The history of Cuba is extremely long but interesting and in this post I shall talk about the country we now know as The Republic of Cuba.

Officially Cuba became independent in 1898 after the Spanish-American War however until 1902 was a military occupation of America. In 1902 the Republic of Cuba was founded with many areas leased to American corporations and acted very much like an American puppet including entering WW2, however this all ended in 1953 where a lawyer turned Communist revolutionary,Fidel Castro, founded the 26th of July Movement with the aim to take control of Cuba. However the first attempt failed when the movement tried to seize weapons from a military base. Fidel Castro, Raúl Castro and Che Guevara were exiled in Mexico. From there the remnants of the movement hired a Yacht ,called the Granamo (which is why there's a magazine called that in Cuba), however upon arriving many members were killed and the movement was forced to retreat into the hills where from their base the movement gained international recognition especially as foreign journalists could enter. Bulgenico learnt of this and dispatched an army to take the rebels out, the attack failed and many soldiers deserted and joined the rebels. From here the movement launched a four prong attack with Raúl Castro, Juan Almeida Bosque and Che Guevara led groups to take control of Cuba and Fidel Castro followed up with reinforcements. The rebels were welcomed as heroes and ultimately on the 1st of January victory was declared and Castro took charge resulting in a US embargo of Cuba which continues to this day and the 1962 Cuban missile crisis.

I hope you guys enjoyed this little history lesson on Cuba and if you did leave a suggestion about what Communist (or maybe even non-communist) nation you'd like me to do next. ☭☭

A US embargo on Cuba which continues to this day? Hasn't Cuba and the US opened up relations with each other under Barack Obama?

Well yes but congress won't lift the embargo as far as I'm aware especially as in the UN only the US and Israel want the embargo to continue
