Upcoming Elections in The Republic of Flanders
It is the start of the campaign season in Flanders. According to a recent poll conducted by Ghent University, the Flemish people have become much more leftist since the 1997 elections. Support for The Liberal Socialist Party has also increased; therefore, it is almost certain that they will win the plurality of the votes this election. The people of Flanders are really looking forward to this election.
There are seven major political parties. Below are all of the official positions of the seven major parties on a few issues.
Dutch Nationalist Party
Drug legalization:
Cannabis nor hard drugs should be legal
Healthcare:
The government should provide healthcare to every citizen that can prove Dutch or Flemish ancestry.
Official Languages:
Only Dutch should be allowed to be spoken and written in Flanders; no English, French, Indonesian, Arabic, or Punjabi will be allowed.
Same-Sex Marriage:
Only white people will be allowed to marry
Immigration:
No immigrants will be allowed into Flanders
Unions:
Labor unions will be optional, but only for the Dutch and Flemish people
Military service:
There shall be 7 years of compulsory military service
Taxes:
Fair, graduated income tax for those of Dutch and Flemish ancestry, 100% income tax for foreigners (including the English)
Environment:
We should put regulations in place to prevent foreign companies from polluting our country
Conservative Party
Drug legalization:
No cannabis or hard drugs
Healthcare:
People must buy health insurance from private companies
Official Languages:
Dutch and English only
Same-Sex Marriage:
No, It is against the bible and the Catholic church
Immigration:
no immigration, except from England, Netherlands, and Germany. Not from Asia or Africa.
Unions:
no labor unions allowed
Military service:
3 years compulsory
Taxes:
A $10,000 flat tax, abolish income and corporate taxes
Environment:
corporations should be allowed to pollute because that is what they have been doing for ages
Classical Liberal Party
Drug legalization:
every drug should be legal, it is a person's personal choice
Healthcare:
The healthcare system should be completely privatized
Official Languages:
All languages are allowed. The gov't will print documents in as many languages as possible
Same-Sex Marriage:
People should be able to do what they want
Immigration:
People should be allowed to immigrate to our country if they want
Unions:
there will be no labor unions because they will infringe on the rights of corporations.
Military service:
no military service required
Taxes:
no taxes, the gov't will make money through donations
Environment:
there should be no environmental regulations because corporations should be able to do whatever they want
Moderate Party
Drug legalization:
Cannabis should only be legal for medical purposes. Hard drugs should stay illegal
Healthcare:
The state should continue to control the health care system
Official Languages:
Dutch, English, French, and Indonesian will be allowed
Same-Sex Marriage:
It should be legal
Immigration:
Immigration will be allowed, but there will be a quota of 10,000 immigrants per year
Unions:
People can join unions by choice
Military service:
1 year compulsory
Taxes:
Graduated income tax where the highest taxes bracket pays 35%
Environment:
We should try to protect our environment, but it is also important that we don't over-regulate businesses
Liberal Socialist Party
Drug legalization:
Cannabis should be legalized; hard drugs should be decriminalized, and drug users should be offered rehabilitation
Healthcare:
healthcare will be controlled by the government and free for all people
Official Languages:
People can speak and write whatever language they want, and the government will try to print documents in all languages.
Same-Sex Marriage:
It should be legal, same with polygamy and polyamory
Immigration:
Anyone should be allowed to immigrate to our country
Unions:
All workers will automatically become part of a labor union once they get a job
Military service:
no compulsory military service
Taxes:
steeply graduated income tax. People who make 5 million or more per year will pay 70% of their income in taxes
Environment:
We should put regulations in place to stop businesses from polluting our air and water, and from releasing too much CO2. We should try to eventually replace our coal fired power stations with nuclear power stations
Marxist-Leninist Party
Drug legalization:
Only cannabis will be allowed; hard drug users will be arrested
Healthcare:
All healthcare will be provided by the state
Official Languages:
Dutch, English, French, Indonesian, German, Punjabi, Arabic, Bengali, Mandarin
Same-Sex Marriage:
Gay marriage is allowed
Immigration:
All immigration is allowed
Unions:
There will be no need for unions because there will be no private industry
Military service:
There will be 3 years of compulsory military service
Taxes:
All money will go to the government, and it will be distributed equally among the population
Environment:
we should try to protect the environment, but economic development is more important
Green Party
Drug legalization:
Both cannabis and hard drugs should be allowed
Healthcare:
All healthcare will be provided by the state
Official Languages:
All languages should be allowed; no official language
Same-Sex Marriage:
Both same-sex couples and more than two people should be allowed to be married
Immigration:
All immigration is allowed
Unions:
All workers will automatically become part of a labor union once they get a job
Military service:
Military service should not be compulsory
Taxes:
graduated incomes taxes
Environment:
Global Warming and environmental protections are the most important issues of our time. We should replace or get rid of every polluting improvement, and make changes in order to cut our CO2 emissions by two-thirds.
