church of Spaceology more than a de facto neutral alliance for the first time I can remember. Best Player Sig: Best Player Avatar: Smith - Although I nominated TheNG for Funniest Player, Smith deserves recognition for hijacking TheNG's avatar and turning it into a meme. Best OOC Poster: Best IC Poster: Roquentin - He's more willing to deliver lengthy, substantive arguments on the forums than anyone else. Nicest Player: Funniest Player: TheNG - The original pigeon. Often imitated, never duplicated. Most Active Player: Roquentin - I'm not sure he sleeps. Player Most Likely to Achieve Greatness in 2019: Seeker - Guardians of the Galaxy has flown under the radar thanks to its spot in the shadows of BK and NPO. It is well within Seeker's power to lead his alliance to a more prominent position in The Inquisition's sphere. Best New Addition to the Community: COMMUNITY CATEGORIES Best Wall of Text: (provide a link) Best P&W Forum Topic: Global War Peace Terms Discussion - Best substantive discussion of gameplay this year. Biggest Controversy: Funniest Event: Extensive vacation mode usage immediately before and after Knightfall began Most Entertaining Discord Channel: #great_job_chat in ORB Weekly - The show and its Discord channel are at times silly, but never dull. Best Treaty Announcement: (provide a link) Best Declaration of War: (provide a link) Biggest Meme: Cultural Victory - Credit where credit is due. Ask Alexio didn't have nearly the lifespan of this one. Largest E-Peen: Best Villain: New Pacific Order - The enemy of dynamism, the root of all that is wrong with nation-sim games in general, and the destroyer of all that is good in PW in particular. Most Hated Poster: Inst - Derailing multiple threads simultaneously takes perseverance and high activity. Inst is the hero we need. Most Missed Player (Player that has gone inactive/quit): Partisan - He was almost synonymous with both The Syndicate and walls of text during his tenures as the leader of t$. WORST CATEGORIES Worst Alliance of the Year: The Fighting Pacifists - TFP underperformed in the Ayyslamic Crusade and managed to both ruin its public image and paint a target on its back by staying out of Knightfall. Worst Military of the Year: The Commonwealth - Despite its strategic use of vacation mode and its clear, totally-not-disputed departure from its GPA origins, TCW still managed to redefine the limits of negative net damage. Worst Diplomatic Move: Bad Company leaking Vanguard/IQ info as it departed Vanguard - BC got rolled hard and fast for that one. Most Inactive Large Alliance: The Fighting Pacifists - They don't seem to do anything besides fighting in Guardian's and Rose's wars, and apparently they don't even do that anymore. Alliance Most Likely to Fail in 2019: The Fighting Pacifists - The only thing worse than sustaining huge amounts of damage in a lopsided war is avoiding the war altogether while worsening the public image problems that precipitated it. TFP enters 2019 with few allies and little of its former reputation (deserved or not) for military competence. Worst Player of the Year: Worst Princess of the Year: Kastor - Kastor was never able to bring the same charisma and decorum to the office that Gorge has. Worst Alliance Leader of the Year: TheNG - Why he asks for this every year is beyond me, but since I attribute the failings of other alliances to multiple people or their alliance cultures, I guess he can have this one again. Worst Treaty of the Year: (provide a link) Worst Forum Poster: Worst Nation Setup: Worst Fighters of the Year: The Commonwealth - TCW's coalition entered Knightfall with strength parity in the upper tiers. Apparently nothing makes an alliance rediscover its GPA roots faster than an even fight. Alliance Most Likely to get Rolled in 2019: The Fighting Pacifists - All of the bad PR from being associated with Radiantsphere, none of the credit for fighting in Knightfall. Lastly, everyone who nominated NPO for Best Economic System is hereby an honorary communist.

  14. Protectorate is the type of treaty agreement. Were not saying they're the protectorate, merely that that's the level. I'll add in the title but to make sure its clear. We will, of course, be prepared to turn over the SCP in order to ensure the Foundation continues preserving the world. It's been great working with Syndicate so far, and we look forward to continueing to do so. To a long friendship o7

  21. ALLIANCE CATEGORIES Alliance of the Year: Knights Templar. There's a night and day difference between KT under it's original founding members, and KT under the leadership fo Theodosius, and subsequently Keegoz. The substantial improvement, alongside it's actions throughout this year doesn't leave a doubt in my mind that they're the alliance of the year. Most Powerful Alliance: Black Knights. TKR would've been up there as well, but at the time of writing, there's little doubt that, due to the ongoing war, alongside other reasons, BK (and NPO) enjoys an edge over TKR which they'll continue to hold for a period after the war as well. Best Military: Knights Templar. Best is quite subjective. However, I consider Knights Templar to be the most capable militarily, especially when speaking relative to their size. Sufficient member count, combined with good membership activity and competence, alongside a milcom that's most likely second to none, means that they're likely to become a pivotal player in any engagement they find themselves in, and can do well above than what a simple glance at their count would otherwise suggest. Best Rookie Alliance: N/A Best Flag: N/A Best War Flag: N/A Most Active Alliance: Knights Templar. Most Honourable Alliance: No one. Everyone's willing to throw honor under the bus for further gains. Most Improved Alliance: Knights Templar. Theodosius and Keegoz improved Knights Templar greatly (thus gaining my main nomination), but the substantial change (for the better) which Church of Spaceology underwent with Ripper taking leadership can't go unnoticed, thus gaining a honorable mention. Best Diplomatic Team: N/A Best Economic System: N/A Best Recruiting Staff: N/A Best Propaganda Staff: Black Knights. Seriously, BK puts more effort into those than anyone else in the game. Best Alliance Growth: N/A Best Forums: Forums are a fragment of the mind we've lost. Alliance Most Likely to Succeed in 2019: Black Knights. This war's outcome will likely leave BK (and NPO) in the best position out of all the combatants. As such, it's no stretch to think that they'll do the best in 2019. Most Immoral Alliance: The Golden Horde. Most Controversial Alliance: The Revolutionary Front. Largely due to the 69 Day War, and the OOC drama. Furthermore, not partaking in the current global in spite of still-then existing ties which either encouraged or necessitated them to join. Best Alliance for New Players: Anyone from the top 10 should be decent enough. Most Missed Alliance for 2018: Imperium of Man. An alliance that did far more than was expected from them, given their size and time span. Orbis needs more of their kind to replae the deadweights that currently saturate the listings. Best Re-started/Re-branded alliance of 2018: Terminus Est. I don't think I need to elaborate on this. PLAYER CATEGORIES Player of the Year: Abbas. Most Powerful Player: N/A. Most Missed Player (Player that has gone inactive/quit): Partisan. The snek and his WoT's and humorous ways will be missed. WORST CATEGORIES Worst Alliance of the Year: The Revolutionary Front. For their actions prior and during the 69 DW/DDR, alongside those related to the ongoing war. Worst Military of the Year: Too many to mention. Basically, anyone who rolled over without offering any meaningful resistance, or those who were in the offensive and got absolutely trashed. Worst Diplomatic Move: TKR and co. declaration of war on KT/TGH. I'd rather list their FA for much of this year (and probably the latter half of the past one too) as a reason for their current situation, but the nomination calls for only one. Most Inactive Large Alliance: N/A Alliance Most Likely to Fail in 2019: The Commonwealth. It needs much reestructuring and culture change to avoid a collapse, IMO. Worst Player of the Year: N/A Worst Princess of the Year: N/A. Worst Alliance Leader of the Year: If former leaders count, Felkey. Much of tCW's current positioning can be attributed to him. Furthermore, VM'ing right before the beginning of a war, even with the reason provided, was just a very poor decision, which both resulted in ridicule externally, and set a poor example internally. 28. Yes. With how imcompitent TKR sphere are in peace talks, this war will go on for a very long time. IQ has never won. They’re happy to drag out grit victory for and exceedingly long amount of time. TKR sphere is banking on them no longer wanting to fight. From everything I’ve seen The war will go on until they realize they simply need to surrender and accept the terms. While they’re might have been wiggle room before, from everything I’ve seen IQs side has unified more with each pathetic peace negotiation attempt made by their representatives. At this point there’s more desire to enforce the terms as presented than there was when they were first made.

  30. I like the idea of having a nuclear meltdown because I think it adds a fun random element to what is normally a boring game outside of war. However, removing an entire city is a bit drastic. A better idea would be to have it make the city go 'inactive' for a few days, where it practically doesn't exist but is back to normal within a few days. @Shiho Nishizumi had the idea to make a nuclear meltdown function like a regular nuke, which I liked. Removing an entire city is to dramatic though.

  31. From 15 cities and above, nations have to pay $100M+ for a new city. With a 25% chance of losing it, I am sure most nations above that level would switch to coal/oil power plants. A nation that is in a proper alliance could get 15 cities within two or three months. So, a nation would have an "advantage" in improvements only for that long. The way the numbers are now, I am sure that the current mechanic will just make all active nations just switch to other power plants, offering no real extra growth advantage to smaller nations. As a theme/mechanic per se, it would be useless but also a little fun. Having things like natural disasters (and player vs game mechanics) is an idea that could spice things up.

  32. In an effort to keep the Directory up-to-date, I've un-pinned the old thread and just posting a link to the directory on the Wiki, which is much easier to keep current. To find a list of all game-related Discord servers (Alliances, Banks, Mini-Games, etc.) please visit the Wiki page here: https://politicsandwar.wikia.com/wiki/Discord_Directory Future changes can be made by updating the Wiki page itself.

  33. Sorcha stepped in enough so that the door could be shut and her soldier could enter. She immediately bowed to the President as soon as she made herself known, "thank you for taking the time to meet with me, President Harris. This is Captain Dunaid, Captain of my personal guard. I hope you'll excuse me, we don't really have a formal government as much as you, that's why my people settled on a single ruler; one head of state. It seemed the fastest way for them to establish legitimacy, so it's just me." She took a couple steps froward while Captain Dunaid stayed by the door, Sorcha meanwhile extended her hand to both of them out of respect. "You've been very generous to me and my people, please do not think for a second I will forget about this generosity, and the great lengths you've went to helping us." She was dressed in something a little different, a little foreign, and probably a little vintage. But she was trying to show her nobility without showing it off. 35. Just for clarification, "trust that we will handle it" wasn't the offer, nor did we ever say that all cases were legit. The offer was that we'd compile our own lists, kick actual war dodgers from the alliance, and let you have your way with them. Having kept track of my own actual war dodgers this war, I know my list is longer than the one your side made, it just doesn't include the two that you did and it doesn't because I don't generally allow war dodgers to stick around long enough to reach that size. This original offer was made when we were under the impression war dodging culture as a whole was what you were after, which doesn't appear to be the case. Hear me out with the rest of this post before you go getting mad at me because I'll explain what I mean more. Also, just for transparency, here's the original counter offer: Coalition A doesn't have access to the same information regarding member reasoning for VMs that we do and so lacks the proper information necessary in order to determine if a member is a legitimate war dodger or not We all have our own methods internally for handling VM/war dodgers and we've been monitoring our own members throughout this conflict. We're willing to compile our own lists of actual war dodgers as determined by us and remove them from the AA After members are removed from the AA, you'll face no intervention on their behalf by their original alliance during the time of this war should you decide to go after them And if you wanted to base war dodging cases off more than just reasoning, we could have discussed that but instead it was outright rejected. A member's reason for entering just the first indicator I personally use when determining if someone's war dodging and the one that hit the hardest for us, knowing what we do about some of our members' reasons for not participating for the entirety of this war (all of our nations have fought to some degree). The two other major ones are my general knowledge of that person and how much effort they put in when they fight historically, which can be shown fairly easily through looking at their nation page and would be an easier, more objective look at it to add in, if that's what you wanted. When I refer to no research being done, I'm referring to historical evidence here. The research done was primarily just people that went into VM during this war and logged on once during this time. There's nothing there that addresses it being a pattern of behavior, which is what changes it from just VM users to war dodgers. I'm not suggesting anything totally insane, you don't even need to be extensive and break out old war stats or anything. Like I said before, it just takes a bit more of a look at their nation page. The unit kills for their age is a good start, for example. There's also already been an established method for identifying them through a prior war, which was even lead by a guy on your side. His criteria, when applied to our alliance, does help you identify who is and isn't a war dodger when applied to our VM users. Yes and no. This is where our confusion lied with making a successive counter term, because, while your term may be technically correct, war dodgers already has a definition within this community and it doesn't signify someone that went into VM one time in one war. I do agree with you that had they said VM users from the start we'd probably have had less of an issue because VM users and war dodgers are different things. People on your side are free to continue yelling at me and claim I'm "elawyering" and it's "semantics" but, as has been shown throughout this thread and throughout literally the last few years on Orbis, there is a difference. Your side's term doesn't address war dodgers. It addresses folks in VM and damage parity/rebuild concerns. And that's fine, if that's what you're after. Let me reiterate something I said in my first post on this thread though. This term itself isn't the reason we stopped talks. The primary reason we stopped is because we felt the other side wasn't willing to negotiate in good faith. You can say "we're the winning side and we don't have to negotiate it good faith" and sure, you don't have to, it's your decision. But that doesn't mean that we're obligated to roll over and just accept that either. So we walked.

  38. Bombardier Denounces The Crimson Entente Bombardier, a peaceful alliance, was attacked by The Crimson Entente. This is simply a retaliation for our victory in the Independence War and an attack on our sovereignty. I say to them, if you want it, Come Get it. We will not hand over our sovereignty to any corrupt alliance, dictator, prince or potentate. We hereby denounces the actions of TCE as they go against our peaceful nature and also contribute to the global conflict.

  39. While on a Afrikan Safari, a traveling Ayylien came across a local villager from the village of Afrika Korps. After befriending many of the other villagers, it was hard for the Ayylien to return to his home planet of the Black Knights, so he bestowed the gift of paper upon them before continuing his journey home. Article 1: Poachers are not okayy In the event that poachers cross into Afrika Korps land, the Black Knight’s Ayylien will return with many friends to destroy the poachers, unless the villagers accidentally invited the evil poachers. The Ayyliens have their own anti-poaching defenses so the villagers are not obligated to assist the Black Knights if poachers cross into their lands. Article 2: The Ayyliens always know Afrika Korps agrees to send any intel pertaining to the security of the Black Knights and/or its allies to the Black Knights immediately. Additionally, the Black Knights will not withhold any information that will directly impact the security of Afrika Korps. Article 3: Payyper is not always good Afrika Korps understand the importance of the gift of paper; therefore, they agree to make sure the Ayyliens are ok with creating more paper if they so choose to do so. Article 4: The Princess Afrika Korps hereby agrees to always recognize Gorge as the only and true princess of “The Golden Horde” and “Bad Company” and will always call him by his title “Princess Gorge” Article 5: Lost Contact If either party wishes to burn the gift of paper in order to start a fire, they may do so by notifying the other with a 71.87 hour notice. 40. I think enough has been said about you cherrypicking. The fact he "thinking about it" shows weakness. Bombardier would never give up sovereignty to any attacker, that shows weakness and he deserved to be annexed. Luckily for him he merged.

  41. I was mulling this idea around for a while, and after seeing Alex's post about a somewhat similar mechanic (at least in its intention), I decided to propose the idea: When bombing/nuking/whatever-ing a city down to 0 infrastructure, that city is "destroyed", and is effectively disabled in terms of production, score, etc. (and maybe all improvements destroyed too. Idk they're not that expensive). Players who have their cities destroyed have to "rebuild" them at a cost of, like, 20% of their most recent city's cost (e.g. a nation with 8 cities has one get destroyed, it costs 20% of ~12m to rebuild, totalling ~2.4m). This accomplishes a few things: 1. Broadens the tactical application of attrition wars by allowing aggressors to effectively cripple a target in a protracted war (reducing the overall production limit by disabling military infrastructure) 2. Makes wars more decisive, as a thoroughly defeated target could be forced to rebuild several cities after a slew of punitive wars (but balanced as their score drops significantly, allowing them to avoid further punishment due to their base score being inflated from their number of cities) 3. Allows nations extra flexibility in deciding their nation score as they can effectively sell/lose cities if they feel they have gotten too big for their own good. Numbers can be fudged but the concept is this: instead of relying on an incredibly rare event to blow up a city at random, give that power to players who are willing to invest the time, energy, and money into trying to obliterate an enemy nation, and, more importantly, give it a tactical purpose beyond griefing.
